This is so shocking:

This one was written by Genevieve Gluck but yes, I read this last night and the final part really resonated:

As for Rose McGowan. She provided two lessons as to the systemic nature of male power.

She was silenced by an abusive, predatory man and his enablers in the media. They said, “it must never happen again”.

And then, almost immediately, it happened again.

MaudTheInvincible · 11/04/2021 11:10

I've just read Graham's piece. I had no idea. Poor woman. Aside from Rosie, why do the same themes keep arising?

MaudTheInvincible · 11/04/2021 11:11

Rose*, sorry.

BraveBananaBadge · 11/04/2021 12:16

This was hard to read. Even aside from the dubious background of the person who caused the scene, it's just completely unfathomable that someone would want to co-opt and simultaneously negate a person's experience of abuse in such a way. And then Rose is the one forced to apologise? It's disgusting.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/04/2021 12:37

I remember her apology video, it was like a hostage video.

WarriorN · 11/04/2021 12:44

Thank you Genevieve, that can't have been easy to research and it can't be easy to speak out like this.

I'm increasingly thinking Reddit needs to be very carefully watched.

It also worries me the number of mums to teen girls I know of who spend hours on Reddit.

WarriorN · 11/04/2021 12:44

(The girls spend the hours there for clarity!)

Its the common abuse/ coercive control behaviour, DARVO (deny, attack then reverse the victim and offender).

It's also typical male whataboutery.

I think there's also an ongoing, deliberate portrayal of victimhood by TRAs which creates smoke screens. Suicide stats etc.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/04/2021 13:01

Genevieve has done some great research recently into the darker corners of online culture. Have a look at some of her other articles on Graham Linehan's substack channel. And her Twitter @WomenReadWomen

aweegc · 11/04/2021 13:30

Good article by Glinner. I hadn't followed Dier but saw footage of the aggression Rose was attacked with at the book signing. It was really quite..male.

I saw that Blaire White has just done videos on Challenor and James Charles. Good that these names are being brought into a more public domain and information compiled. Many people don't follow for themselves, on here, or via some upside down farmers etc.

Blaire makes the point that when a male predator like Charles (Charles is a feminine presenting gay man according to Blaire, who generally respects gender identities) is feminised then people seem to hang on to the visible "feminine" aspect of the individual and somehow confuse that with the idea that women commit less sex crimes. They then make excuse after excuse for him despite him OPENLY saying he is attracted to and goes after teens. If he was hyper masculine presenting, he'd not get away with it.

Once again, being able to discuss sex, not identity, is critical.

WarriorN · 11/04/2021 13:50

It's Not by Glinner just to clarify.

RoyalCorgi · 11/04/2021 14:13

Sorry, didn't realise it was by Genevieve - congratulations to her for a fine piece of work.

It's absolutely chilling to see what's happening. A raped woman being made to apologise to a sexual abuser. Not in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia but in a modern Western country. And the people compelling her to do it are of the liberal left. Terrifying.

The majority of information has been compiled by women. Its a shame that they get so much less credit for their work.

This - this says it all in a nutshell. Scary times, how do we stand up to this? I apologise for my ignorance, this is even worse than the 70’s when I was regularly groped and leered at because I had a large bust at 13 years old.
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 11/04/2021 14:30

I don't read this as any different to the enabling steps of totalitarianism and the social psychology phenomenon of the importance of compelling people to repeat lies that act against their own self-interest.

When people understand the totalitarianism they have facilitated with their complicit behaviour they will need to double down on their commitment to it in order to be comfortable with any cognitive dissonance.

SmokedDuck · 11/04/2021 14:31

That was very well written.

I had not heard there were issues around James Charles?

I remember when this happened. I'd realised that there were problems for a little while but the sheer scale of abuse online aimed at McGowan along with the condemnation of her by the Women's March was the thing that finally made me realise that we had a serious, serious problem. It was deeply shocking.

SunsetBeetch · 11/04/2021 16:22

The incident at the book store was my "Something is wrong here" moment. The amount of lefty types (many of whom I used to follow on social media) who heaped abuse and blame on Rose, while going off on anyone who misgendered Andi Dier, even after Dier's dubious character was exposed, really opened my eyes.

I also looked into the Woman's March more after that, as they supported Andi Dier, and was disgusted with what I found out about them too.

On the plus side I stopped being so partisan and didn't just accept what I was being told by "the good guys".

Rose has obviously been damaged by what has happened to her, but she remains a badass who calls out hypocrisy and awful behaviour WineFlowers to Rose.

SunsetBeetch · 11/04/2021 16:23

Oh snap, JustTurtles ! I didn't see your post before I wrote my long screed.

stumbledin · 11/04/2021 17:10

hmmmmmmmm - cant think why my criticism of the main stream media would incur a deletion!

All I said was this goes on happening because the MSM covers up ie doesn't report the full story.

And 99.9 times out of 100 this means women, women's voices are erased.

NecessaryScene1 · 11/04/2021 17:16

Weird deletion. Justified by

He's been sexting 16yo boys

The video I saw of Rose at the bookstore was my ‘something is wrong here moment’.

She is a very brave woman.
