My local radio station has stopped playing Rita Ora's music because she broke lockdown rules. While I don't condemn the fact she broke the rule, I feel so angry that the radio station have singled her out but are quite happy to continue to play music from Chris Brown, Michael Jackson,

Ahh the public punishment and burning of the witch.

sashagabadon · 01/12/2020 11:33

So ridiculous!

zanahoria · 01/12/2020 11:37

My guess is that MKFM are just after free publicity

It's ridiculous. Any excuse to discipline women though, right?

Kaliorphic · 01/12/2020 11:39

Really everyone should just stop playing their radio station. Zero listeners. Cancel them back.

Here's a list of musicians who have done some awful things.. there are so many - I had no idea about some of them!

What did Michael Jackson do? If you mean the abuse allegations, a small amount of research shows that these were all spurious, and likely as not contributed to his death. Macauley Culkin explained the ‘sleeping in his bedroom’ thing years ago- his bedroom was actually an apartment with many floors. The main accuser has attempted to squeeze money out of many other celebrities.
Michael Jackson was asexual. People can’t cope with that so they have to condemn him.
Oh and OP, I think you meant ‘condone’ not ‘condemn’ in your post. At least I hope you did. Have a good day.

AnyFucker · 01/12/2020 12:03

Oh, for crying out loud. I hope the channel's listeners cancel them

This is all about punishing uppity women, isn't it

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 01/12/2020 12:04

joeblack66 it’s pretty clear MJ had some incredibly strange and inappropriate relationships with young boys, whether they were sexual or not. He was clearly a very ill man but if I was only playing music by people whose morals I approved of MJ would not be being played.

MorrisZapp · 01/12/2020 12:04

Laughable. I'm embarrassed for them.

Wow, you've really drunk the kool aid haven't you. He wasn't asexual, he was a paedophile. It's a crying shame that he isn't still alive to prosecute.
MorrisZapp · 01/12/2020 12:12

Metro putting this story on their entire front page, sigh.

'one rule for the rich and famous' apparently. I must inform my sister, who's neighbours have been partying in their garden 'smoking shack' in their ex council street, wafting clouds of weed smoke everywhere.

Kaliorphic · 01/12/2020 12:19

The evidence is looking more and more likely that he was in actual fact a paeodophile.

If the radio station is playing the music of Michael Jackson, R Kelly and their ilk, but have banned a woman for breaking covid rules, then I can't see it as anything other than misogyny.
Neversleepingever · 01/12/2020 12:22

Thanks Joeblack066, anything to add about Rita Ora?

I assumed it was a cheap bit of publicly for herself and - I assume - a new record? Bit of a backfire there then.

Whoops I accidentally had a birthday party and 20 of my best mates accidentally turned up. My bad!

ClaireP20 · 02/12/2020 09:59

Hope they aren't playing the Rolling Stones (Bill Wyman and the 13 year old Mandy Smith..).

I doubt it

That was a Micheal Jackson specific plop

MrsMigginsMate · 02/12/2020 10:05

I mean she was a twat thought wasn't she. This wasn't a spur of the moment thing, it was a whole pre planned potentially super spreader event. But fuck the plebs right, as long as Rita and her rich mates can drink their fizz then who cares about the nobody's she spreads it to?

Wanting them to cancel male popstars for their crimes does not mean they have to un-cancel female ones. Surely the argument should be that they cancel both. Being a woman doesn't give her a free pass, the same as Mick Jagger being a man doesn't give him a free pass either IMO.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 02/12/2020 10:25

Very creepy when radio stations are the arbiter of morality. As you say, op, morality only seems to be applied to women in these situations. A bit of witch burning. Personally I don't like a radio telling me I can't hear music that comes from women they don't approve of. How petty. And before anyone says "it's not cancelling, you can hear her music elsewhere" that's not the point. The more people act like this radio station, the worse it gets, until you really don't have a choice.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/12/2020 10:40

Wasn’t jimmy saville a DJ?

nosswith · 02/12/2020 11:06

I agree with the ban even if temporary on Rita Ora's music. Two wrongs don't make a right.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/12/2020 12:14

It’s all just publicity isn’t it? I suspect neither party particularly really cares about Covid or lockdowns.

MargaritaPie · 02/12/2020 14:26

Has Rita released a new single or written a book or anything per chance? I agree with a comment above, there's nothing like a little controversy to get publicity which helps sales. As soon as she has the desired amount of publicity the "ban" on playing her songs will be lifted and she will be more popular than ever, wait and see.

As for Michael Jackson he was found not-guilty on all charges.
