Another arrogant young intern? Not a good look, anyway.

Please take your transphobia out of our hashtag please. BYE

Such a grown up response, completely appropriate for a Royal Society.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/10/2020 18:56

Indeed.

Today is #iamabiologist day - some would say, the BEST day in #BiologyWeek! We'll be showcasing some amazing biologists and the work they do, so make sure to share your selfies by tagging us and using the hashtag so we can share it too!

#iamabiologist who knows that sex is determined at conception, observed at or before birth and is immutable. I also know that #BiologyIsntBigotry and that women are #AdultHumanFemales.

That's the exchange. That's what prompted this ludicrously hyperbolic reply from the Royal Society of Biology. I'm tempted to repeat that. The Royal Society of BIOLOGY. The world's going to hell in a handcart.

Oh FFS.

Kaiserin · 09/10/2020 19:55

Ah ah! What?

In times like this, what keeps me sane is thinking about Galileo or Socrates.
Sometimes, yes, the whole world is wrong, and no, you're not mad.

Vermeil · 09/10/2020 19:58

Good ratio, though 😁

ChattyLion · 09/10/2020 20:03

Eh?
Has anyone emailed their actual head office and told them what their social media people are tweeting to the public? Talk about anti-scientific, ignorant, unprofessional reputational risk...

They’re the Royal Society of BIOLOGY. Acting under Royal Charter...

A lot of people are getting really fed up of this bs.

ArabellaScott · 09/10/2020 20:38

How very rude and childish.

EarthSight · 09/10/2020 20:41

Lol. Who the hell did they let loose on their Twitter today??

KatVonlabonk · 09/10/2020 20:45

Oh aren't they just adorable? Thanks for all the publicity kiddo.

Remember no one is trying to erase sex and we are hysterical pearl clutchers.

🤔

FWRLurker · 09/10/2020 20:53

#iamabiologist who knows that sex is real and important to womens rights and that acknowledging that Fact does not diminish the rights of trans people in any way.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/10/2020 20:57

Science is fucked. The Enlightenment was good while it lasted.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 09/10/2020 21:05

Given the tweet is poorly worded and childish in the extreme I doubt a biologist ever saw it, let alone that it represents some kind of considered view of the society.

It's a trope but I think this really is a case of some poorly trained 19YO being on twitter duty.

Antibles · 09/10/2020 21:24

Jesus wept. The Royal Society of BIOLOGY

Another intern been let loose on the Twitter feed? What the fuck are universities turning out these days? Because let's face it: only university graduates appear to attain this level of stupidity.

Lysenkoism in the 21st century.

Looks like RSB are the ones who need a Biology Week.

Antibles · 09/10/2020 21:27

Some poorly trained 19YO

Or someone who has been very well trained indeed by the trans movement.

Stripesnomore · 09/10/2020 21:33

Organisations should start realising that being young doesn’t make someone a better candidate for working on social media, that it requires skill and shouldn’t be handed to trainees and interns with little life experience.

FemaleAndLearning · 09/10/2020 21:49

Oh dear Royal Society if Biology. Totally captured. Are there any science establishments that haven't been? Wasn't it the Astronomical Society last year?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 09/10/2020 21:57

Christ almighty how on earth do they know which “trans people” want oestrogen & which want mastectomies Hmm
Unconscious people are entirely without sex which makes many assessments very confusing I suppose
Arrgghhh Sorry but really Angry

The replies to this (admittedly kind of mean-spirited) tweet insisting you absolutely can change sex

  • including chromosomes, but only if you're rich Hmm
  • and that's a fact you'd learn if you were more educated Hmm
  • and my new tits prove it and I'll continue to write lots of tweets about my tits Hmm
...no words

As a biologist...no, you still cannot change sex. Everybody knows that, and no biologist would suggest otherwise.

Is that where Alice ended up then? I was wondering...

Dalrymples · 09/10/2020 23:01

Still, the original tweet was a bit out of order to begin with (unless I missed something)

thelake · 09/10/2020 23:01

Didn't you know, the world is flat. Oh yes it is. Ffs. Science versus ....?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/10/2020 23:09

The original statement:

#iamabiologist who knows that sex is determined at conception, observed at or before birth and is immutable. I also know that #BiologyIsntBigotry and that women are #AdultHumanFemales.

What's wrong with that? The answer is not "but clownfish".

Something about the whole thing seems to be making institutions / people / organisations who should absolutely know better completely lose the plot. What is it? I don't understand.
