My local radio station has stopped playing Rita Ora's music because she broke lockdown rules. While I don't condemn the fact she broke the rule, I feel so angry that the radio station have singled her out but are quite happy to continue to play music from Chris Brown, Michael Jackson,

Radio Exe as also partly stopped playing Rita Ora's songs btw, although this is just one DJ and his show, not the station.

That was a Micheal Jackson specific plop

Yeah, weird. Almost as if an alarm went off spmewhere and someone had to rush defend MJ ( who was definitely a peadophile)

MargaritaPie · 02/12/2020 20:21

Do you know something about MJ the judge and jury didn't may I ask?

RealityNotEssentialism · 02/12/2020 20:26

Pathetic. That’s the only word I have for it. I know I haven’t always stuck 100% to lockdown rules because I am an adult and make my own assessments about risk as do those I know, but I’m not famous so nobody cares. We will look back at this time in horror I think and wonder why we let the state exert such control over us.

I'm sorry, but Rita Ora has a 24/7 PR machine working for her. She's in the papers every day. Her PR feed both good and bad stories to keep the narrative going.

This is all just a publicity stunt to whip up attention, outrage, and sympathy.

Here's a list of musicians who have done some awful things.. there are so many - I had no idea about some of them!

@Neversleepingever so many euphemisms for rape in that article.
Tootletum · 02/12/2020 23:29

Yeah pretty twatty, I actually like the radio station in general as it plays so many catchy tunes, but am I the only one who is way grossed out by the Lady gargle thing?? Every morning at about 8.45 one of the breakfast presenters gargles a random tune. I switch channels as it just sounds like some drunk person throwing up! 😱

NiceGerbil · 02/12/2020 23:45

What? That's really bizarre :/

Smallsteps88 · 02/12/2020 23:52

What did Michael Jackson do?

Well if nothing else he dangled his terrified baby over a balcony. That’s pretty shitty.

RealityNotEssentialism · 03/12/2020 04:23

While Michael Jackson may have evaded justice during his life, we all know what he did and the poor children he abused have to live with that forever. After all, Jimmy Savile was never prosecuted either, despite coming to the attention of authorities multiple times and that does not mean he was innocent of what was alleged. The fact that someone is acquitted doesn’t mean that the allegations were definitely untrue and I think there are few today that think MJ was innocent.

Um yeah, I mean there’s the testimony of his survivors in that documentary film, as well as testimony from former employees that wasn’t heard at the trial. Oh and the fact that he paid off families where the boys said he abused them and that abuse allegations followed him for decades. And I would have thought that a jury hearing testimony from a child who could accurately describe the distinctive genitalia of an adult male they claim abused them would convict, but hey ho. His acquittal means very little and I’m quite concerned that you think it’s all lies (lots of liars all saying the same thing it seems). No grown man should EVER have sleepovers with young kids that he’s unrelated to and let them sleep in his bed and MJ openly admitted to doing so repeatedly.

Rita Ora is a bitch. About 5ish years ago, she came the McDonald's on Edgware road and asked to use the disabled loo. The staff said no and she replied "do you know who I am". Put me off her and the staff actually let her use it. Her music is shit anyway and people should stop listening to it.

GlenQuagmire · 03/12/2020 05:40

I don’t understand why Chris Brown got away with what he did. And people like MTV celebrate him. It’s totally unacceptable that a man can beat a woman and everyone just goes ‘oh well’.

Also pisses me off because it’s happening with Amber Heard. She admitted on tape to abusing Johnny Depp and everyone has said ‘oh well, she can keep her acting jobs but Johnny must be fired immediately’.

How do people decide who gets punished?

Derekhello · 03/12/2020 05:49

@ClaireP20

Hope they aren't playing the Rolling Stones (Bill Wyman and the 13 year old Mandy Smith..).
@ClaireP20 I’ve always wondered why a massive fuss wasn’t made about this, it still sickens me to this day 😔

It was because of apartheid, people thought they shouldn’t have been playing there during that time but they did anyway.
