That GCSE analogy is piss poor anyway. I've never come across a mainstream UK school that would allow a child to drop let's say, English, maths and science at age 13 or 14. They make those subjects compulsory because they are responsible grown ups.
Could you imagine anybody seriously suggesting that, from now on, children will be required to chose 1 subject for GCSE, which they will be required to stick with for life?
They will be locked in to continuing with that 1 subject through 6th form and, depending on the subject, through to apprenticeship (if they can find one) or university (if they can get a place) and it will be the only career path they will be allowed to pursue.
That would rightly be shot down, instantly, as insane.
