They're half way through the filming the 3rd one aren't they? That'll bugger that up.

WoooooGhoulsDoAFlit · 06/11/2020 16:51

My money's on Brad Pitt to replace him.

RuffleCrow · 06/11/2020 16:52

Good. Plenty of talented and non abusive actors willing to take his place.

TheJourneyWoman · 06/11/2020 16:52

Good. I never liked him in it anyway.

WoooooGhoulsDoAFlit · 06/11/2020 16:53

PS. This is based on nothing more than thinking he'd be good at the role and he's the right age and a similar build and height. No inside info! (I wish!).

TheJourneyWoman · 06/11/2020 16:54

@WoooooGhoulsDoAFlit I think you're right. He'd be great.

WoooooGhoulsDoAFlit · 06/11/2020 16:57

Going to be interesting - I wonder how long they'll take to recast? If they're currently filming it will cost a fortune if there's too many delays.

DrudgeJedd · 06/11/2020 17:00

I wonder if JKR pushed for this? If so well done her, write Eddie Redmayne out too.

Kljnmw3459 · 06/11/2020 17:00

They won't find an unproblematic Hollywood actor to replace him. Do they exist?????

JacobReesMogadishu · 06/11/2020 17:03

Apparently recast already. Agree Brad Pitt would be good. But then didn't he flip out and threaten one of the kids on a plane?

Bet jkr sacked him. Good for her.

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/11/2020 17:04

Good.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 17:05

Awaiting Radcliffe & Redmayne's apologies to the women whose enjoyment of the Wizarding World has been tainted by the involvement of a domestic abuser...

Oh wait. Violence against women doesn't matter.

AdultHumanFemale · 06/11/2020 17:08

Tra la la! Just came on to post about this but thrilled to see I was beaten to it. Good call.

Beamur · 06/11/2020 17:55

The right decision. I wonder who has the role now?
A good reminder that no one is irreplaceable.

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/11/2020 18:37

"In a letter to fans, Depp said he had been "asked to resign" from his role as Gellert Grindelwald and had "respected that and agreed to that request"."

I thought he did an awful job in the second one, it really felt like his lifestyle is starting to affect his work, but then I haven't watched a lot of his stuff. I much prefered Colin Farrell in the first one, I wonder if they could bring him back?

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 18:50

Same, Dr, I was quite disappointed when Colin Farrell turned into Depp at the end! He used to be a brilliant actor but I didn't think he was doing anything other than playing Johnny Depp With A Wand in FB2.

ZZGirl · 06/11/2020 18:57

Then they should be asking Amber Heard to do the same thing for Aquaman 2

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/11/2020 19:01

I haven't watched the second one, despite really enjoying the first. Wonder if I can skip straight to the third one

BoomBoomsCousin · 06/11/2020 19:13

Sadly I think this is more virtue signaling than any sort of stand against misogyny. The request to resign was driven by the loss of a libel case about descriptive language used in a newspaper rather than the fact he was known to have committed domestic violence. If the courts had decided the phrase was too emotive for the facts of what had happened he would still have committed the same violence but Disney would apparently have been fine with it.

SophocIestheFox · 06/11/2020 20:29

That’s great news, he totally phoned in the performance in the first two. Looking forward to seeing who gets cast to replace him.

Packingsoapandwater · 06/11/2020 21:47

This is an insurance issue, and a marketing issue. He's too much of a liability because his substance abuse issues have now been widely publicised, so people are refusing to underwrite the production as there will, no doubt, be an actors' moral clause that voids the original agreement.

And they can't sell a film to kids with an actor who is now known to have substance abuse and anger management issues.

Agreed, its entirely a business decision. Hollywood is, after all, a business, and one that's in a lot of trouble right now with Covid shutting down production and distribution. They need to play safe.

still wouldn't mind seeing Redmayne shuffled off somewhere after film three. Go on JK, write him out...

That role will MAKE a Hollywood star out of anyone. It’s so sad and such a loss that these so-called big shots abuse their way into anything. A massively overrated actor and an inflated ego to boot. There are so many talented actors who don’t get a chance cos this lot ain’t ready to go!
