It closes 11:45pm on 29 January 2021

There is a lot of information on the Womens Place UK about the need for single sex spaces - but doesn't a call for evidence means providing 'stories' - personal or otherwise?

Ooh! Have a read of the attached document. Very reassuring language used - if you ignore the switch to gender...

The Equality Act provides that sex, age, disability and gender reassignment are protected characteristics. This does not mean that gender-specific toilets should be replaced with gender-neutral toilets. But there should be balanced consideration of how the needs of all those with protected characteristics should be considered, based on the mix of the population and customer demand.

piece on bbc website - a disproportionate amount from Felix perhaps but they(I assume) seem to favour 3rd spaces and pretty clearly identifies their problem as potential male violence.

Do not forget 'religion' as well. Muslim women who observe their faith must ablute before their prayer (5 times a day), and wash their hands, face, pat down their hair. They cannot do this in the same room as a male who is not related to them. Girls and women also cannot adjust their head scarfs in the presence of men who are not family. Having no single sex spaces ultimately applies a urinary leash to Muslim women and girls, preventing them from education and work.

On the above post - this applies to a male even with a GRC where his legal sex has changed to woman. Whoever thought up the GRA / GRC did not think. (But we know this).

There is an existing thread on this - but nobody seemed interested at the time! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4065955-Toilet-provision-for-men-and-women-call-for-evidence-Government-Consultation

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/12/2020 08:44

I think it was just the timing @stumbledinum

I remember seeing it but was cooking at the tome. Didn't have a moment to reply, though I did have a look at the Consultation on the SUnday morning!

I was sent a short YouGov survey on this. It just asked if I often had to queue for a toilet. Then, weirdly, whether it was acceptable for a man to use a woman's toilet if they were desperate to the point of wetting themselves. And vice versa. Can't see where they're going with that.

Just a reminder that the deadline is tomorrow
