I've been thinking about this a lot recently as I truly believe that the tide is turning and the world is waking up to this madness (extra thanks for the additional sunlight from Ben Button!). If it wasn't for the push back on this from some brilliant women, many of us would not be aware of the situation and gawd knows where we would be now (looking at some of the other countries with self ID for example). So I just want to say thank you to the wonderful women on here who spoke out early and at a great cost to many of them. You have enabled me to hold my head up high when the shit hits the fan and others will be denying they knew of the problems this would cause. Or were actively part of it.

I would like to say a big thanks to everyone on here, for all the facts, information and down to earth views. As a bloke, I think this is one of the very few places where I can read about the current issues - women's sport, JKR, Glinner, single sex spaces, education etc.

Deargreenplace · 20/09/2020 11:42

Thank you, thank you Mumsnet FWR. I've finally signed up to say this.. the posts from you sharp, articulate, brave and funny women have open my eyes and ignited serious belly fires in our household. I've learned so much.

bellinisurge · 20/09/2020 11:45

If it's any encouragement, I put some of the TWAW activist arguments to my dd 13 in as neutral a way as I could. And explained (in as neutral a way as I could), the consequences for women's sport and women's safe spaces. She normally goes out of her way to disagree with me - and she knows I am gender critical (thanks to people on here opening my eyes to the consequences of 'just be kind').
She said "that's mad". To the idea of anyone who's been through male puberty competing against women. And to the idea that someone with a penis could rock up in a women's refuge. Given that she won't go into a public toilet without me or a female pal anyway, the loo thing is a moot point.

Unfortunately the moderation is getting more random and the deletions are increasing.
The external monitors are pulling the strings and gloating on twitter. Certain posters are being stalked.
Appeasement never works.

BatShite · 20/09/2020 14:26

Yeah, right after I posted my thanks message..I got a random deletion which..I cannot understand why.

Still prefer this random shot every now and again style deleting, than just deleting everything abut the topic though like many other places do.

I have genuinely no idea though who thought it was a good idea to take reports from people who are not members. That was just..batshit.

BatShite · 20/09/2020 14:27

Fairly sure I am not targetted though, am a noone totally on here! I clearly upset someone though, not sure how. That they are open though about targetting prominent members, shows how secure they feel in their power/hold over the forum.

This board has been a godsend for me, the range of knowledge and the eloquence have enabled me to write to my MP, send cards out to people thanking them, write to companies about policies and make donations to as many crowd funders as I possibly could.

On a more personal level, this board has helped me to wade through the swamp of having a child who identified as the opposite sex. Using the info and arguments gleaned from here and adopting a watch and wait attitude my child has gone back to their original name and pronouns after many years. The relief felt throughout our family is immense!

wellbehavedwomen · 20/09/2020 17:32

Same. I originally went looking into all of this in detail to prove the awful, terrible women on MN wrong - only to find out that they weren't wrong: I was. They held the line for us. Thank you.

I also think we need to acknowledge that Mumsnet chose to continue to host this conversation when no other mainstream site will, when it has been at some financial cost to them in lost advertising. They have enabled women to have this conversation, and the women on this board have then in turn opened so many eyes. Which is precisely why it's so closely monitored by those who disagree, and seek to silence.

Thanks, and solidarity in sisterhood, to you all.

Can you get screenshots of the gloating and email them to MNHQ? [email protected]
endofthelinefinally · 20/09/2020 22:08

I understand that has already been done.

MuthaFunka61 · 20/09/2020 22:33

Another thanks to all the wonderful and sane women on FWR.
For a while I thought there were only a handful who had kept their head when I saw the majority of the women around me fawning and 'being nice' to any male who pronounced themselves trans identified.

I've not often commented as everything I could say was already being said and often much more succinctly than I think i could.

Thank you and well done all.

The world is finally 'waking up' which is why 70% of people support self ID, and Kotaku (2M followers) can tweet things like this no questions asked

twitter.com/Kotaku/status/1306670411082616833

The world is waking up alright, but maybe not the way some of us hoped it would.

DialSquare · 20/09/2020 23:16

Don't be silly. Twitter isn't the real world. Please provide details of the 70% of people supporting self ID.
Is there anyone you'd like to thank whilst you are here?

OP posts:
Datun · 20/09/2020 23:37

Nope, 70% of the responses to the consultation supported self ID.

That's a completely different statistic. Obvs.

Reported in the national press like this:

"More than 100,000 responses were received to the consultation. Insiders say 70% backed the idea that anyone should be allowed to self-identify. However, officials believe the results were skewed by responses generated by trans rights groups".

And thanks again Lis, for yet more opportunities to correct all the misinformation.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 20/09/2020 23:38

The recent YouGov poll clearly disagrees with the bullshit 70% stat. twitter.com/MForstater/status/1284074093973770242?s=20

Thank You
Datun · 20/09/2020 23:41

You see Lisz, the consultation was to collect opinion. That involves quality, not quantity.

It was to sound out what would happen if the reform to the GRA went ahead. To garner information, statistics, data, on the impact.

Not to be told 70,000 times to be kind or else. Copy and pasted over, and over.

It doesn't say much for either the evidence, or the motivation of people, that they couldn't actually be bothered to fill it out properly, to be honest.

yourhairiswinterfire · 20/09/2020 23:47

The world is waking up alright, but maybe not the way some of us hoped it would.

The 70% included underage children that were encouraged to sign by a YouTuber, people not in this country who were given UK postcodes to use etc. Completely meaningless. Plus, it was hardly a referendum, it was just a futile spamming exercise.

They're at it again right now (dishing out UK postcodes to non Brits) with a petition that won't make a jot of difference.

And Kotaku can pretend JKR isn't involved in the game all they like. She may not have coded it herself, granted, but the Harry Potter universe is JKR, this game wouldn't exist without her. I understand she owns the Copyright for HP too, so she'll receive royalties from the game. So all Kotaku's salty tweet is doing, is encouraging activists to buy the game thinking she won't get their money.

Datun · 20/09/2020 23:48

Sorry Dial, I'm derailing your thread Blush

(I thought it was the self ID one).

DialSquare · 20/09/2020 23:56

No apology needed Datun. I'm always interested in what you have to say!

OP posts:
Quaagars · 20/09/2020 23:58

Thank you to the poster on here who, if it wasn't for their seemingly innocuous post, made me open my eyes and see WTF goes on here on FWR and to the undercurrent - grateful that it happened before getting too sucked in

DialSquare · 21/09/2020 00:02

Taking of derailing.....

OP posts:
Lisz · 21/09/2020 00:05

It was straight up calling her transphobic from an official account, to two million people, that I thought was interesting rather than anything else.

Been here before though, haven’t we? Two years ago everyone was ‘waking up’ and the tipping point had finally arrived and the tide had turned and bla bla bla.

Thank You
DialSquare · 21/09/2020 00:17

Like I said, Twitter isn't the the real world, however, using your logic, JKR has still got 14 million followers so more people agree with her than not.

Over the last few years, the women on here have opened many others eyes to the GRA reform enabling us to push back against it and it looks like they are now scrapping self ID, so yes,I would say the tide is turning..
