Are there any groups that promote Women’s rights

I’m British, and live on the West Coast US. Does anyone know of any groups or organizations that are US based, similar to Rad Fem type groups or LGB Alliance? The pushback from TRAs is huge everywhere, and anyone objecting is labeled a right wing bigot.

Another area I’m interested in is MDA (moms demand action), which is a women led movement for gun safety and regulation. I was disappointed to see that the founder, Shannon Watts is full on TWAW. I continue to volunteer with MDA, but I need to find my people in the US. Appreciate any help.

Here we go again with the “anything but 100% affirmation is conversion therapy” bullshit.

So tedious.

Thelnebriati · 16/03/2021 23:19

Its a right wing tactic to post false claims online.

@Hibari

LGB Alliance are a far right group fronting as LGB rights.

WoLF have accepted money from the ADF.

Neither should be given any credence. That said: it's genuinely hard to find a GC group without conservative christian ties given who the founder of the movement is and what her views are.

Also not helped by the growing conservative positions of a lot of the "big names," in the movement...and if any of you mention Greer as "good," I'm going to bring her book up and make you very cross.

Aw, Hibari, you shouldn't have! What a lovely bucket of shite you've brought...

I attended the LGB Alliance launch in Glasgow and I must say for far right extremists they were terribly left-leaning. Maybe you could give them some lessons as to how to be properly far right? Or do you think they kept their far-rightism hidden and only brought it out when I left after the dancing started? I did have a terribly long drive home, but maybe I should have stayed to check if there was any far right dancing, just to make sure? (Some people were fair listing a bit with drink by that point, but they were multi-directional rather than far-right leaning.)

And what's that about not being able to find a "GC group without conservative Christian ties"? Shall I make you an appointment with Specsavers? (Other opticians are available.)

Conservative Christians really aren't anywhere near as prominent in the UK as they are in the US, so if we all have ties to them, those poor few we have must by now look like they've been lassooed by the world and her mother.

I mean as a militant atheist I'm hyperaware of religious extremists of any kind operating anywhere near me, so maybe you can enlighten me how all those UK fundies working with the many groups I've met have been hiding in the bushes undetected by me. And I've got new glasses on and everything.

I'm really rather disappointed that my glasses have failed me so badly Blush

Delphinium20 · 16/03/2021 23:45

I'm a left-winger in the US and I too am having a hard time finding a GC group that isn't in bed w/ right-wing conservative nonsense (in the US, right-wingers really are enemies of women). However, I don't think WOLF is right-wing, I just think they agreed to partner on some issues w/ groups that are conservative women groups...but I've written them several times asking them to stop with the problematic bedfellows...it will just harm us in the long run. I can't speak for LGB USA as I haven't paid attention.

But please note that conservative women's groups in the US are NOT feminism, e.g. Concerned Women for a Conservative America are actively working to dismantle reproductive freedoms for women and they vote for policies that hurt migrant women and children, etc. It truly is difficult to find a working US feminist group that includes public GC voices (though I suspect these GC women exist silently w/in feminism groups).

Sorry where in those tweets did they defend conversion therapy??

CharlieParley · 17/03/2021 00:17

They didn't.

notyourhandmaid · 17/03/2021 03:06

I can't believe someone is telling lies about what people who don't subscribe 100% to gender ideology do, this is totally unprecedented.

We have been asked in the past why we do not work with LGB Alliance, this is why.

Yesterday they launched an attack on our attempts to ban conversion therapy.

LGB Alliance are a hate group who use the language of liberation to cloak their assault on LGBT+ rights.

This is a clear example of their approach. They have noticed that our successful campaigns against conversion therapy are gaining traction.

So they are advertising for trans-hostile conversion therapists so they can promote them using language that hides their true nature.

They are calling for more care, but they want to ensure it is not "affirmative".

To explain - "Affirmative" care is when a child's is trusted to say what their sexuality and gender identity is and the care supports them in that and does not attempt to change it.

LGB Alliance don't want that. They are advertising for psychotherapists who are open to challenging a child's sexuality or gender identity instead of supporting it.

Open to the idea of conversion therapy.

That's why they don't support legislation. They don't want a ban.

Hate is hate, no matter what it says on the tin, & conversion therapy is conversion therapy even when they call it "alternatives to affirmative care".

This is a tactic many groups already use to oppress peoples sexualities. LGB Alliance are not the first & will not be the last.

Here's ECTS laying it out and giving full context to the screenshots for those of you who aren't able to see the thread. I assume they've blocked you for spouting transphobic gibberish like "gender ideology" on twitter.

Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies...

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 17/03/2021 06:57

If a child or teenager tells you they want drugs to stop their bodies & brains developing and will want surgery later, say yes, immediately. Or it’s LITERAL VIOLENCE.

Helmetbymidnight · 17/03/2021 06:59

poor hibari, lost all credibility now.

TGB Alliance is a support group for LGB people. What it doesn’t do is centre Trans ideology in its aims. That’s why TRAs are getting mad. It absolutely upholds the rights of homosexual people. Unfortunately, some TRAs would rather a child be trans than gay.
Soontobe60 · 17/03/2021 07:15

@CharlieParley

And here their article
Do you not think children should have ethical psychological support if they are struggling with their identity? I’m not surprised that you think this is what constitutes conversion therapy. It isn’t. How can NOT changing something be conversion? If a child is so confused about their sexuality that they need support, then sound, evidence based therapy will help them come to terms with it in their own way. TGB Alliance concur that a small % of children presenting this was will eventually transition, but, as experts in this field concur, (see reports from the Tavistock) given a policy of watchful waiting, ie no intervention, the vast majority of such children do not transition, and a significant number come to a realisation that they are gay.
Soontobe60 · 17/03/2021 07:15

@CharlieParley my response above was for @Hibari !

newyearnewname123 · 17/03/2021 08:23

I see i am not the only one who followed hibari's link, read the LGB alliance screen shots and concluded they didn't show what hibari or the tweet was claiming.

If there's one thing feminists on mumsnet do, it's fact check.

Sorry I can't be of any help regarding US groups. I would suggest contacting any GC groups even if not active in your area and see if they have contacts in your area.

I suspect that you need to actually read things with your own critical analysis instead of reading completely biased views.
