Am I going to look like a complete eejit?

I was trying to set up a profile for my daughter on the Zoe covid reporting app. My son has tested positive for covid and wanted to add the whole family as symptomatic etc
They asked what sex she was assigned at birth and I saw red and stopped setting it up and emailed them to say it was a ridiculous question as sex is observed. May have ranted slightly. They’re going to think I’m bonkers aren’t they? So fed up with this shit though. Just feeling a bit embarrassed now and I don’t feel well so I’m all doom and gloom.

Bit dramatic there jj

It's not dramatic to make that claim if your stance is that words aren't important or don't reflect an objective reality.

@334bu

"People aren't dying because of this silly app! What a load of hyperbole."

Are all treatments of Covid equally successful in females and male patients? Do we know? Is anyone checking?
Women die from heart attacks because the medication was developed for men. Are the drugs being used in ICUs tested on females or are they just tested on men? Do more men or women get Covid? Who are at most risks? Disaggregated sex data is very important . So people might indeed die because of " this silly app"

This is an algorithm written by university students to create graphics and blag funding. You are overreaching here.

When sex data is not disaggregated properly in medical research women die. The male sex is always the default. Why should we assume that poor data in this case will not result iin the long run in needless death or at the least a poorer outcome for women than for the default males

Something observed at birth could very well be a child's sex.

Use of the verb assign makes it less obvious that it is sex data being requested, as sex is not one of the things that may be assigned at birth.

Things that are assigned at birth may include a name, a teddy bear, a wristband, one of those wheely cots, or a teeny tiny hat. Reproductive biology is notably absent from this list.

Observed at birth would work. Determined at conception would cover it. Sex as originally recorded in the register of births, marriages and deaths, even. Presumed karotype based on external genitalia, if you want to put off people with low literacy, maybe. There are a great many ways to phrase the question without couching it in a lie.

Because the app is about as useful as a Facebook quiz, it's fuck all to do with sex data.

@TyroBurningDownTheCloset seriously? Get over yourself Hmm

334bu · 18/10/2020 22:04

"seriously? Get over yourself"

When us "non- men" stop dying unnecessarily we certainly will!

www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/18801768.burnley-pendle-blackburn-darwen-top-10-number-coronavirus-cases-past-seven-days/

News report - Burnley top 10 coronavirus cases.

Public Health England data

Am I going to look like a complete eejit?
Melroses · 19/10/2020 23:53

Yes, there are several gaps when you look at their map, including Pendle, Darwin, Burnley.

covid.joinzoe.com/data

They are obviously not accessible to some people for some reason.

teawamutu · 20/10/2020 08:07

I think it was the Zoe app I started signing in to, and ditched for precisely the same reason.

I do have the NHS app so hopefully will avoid killing thousands, just to clarify before whoever-it-was complainsGrin
