What's behind the Mermaids backpedal?

I've seen lots of allusions in Tweets on this to government contracts and implications that the volte face is financially motivated - are they only referring to the Self ID ruling (which seems rather tangential to the 'born in the wrong body' line)? Or is there a more tangible financial threat?

If supporters are teenage ideologues... then it won’t appease them. They will be baying for blood because - as we all know - teenagers are always very very right (and anyone over 30 is a dithery old fool who knows nothing - and has never known anything).

But as this is 2020 not 1984, we have archives and screen grabs so the attempts to rewrite history don't work.Grin

I've been out all day so not sure whether the ferret is now going in circles chasing it's own tail by now, so maybe I'll be wrong in remarking that it seems they're now trans GC - they were tragically trapped in the wrong metaphor and are now trying to surgically remove it.

I've just looked through their Twitter feed and their desperate attempts to re-write history.

Unfortunately for them, it's all online including Suzy 'we knew he was really a girl because he liked dresses', his father was really against him being gentle and effeminate' and 'he had a girls brain in a boys body' Green.

It would be funny if they hadn't been complicit in the ruining of so, so many young lives. Truly, they deserve everything coming their way.

Because if they don't reverse ferret, they're banned from schools. So they need to be able to assure schools that they are wholly compliant with the guidance and always were - even though that guidance could not be more explicit.

Might also be hard for these orgs to train other public bodies, while banned from schools. Tricky, that, in terms of being seen as fit and proper people to tell police and civil servants what to think.

Are the school training progs a significant income stream?

Someone said £40,000 a year on another thread, not sure how accurate that is. It’s not a huge amount but obviously them potentially not being allowed in schools will affect their donations.

First time commenting on any feminism topic but I read them all and follow with interest. Especially transgender issues and what is being taught to our children in schools.
My son started primary school this month at the local academy and I'd noticed back in the summer that the website advertised that it was a 'mermaids supported school'.

I've been on the website today and couldn't find it. I've been through every page and it's been removed!

Interestingly, Mermaids is now desperately assuring anyone who asks that they don't offer classroom talks or provide lesson materials. This may well be true - their training seems to be for staff and the likes of Allsorts, No Outsiders and Stonewall provide classroom materials.

I doubt revenue is the main thing. It's reputation.

Being publically branded as 'dodgy as fuck, not allowed in schools' is going to make quite a few parents of gnc kids think twice about listening to them uncritically.

Also, I'd bet, a large seething cauldron of Founder Syndrome narc melt down from the CEO (yes, I know she's not the actual founder, but seems to be largely responsible for the current direction of policy(.
