ITV:

EXCLUSIVE: The government is creating a "hostile environment" for LGBT+ people, according to its own equalities advisor.

Resigning in protest, @JayneOzanne accuses some of becoming "Ministers for Inequality", particularly over conversion therapy.

BBC reporter tweets:

NEW: A second member of the Govt's #LGBT Advisory Panel tells me they're also quitting

James Morton says he's been “very concerned for several months that Liz Truss and her junior ministers are not committed to LGBT equality.”

Lots of calls for Truss to go on Twatter as you can imagine. She's really hacked them off by standing up for women.

Great. Hopefully more of the woke will quit and leave governing to people with sense.

highame · 10/03/2021 21:00

The BBC will be all over this like a rash but not so much ONS case

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:01

Liz Truss won't do what we tell her to do behind closed doors so we'll trash her in public. Straight out of the Stonewall playbook.

Is the equalities advisor a civil servant or an external adviser?

GNCQ · 10/03/2021 21:04

Can't help but notice a top Tweet in reply to the Tweet in your OP from Paris Lees - who has basically formed a career out of being trans, pretending to be horrified that anyone recording statistics should know they were born male.

How dare we know something Paris Lees makes sure we all know!

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:05

There's background on the panel here: www.gov.uk/government/news/lgbt-advisory-panel-recruitment

"We are seeking to appoint 9 members through an open competition. Successful applicants will be expected to spend up to 2 days a month on panel work and to attend quarterly meetings.
An additional 3 members will be directly appointed from Stonewall, the LGBT Foundation and the LGBT Consortium, so as to represent the breadth of the LGBT voluntary sector."

Great. Hopefully more of the woke will quit and leave governing to people with sense. Liz Truss has hit jackpot here but please - she speaks little sense in many other matters. Let's not laud her

highame · 10/03/2021 21:07

Nothing from LGB Alliance then?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:11

Appears not. Paul Brand being briefed directly by Stonewall I suspect. Feels choreographed - especially in a week with so much going on in the courts.

James Morton as in Scottish Trans Alliance?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:26

@teawamutu

James Morton as in Scottish Trans Alliance?
The very same

It is beginning to feel a bit like all out war and I'm assuming that's because we keep trampling through the courts and writing to MPs and governments.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:29

James Morton is a busy man

It feels like an escalation of their efforts

Somebody really needs to channel their inner Carrie Mathison and do a visual map of all the connections between the different groups, companies and individuals that have direct access to the government departments.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:48

And Stonewall automatically granted three seats at the table.

Reading the BBC article it seems Ozanne resigned because the government didn't put a firm date on a bill to end conversion therapy. Morton resigned because the government's statement responding to Ozanne, didn't center trans.

I suspect there is also frustration that the past practice of backroom deals has been rumbled and people are demanding more transparency.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 21:50

I've been thinking about that and I think it's easier for them to tag it to the gay conversion therapy debate - more popular support. The timing is too coincidental not to suspect there are wider issues at play.

Grow up, James. Learn to make a coherent, evidenced case and you might get somewhere. A strategy based on threatening to rape and kill dissenters was never ever ever ever going to work forever.

notassigned · 10/03/2021 22:19

The TV piece concentrated on stopping gay conversion therapy and if that had been all it was it would look very poor that the government was dragging its heels. But they are wrapping it up with gender identity conversion therapy in terms of the legislation.

The average person simply doesn't understand the ramifications of that.

gardenbird48 · 10/03/2021 22:30

The LGBT Advisory Council was set up in 2019 with the term of current panel members set to end on March 31st.

Right at the bottom of the BBC report (at least they didn’t miss it out altogether). They resigned a couple of weeks before the role ended as planned - so not quite as serious as it might at first seem.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 22:33

Ahhhhhhhhh

OP posts:
gardenbird48 · 10/03/2021 22:36

As in the flouncing not quite as serious - obviously the criticism is bad.

Not that the critics of Liz Truss will take any notice of that inconvenient fact Hmm

teawamutu · 10/03/2021 22:40

Hoping Liz Truss, Kemi Badenoch and co are thinking FOTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM rather than 'eeek how do we get them to stay'.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 22:41

It's anti Truss propaganda innit. Hope govt gives it short shrift.
