Can see another three on this - sorry if duplicating. Was just wondering how others answered the gender question?

I went with other then explained 'I don't ascribe the to social construct of gender I am a women: adult human female'

I drew green and purple “N” and “A” in the two boxes for yes/no, wrote “I DO NOT HAVE ONE” for gender identity, made my own tick box for “no gender identity” under that and annotated around it all that the question is flawed and I reject gender as harmful stereotypes.

OH left it blank. He did put Jedi for religion. I told him that 2001 called and wanted it’s joke back.

Here’s previous discussion too

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4175161-If-you-don-t-have-a-gender-identity-how-to-answer-the-census

I just didn’t feel right ignoring the question and leaving it blank. It felt like complying with exclusion. So I haven’t exactly answered it but have made my position clear. They’ll probably just ignore my “answer” anyway but it’s there for posterity now.

Mimmybirthingparent simultaneously telling people to put what they like in the sex box and complaining about long waiting lists. Confused

And complaining about mumsnet. I won't delude myself that the penny will drop for her when she reads this post.

I think in the end there's no 'right' answer.

I do not identify with a gender. I feel genuinely have no internal gender ID. Nor does DH.

Agender/ genderfree etc if they insist. So we are happily trans (by the genuine definition).

Wishitsnows · 22/03/2021 02:08

I put my sex as female and my gender as female. Should I have ignored the second question? The reason I did not was I didn't want them to think that my gender didn't match my sex as I can't change it. Should I have left it blank to highlight the point?

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 02:11

The gender question is optional.

It's up to you.

You can leave it blank.

If you have a female gender identity then if course putting it as an answer to that question is fine!

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 02:13

People who don't have a gender ID have variously

Left blank
Put in comments at end
Put something in the other gender box

It's up to you!

I wouldn't worry too much though :)

TabbyStar · 22/03/2021 06:12

I left it blank then fed back in the box at the end that I didn't think they were going to get robust data since technicallly I probably should have answered no as I don't have a gender Identity so it doesn't match my sex. I also complained about the confusion about whether as a company director I was employed or self-employed as we seem to be both depending on which bit of policy or practice you look at, meaning we were excluded from Govt covid support, and their chat function was giving people contradictory answers, so all in all the whole thing was quite cathartic!
