That article would be better without the hyperbole. Amazon has not killed bookshops; e-books have not killed bookshops. The book trade has responded better than most sectors to the threat of online sales.
The village I grew up in in the 60s and 70s had a newsagent who kept a very small stock of books. It closed but the village now has a proper bookshop. It's the same in many rural locations. The city I live in has new, small local independent bookshops too.
