This is a 17 page pdf exploring how this MOU came to be and the activist networks involved in capturing counselling bodies.

Written by Shelley Charlsworth, it's worth taking 15 minutes to read through.

Thanks for sharing Ova. There's a thread on Twitter for those interested:

This makes for shocking reading but thank goodness this is now being being exposed.

Many of us have seen and discussed some of this and the people involved here over the years, but this investigation brings everything together and joins all the dots.

OvaHere · 18/01/2021 14:23

For those new to the board this is an old but relevant thread by the excellent Lang Cleg.

Wow.

That was like reading a Woodward and Bernstein exposé. My heart was thudding with my own incredulity of how this has been allowed to occur.

This 2019 document now governs how all registered therapists work with adults and children with gender problems. In light of Keira Bell and the immediate suspension of the use of puberty blockers announced by NHS England, the NHS, the Royal College of GPs and other professional bodies should investigate how they came to sign the MoU2 2019 and how an unaccountable group with non-professional membership and lobbyists came to be dictating policy.

The Keira bell judgment has certainly thrown a spanner in the works. No wonder certain people desperately want the judgment overturned.

However, for some, the writing would appear to be on the wall, and they are busy reverse ferreting like there's no tomorrow.

The UKCP will also have to explain its role because in a final act of historical revision the policy section on on their website now links only to the 2015 MoU, which deals only with sexual orientation. Unfortunately for them, the subsequent versions all exist, each bearing their signature on the cover.

We have a more pressing question. How did the NHS, the RCGP, the British Psychological Society and the renowned professional bodies all get hijacked by an unaccountable, unrepresentative, activist network who are working to embed un-evidenced ideas about ‘gender identity’ into the heart of therapeutic practice?

Just noting here that Stephanie Davis Arai was shortlisted for the John Maddox prize.

The John Maddox Prize for Standing up for Science recognises the work of individuals who promote science and evidence, advancing the public discussion around difficult topics despite challenges or hostility.

She is forensic. Little wonder she is relentlessly targeted.

Thank you OP. Well done TT for yet another detailed expose. This is such an important issue for desperate parents trying to find an ethical child centred therapist for their vulnerable children. It defies belief that yet again children are collateral used by adults pursuing an ideology. Sad

dyslek · 18/01/2021 14:38

Shelley's journalism is amazing, she could teach the zombies at the guardian a thing or two.

I believe she was a journalist for the BBC before retiring.

This.

Imagine knowing why your child is trying to identify out of womanhood, because of trauma, or their sexual orientation, or ASD, and their therapist has no choice but to say yes, of course, you are a boy, that's why you're in pain.

And how come so very many people couldn't see the blisteringly obvious conflict of claiming that sexual orientation is innate, and one should never try to change it, whilst simultaneously saying you can change it by becoming trans.

highame · 18/01/2021 15:08

bloooody helllllll, have just read and am absolutely staggered that such prestigious bodies (or so I thought) are such dimwits. They are either dimwits or lily livered and unable to stand up to the loud noises. In either case they should not be in positions to make decisions about therapies for young people or indeed adults. Wow, just wow.

I know it's a bit of a read but capture is there writ large and they can't say there weren't dissenting voices either. The fact that things were just shunted under the table is unbelievable.

I think it's time government had a really good look at our institutions to see if they are still fit for purpose. Many aren't

Datun · 18/01/2021 15:22

Plus the intimidation tactics! The phone calls, the are you with us or against us convos. It's all so menacing.

And the people involved. That person who said there was no difference between a clitoris and a penis, apart from the size and whose partner is in charge of Hampstead ponds?

Who gives these people any kind of credibility?

persistentwoman · 18/01/2021 15:35

Fancy wilfully ignoring the therapeutic needs of children in order to pander to adults seeking personal validation. Imagine allowing individuals with massive personal stakes in all this to dictate the treatment of children.
Over and over again we see those with specific legal responsibilities to safeguard children (NSPCC, the NHS, Barnados, Social Care, even some schools et al) all falling over themselves to pander to the wishes of adults and ignoring their (usually statutory) requirements to safeguard children.
I know we see this repeatedly in sports, politics etc where adults with a personal interest are elevated to the "sacred caste" role but to watch it happening in relation to to the safety and emotional wellbeing of children is unbelievable.
Well done to Shelley & TT for exposing this outrage.

Datun · 18/01/2021 15:39

I hadn't realised it wasn't written by Stephanie Davies Arai.

So yes, huge thanks to Shelly Charlesworth. A magnificent piece of writing, which deserves to be turned into a documentary.

CaraDuneRedux · 18/01/2021 15:43

Every time I read this sort of shit, I am struck by the following.

My cat's vet was more scrupulous, professional and ethical in explaining what "off label" meant in connection with using human antibiotics and chemo drugs on my cat than these psychologists are in explaining what "off label" means in connection with using drugs developed to treat prostate cancer in adult men on pre-pubescent children.

Makes you think...

SisterWendyBuckett · 18/01/2021 16:24

There's likely to be some severe pushback to this but - nothing can make this shit show disappear now.

We see you. We've always seen you. And now everyone else will see you too.

highame · 18/01/2021 17:19

The trouble is sisterwendy they do keep pushing even though we do see them.

Look at Stonewall with their new schools awards and championships....by any route at all is the moto

SisterWendyBuckett · 18/01/2021 17:37

I agree Highame - this is an emergency.

However, getting good therapists to have the confidence to push back against ideological
capture is essential.

Calling out the capture of their professional bodies is essential.

Knowing who is behind this - how it all links up - is essential.

Things are changing - it may be slow but they really are.

Melroses · 18/01/2021 17:39

I know we see this repeatedly in sports, politics etc where adults with a personal interest are elevated to the "sacred caste" role but to watch it happening in relation to to the safety and emotional wellbeing of children is unbelievable.

That used to happen because there was a naivety in growing organisations, but we have been through it so many times and have put layers of safeguards in place. And now people who should be maintaining them are just blowing holes through them and willfully ignoring the consequences.

highame · 19/01/2021 16:16

I'm just bumping this because they've made me feel so proud and I just want to see it a little more

RozWatching · 19/01/2021 16:56

Haven't read the full document yet but...

The UKCP will also have to explain its role because in a final act of historical revision the policy section on on their website now links only to the 2015 MoU, which deals only with sexual orientation. Unfortunately for them, the subsequent versions all exist, each bearing their signature on the cover.

What the hell are they playing at?!
And this tweet from Stephanie - most people would have given up, and I wouldn't blame them:

Oh, her tweet!

That is the point at which my shock and outrage soared.

Like one of those films what the hero wakes up and everyone is against him, and he can't work out how on earth he can find help.

The woman is bloody courageous.

Datun · 19/01/2021 17:42

*where

SisterWendyBuckett · 19/01/2021 17:57

The woman is bloody courageous.

She is an absolute shero. We owe her big time.

HecatesCats · 19/01/2021 18:10

Stephanie ThanksStarWine

persistentwoman · 19/01/2021 18:25

Stephanie is awesome. Kind, thoughtful, compassionate yet absolutely determined to protect children. The TT website is incredible - full of thoughtful in depth analysis. And on twitter they're so respectful - in the face of the normal stream of vile threats and hostility that is so often found from so many supporters of the trans ideology.

PlantMam · 19/01/2021 18:54

Wow.

The bit about UKCP quietly backpedaling all the way to 2015 is particularly Shock
