Shall we all self id as men?

If all the craziness continues, why don’t we all self ID as men? We don’t have to DO anything. We can dress how we want, be brave and beautiful, join the Masons (whoopee) and this would expose the madness for what it is...

Ok, so I'm not balding at the front so I've not quite got the look right but close enough.

Surely this can be dealt with Errol? When you’re shaving off your manbeard of a morning. Not your fault if your manbeard is up on your forehead instead of your chin.

DickKerrLadies · 29/07/2020 10:36

@MiladyRenata

Yeah but the right to wear dresses is so awesome, why would anyone give that up by identifying as male?

They are pretty much the most comfortable garment invented by humanity; basically a T-shirt (or blouse) that goes down to your ankles. Job done. No trousers needed, no need to worry about matching colours.

Since I transitioned, I basically wear them all the time, because I can.

Erm, there are plenty of men all over the world who wear garments like this and still manage to identify as male. Confused

Who was stopping you from wearing a dress?

The idea that women can't wear dresses if they identify as male is... interesting.

DickKerrLadies · 29/07/2020 10:38

Somehow, everyone I meet always manages to recognise me as female, even when I don't announce my pronouns.

I also agree that the rules are sex-specific, as demonstrated.

NewNewt · 29/07/2020 10:40

I am a woman and have been sitting on my hands this week since being strongly invited to put my pronouns on my email signature at work. I am mere millimetres away from putting "Marie/he/his/mine"

DickKerrLadies · 29/07/2020 10:42

I still like "sex-based, like my oppression" but I don't think I'd ever have the ovaries to actually do it Grin

NewNewt · 29/07/2020 10:43

yes me too, I was sorely tempted by that too ... or "Marie or call me what you like when I'm not there, I wont be able to stop you, that's how pronouns work"

My male colleagues are debating it/it

highame · 29/07/2020 10:46

men wearing dresses? who'd a thought

We could start a DIY project and then leave it

SansaClegane · 29/07/2020 10:51

Well, we've established that I'm already a man and always have been. So I shall continue to wear my manly dresses - after all, everything belonging to me (A MAN) is male/masculine/manly; from my dresses to my tits and menstruating uterus.
Btw did you know it's called MENstruating because men do it? Silly JKR, bet she didn't know that.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/07/2020 10:51

I'm in.
Now people will comment on how amazing I am to be a single parent and what a hero I am. And how awful my ex is for walking away.
Instead of asking why my ex left me and why I cant keep a relationship Hmm

I'm afraid you've been sold a pig in a poke, dear. You don't have to identify as anything to wear a dress.

Muttonindistress · 29/07/2020 11:09

I’ve been thinking quite seriously about this - and although I’d be willing to legally ID as Male to make a point, I don’t think I could bring myself to use Male toilets and changing rooms, insist on a men’s barber cutting my hair, insist on people use the right pronouns etc., because that may make other people uncomfortable.

I guess it’s my female socialisation/ having consideration for others/ not being a narcissistic, self-entitled arse.

Am I being paranoid, or does my iPad keep putting a capital m on Male even when I try to change it?

Winesalot · 29/07/2020 11:17

Oh yay!!! I only bought dresses to assure my daughter that a female can wear dress if they damn well please. But I also told her that in our 20s, I used to make her dad sarongs and he rocked them.

But I am looking forward to not having my opinion dismissed, and If young women do it they really won’t lose opportunities due to the ‘family’ effect. And I would so like to be considered ‘that catch phrase that gets a deletion’ for being my non conforming self.

And maybe people won’t just try to squeeze me off the wide towpath when I am running as if the 3 or 4 of them have entitlement to take over the whole path for their own pleasure.

Yes... I like it.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/07/2020 11:52

It's assuming you're trying to write Malé, the capital of the Maldives, but it's stupidly missing the accent so it looks like some weird sexist quirk. I've found that mine nowadays sometimes, but not always, changes it momentarily and then back again depending on context.

Sexnotgender · 29/07/2020 11:58

@SansaClegane

I already buy men's razors, because they're sharper and cheaper... And my favourite colour is blue... And I like rugby... does this... does this mean I'm already a man?? Shock
Are you me?? I not only like rugby I actually played it for years.
BippityBobbityBoo · 29/07/2020 12:01

My HR sent me a gender ID questionnaire this week and as I’m gender free I’m now officially transgender according to HR 😂

Muttonindistress · 29/07/2020 12:02

Thanks Errol. I thought I was imagining it.

It seems odd to default to the capital of the Maldives rather than the YY sex - as surely people are more likely to be typing the latter. Are you sure that’s not just Apple’s excuse for their blatant sexism. 😄

YY just defaulted to yay and then Yuan.

Quite. I’m not sure woman = dress or vice versa. Woman isn’t a costume.
caspiansghost · 29/07/2020 12:29

What about

W0nderW0man · 29/07/2020 12:32

I am seriously considering self-ID as a man. No-one will believe me as I wear dresses and skirts and make-up and pretty accessories 90% of the time but that's the point, surely? I can say I'm a man so I'm a man, no matter how I look and act.

I'm sure that my sadly turning-more-woke-by-the-day employers will treat me with more respect and allowances for poor performance if I tell them I'm a man and finally stop with my silent protest and add my chosen pronouns to my email signature, and I don't need to provide more evidence than my 'feelings'. I have a unisex name (or unigender?) so I won't even have to change my name.

Sexnotgender · 29/07/2020 12:35

I can say I'm a man so I'm a man, no matter how I look and act.

If Alex Drummond can lay claim to womanhood then you’re absolutely entitled to be a man.

DianasLasso · 29/07/2020 12:39

@ErrolTheDragon

I can keep my long hair because I'm a middle aged software developer. Ok, so I'm not balding at the front so I've not quite got the look right but close enough.
I'm going to keep mine long too but it will identify as a man bun.
ErrolTheDragon · 29/07/2020 12:43

I'm absolutely sure it doesn't. Dresses for women and not for men is merely a current (or rather, decades outdated) western cultural norm.

Equating dress wearing with being a woman is simultaneously both a regressive sex stereotype and cultural imperialism.

ColinTheDachshund · 29/07/2020 12:46

Woof!

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 29/07/2020 13:25

Equating dress wearing with being a woman is simultaneously both a regressive sex stereotype and cultural imperialism.

It's an assumption children under a certain age often make, from their observations of gender norms being filtered through a still developing brain - children are acutely perceptive at noticing social cues, but still only capable of very simplistic rationalisation.
