Are there any groups that promote Women’s rights

I’m British, and live on the West Coast US. Does anyone know of any groups or organizations that are US based, similar to Rad Fem type groups or LGB Alliance? The pushback from TRAs is huge everywhere, and anyone objecting is labeled a right wing bigot.

Another area I’m interested in is MDA (moms demand action), which is a women led movement for gun safety and regulation. I was disappointed to see that the founder, Shannon Watts is full on TWAW. I continue to volunteer with MDA, but I need to find my people in the US. Appreciate any help.

I think there is an LGB Alliance USA?

Maduixa · 16/03/2021 20:56

There's a US version of LGB Alliance - I don't have any direct experience with them in the US and not sure how closely they're involved with the UK group, but they're here and on Twitter @LGBAlliance_USA.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/03/2021 21:05

Have you checked out WoLF?

www.womensliberationfront.org/

Alicethruthelookingglass · 16/03/2021 21:06

Depends where you are on the west coast. As far as GC feminism we have Lierre Kieth and the Deep
Green Resistance in Oregon and WoLF is headquartered in NorCal. There might be more if you dig into their websites.

I suspect there's a chance we might all be back at the 'find the other women, sit, drink coffee and conciousness-raise" stage.

That's OK, I've started looking for others who share my views in my Pacific Coast community, and I have met a few. Anything organic takes time, but there ain't nothing more organic than female. We're not going anywhere.

Alicethruthelookingglass · 16/03/2021 21:17

Forgot to add, WoLF has a women-only retreat in the hot spring country of CA (in normal times of course). I've always wanted to attend.

fatblackcatspaw · 16/03/2021 21:20

there is a woman's march planned the women's picket in response to Biden's executive orders

Hibari · 16/03/2021 21:29

LGB Alliance are a far right group fronting as LGB rights.

WoLF have accepted money from the ADF.

Neither should be given any credence. That said: it's genuinely hard to find a GC group without conservative christian ties given who the founder of the movement is and what her views are.

Also not helped by the growing conservative positions of a lot of the "big names," in the movement...and if any of you mention Greer as "good," I'm going to bring her book up and make you very cross.

Zeev · 16/03/2021 21:39

Hibari that's bullshit. Is completely baseless mudslinging the best you can do?

Helmetbymidnight · 16/03/2021 21:41

far right group filled will left wingers?

sounds plausible Hmm

Helmetbymidnight · 16/03/2021 21:43

who is the founder of this movement?

you cant be in the uk because you sound like you have absolutely no idea about british culture, british feminism or british politics?

Xiaoxiong · 16/03/2021 21:46

The "founder of the movement"? Who's that then?

I'm not in any movement. The scales fell from my eyes when Caitlin Jenner was named woman of the year and said that the hardest thing about being a woman was figuring out what to wear.

Zeev · 16/03/2021 21:47

By the way, hibari and shizuku, are you related or is it just a coincidence you both have names that are Japanese satellites? I too am interested in the JAXA space program.

gardenbird48 · 16/03/2021 21:48

Hibari that is a baseless and unfair accusation.

LGB Alliance was started by people like Allison Bailey - the black lesbian QC who Stonewall tried to get sacked for stating that she wanted to protect her rights as a lesbian.

Kindly keep your smears out of this.

Save Women's Sports are based in the US - they might be a starting point for a local group for you op.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/03/2021 21:49

I want a UK WOLF - best name ever!

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/03/2021 21:52

Keep Prisons Single Sex are starting to get active in the US too. www.keep-prisons-single-sex.org.uk/usa

LGB Alliance are a far right group fronting as LGB rights.

Absolute homophobic nonsense, Hibari.

Reactionaries and AWAs in the UK were complaining about LGB Alliance long before it launched, when they could have had no knowledge of the group. It's been running for a few years, and still no one has been able to present any any concrete or convincing evidence. The complaints they have made are demonstrably false.

The leaders involved in the group have been known names on the left and in gay rights activism in the UK for decades - it's simply not credible that they all would have been converted to some fringe US religious right ideology overnight.

It's possible that the USA group is different - but given what happened in the UK no one is going to just take some random person's word for it.

Suspect the OP can follow a link and judge for herself, though.

fatblackcatspaw · 16/03/2021 22:02

yeah revolutionary thought WOMEN THINKING FOR THEMSELVES

Hibari · 16/03/2021 22:29

@Zeev

Definite coincidence. But a funny one.

My mother is Japanese and Hibari is my actual name. It makes sense for a satellite though given it's meaning.

Hibari · 16/03/2021 22:34

@Xiaoxiong

The "founder of the movement"? Who's that then?

I'm not in any movement. The scales fell from my eyes when Caitlin Jenner was named woman of the year and said that the hardest thing about being a woman was figuring out what to wear.

Founder might be a stretch but I was talking about Janice Raymond.

Re: LGB Alliance not being allies: They've defended conversion therapy so they ain't no friends of mine.
Also my stance that removing the T is a shit idea and that anyone who pushes for it is either seeking to weaken the LGBT movement or being used as a useful idiot.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/03/2021 22:37

Keep Prisons Single Sex are starting to get active in the US too.

Oh that's brilliant. They need them!

fatblackcatspaw · 16/03/2021 22:45

and where have the LGB Alliance defended conversion therapy?

Hibari · 16/03/2021 22:51

Not the first time. They're a proponent of "say one thing, do another."

fatblackcatspaw · 16/03/2021 22:53

that account protects their tweets - conveniently enough

Olderstyle1 · 16/03/2021 23:04

I know there's no point but can't let this nonsense stand. LGBA are firmly against conversion therapy for LGB people. They have called for caution in the case of GNC children who identify as trans since a significant majority have co-morbidities and/or a background of childhood trauma or abuse and it's important to look at the whole picture before affirming. There's also considerable evidence (including from Tavistock staff) of parental or community homophobia. Current research suggests that between 61-90% of gender dysphoric children and young people will desist provided they are not put on a medical pathway. So caution in these cases is a reasonable stance.
