Amazon has introduced a new “hate speech policy” and banned a book about trans gender. Conservative media is referred to this as digital book burning.

That article would be better without the hyperbole. Amazon has not killed bookshops; e-books have not killed bookshops. The book trade has responded better than most sectors to the threat of online sales.

The village I grew up in in the 60s and 70s had a newsagent who kept a very small stock of books. It closed but the village now has a proper bookshop. It's the same in many rural locations. The city I live in has new, small local independent bookshops too.

This is really concerning I pay for Amazon prime but try not to use them. Going to try harder.

Hollow, it is “When Harry became Sally”. I haven’t read it but apparently it is about transgender and allegedly respectfully written.

It frames being transgender as a mental illness.

Not really respectful or in line with current scientific or psychological evidence.
If that's enough for them to chose not to sell it... I guess that's up to them? /shrug

Just checked - Mein Kampf is still for sale, so glad to see the Amazon ‘hate speech policy’ is being consistently applied...

I believe in free speech; this includes allowing delusional idiots like coronavirus denialists free speech as well. After all, censoring them only adds to their credibility.
