The Cognitive Dissonance of Owen Jones

I just...

URRRRGH!

"Solidarity with all women sharing their experiences of living under the constant threat of male harassment and male violence.

What they’re all underlining is how the conversation shouldn’t be about how women can keep themselves safe but how men can be stopped from being a danger"

Oh FFS, that is unbearable. I do like some of the comments though!

ValancyRedfern · 11/03/2021 20:58

Happily I am blocked so I don't have to see this.

Grace Hawthorn in the replies

“ give him credit, he's never one to let a bandwagon pass, unjumped.
it'll blow his mind to find out all the ways men exploit to be 'a danger'”

Doyoumind · 11/03/2021 21:01

I find it hard to put into words my feelings for that man. But I take heart from the fact that he's well disliked.

peak2021 · 11/03/2021 21:12

And what is his view on self-ID?

teawamutu · 11/03/2021 21:38

Sanctimonious, disingenuous little shite.

Which could be my comment under every single thread featuring ol'Talcum X, but y'know.

SunsetBeetch · 11/03/2021 21:45

@peak2021

And what is his view on self-ID?
All for it. Hates GC people.

I'm seeing this attitude everywhere today and it's giving me so much rage.

I'm part of a Facebook group for a crime podcast and only hours ago there was some frothing about another podcast recommendation because it's hosted by someone who is allegedly transphobic. She is actually superb but had the audacity to have an interview with Julie Bindel. Julie was on to talk about her narrow escape from Peter Sutcliffe and what it was like to live through that period in Leeds, and her involvement in the 'take back the night' protests. The irony that these same group members are jumping all over the current 'take back the night' sit ins, and that practically tackling male violence is this presenter's real life career, appears to be totally lost on them. I fucking despair 🤬

SenecaTrewe · 11/03/2021 22:05

Little git.

Impatiens · 11/03/2021 22:06

Appalling hypocrisy, heard a lot of it today. As if it wasn't all tragic and unbearable enough. Bastards.

WhereYouLeftIt · 11/03/2021 22:11

Hypocrisy, thy name is Owen Jones.

What a wankstain he is.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2021 22:14

'one rage short of an aneurism' - oh, wow, how did they know?

I'm not even a rage-y person!

“Never one to let a bandwagon pass, unjumped”

sums it up perfectly

I'd really like to listen to this, can you say which podcast?

Bordois · 11/03/2021 22:31

oh fuck off, you wanker

WeeBisom · 11/03/2021 22:37

I honestly don't think this is hypocrisy. I think the belief in self ID is so shallow that unless the concept of 'trans' is activated, then most people talk and behave as if sex is real and that male, yes male, violence is a fact. I had a friend who completely stopped communicating with me because I disagreed that TWAW. I apparently was a 'bigot'. And yet the very next day she was on twitter stating that 'the benefits of lesbian sex is that you can't get pregnant!' It just absolutely did not cross her mind that some women have penises. So as much as I don't like Owen Jones, I don't think he's being a hypocrite here. Rather, his belief in self ID and all that entails is so shallow (a pseudo belief) that it just isn't engaging with his other deeper beliefs like 'women are threatened by male violence, and men are a danger.'

It's Laura Richards' Crime Analyst, episode 8 was the interview but the whole series is very insightful. Sorry, I didn't mean to be evasive but didn't want to derail. I think the work she does is just incredible.
aliasundercover · 11/03/2021 22:56

OJ doesn't engage with anyone who disagrees with them ... well, unless it's Piers Morgan. He just says they are nazis or TERFS. He doesn't have to argue with them or think about their arguments because he is right and good, and they are wrong and bad.

Whenever an interesting point is raised, for example: 'would you have sex with a transman Owen?', he simply shuts down the debate and shouts an insult.

He's not exactly a great thinker is he? He's the left's version of Richard Littlejohn.

NiceGerbil · 12/03/2021 01:17

It's this way all the time and it's really pissing me off.

A PP put well what I've not been able to articulate.

'. I think the belief in self ID is so shallow that unless the concept of 'trans' is activated, then most people talk and behave as if sex is real and that male, yes male, violence is a fact. '

They all do it. The BBC, guardian, girl guides, various major charities.

On some issues they say women or men and people are expected to understand they mean sex. EG male higher risk of covid. Not a penis owner, or testicle haver in sight.

Other subjects they say men women and people are supposed to understand they mean gender, how you identify.

And then there are other topics (well female reproduction mainly) where it's people with vaginas etc.

There is no way they would have a headline eg Uighar people with vaginas subject to detention and rape...

But they should. They made the rules. Fucking own them. Follow them. Put your money where your mouths are you hypocritical bastards.

MsSavouryPancake · 12/03/2021 02:34

He's such a wee bawbag !

merrymouse · 12/03/2021 06:16

Wasn't he one of the people who spread the idea that JK Rowling was weaponising her experience of male violence?

They made the rules. Fucking own them. Follow them. Put your money where your mouths are you hypocritical bastards.

Yes, they really should.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 12/03/2021 06:16

Can't decide if he's a weasel faced arse, or an arse faced weasel.

Whatwouldscullydo · 12/03/2021 07:17

Things like this give me the rage.

I just can't...
