All over her Instagram it is flooded with trans stuff (fine) but it seems to be reaction to some sort of apology to the trans community?

Wasn't there a former footballer (goalkeeper IIRC) who turned his twitter feed over to some keyboard warrior for a week as some sort of overly dramatic virtue signalling act of solidarity - then the keyboard warrior posted all sorts of truly awful shit on it (started from defund the police and went steadily crazier from there... the guy turned out to be a full-on anarchist nut-job).

So this was the 'crime' for which she had to 'atone'? Sharing a video on support of someone who then demanded serial apologies?

Way to make celebrities wary of supporting anyone at all!

I just took a look at AH Instagram. It doesn't look like she's atoning for anything. She has hosted a week long "take over" of her insta page by a black a tivist. She chose a black trans activist. A number of white people with large social media platforms have done the same.

The trans woman actually says in one of her posts - "I don't care if you think I'm a woman" and (paraphrasing) I only care if you are celebrating my body being met with violence and then complaining when that violence lands at your door.

Part of the problem of some GC feminists finding common cause with fundamentalist Christians and other hard right etc is that there are some in that "broad church" who really do want to erase trans women. Whereas I "just" want them to embrace their transness and protect their rights as TRANS rights (not women's rights).

The reaction to this takeover on this thread shows a certain intolerance I feel - seeking evidence for thought crimes as if the only reason AH would lend her platform to a trans woman is because she has to atone. Not because she may feel that trans people in the states are vulnerable under the Trump presidency.

The infuriating thing is that complete brain-dead fuckwits in one bit of Netflix can do this, while other people within Netflix commission documentaries like Athlete A (which I've just finished watching, and I'm in bits - very, very powerful, upsetting, and ultimately uplifting because of the huge female solidarity of the survivors, the female prosecutor and the female judge).

And then the episode in the hospital? 'If you had looked at her rather than at her chart, Bailey is not a boy' - seriously?

And then the absolute kicker: 'If at all possible could you find me a non blue hospital gown' - whaaaaaat?!

You can see the talk of 'atoning' on Insta here and it is also referenced in the twitter link upthread. Something very obviously happened, and from the twitter link it seems she hadn't tagged people in a post

It's pretty fucking weird to give your insta account to someone who wears a T-shirt saying they hate you @Griefmonster.

The abject apologies won't be enough. Wearing a hair shirt won't be enough. Walking along the street beating yourself shouting Mea Culpa won't be enough.

@ThatsHowWeRowl - thanks for that pointer to twitter. I still can't really see the problem? This isn't woman bringing over backwards to appease TRAs - this seems much more an attribution issue which is really fraught in the context of structural racism and power dynamics. Powerful white woman uses her platform to show someone else's creative work and doesn't attribute it. This is pointed out and she apologises and makes amends by giving the creator her platform for a week.

In creative industries and activism attribution really matters. Any responsible person with a social conscience would do the same. I have no problem with this.

This doesn't feel like a battle of women's rights at all. But I have said this before and Ben shown a fresh perspective on this board.

I don't care if the person wearing the T-shirt is black, those are some fucked up dynamics.

The bit in the hospital was particularly terrible. I was just imaging the dr coming back in and examining her for stomach pain and diagnosing testicular torsion.

@Clymene did you read the post under the photo? It was about being used as a token trans person to "educate" people on the trans experience.

The t-shirt is a provocation I can see that, but it's provoking establishments that aren't taking responsibility for their duty of care.

I'm not seeing an attack on women here. This looks very like a trans woman doing exactly what we talk about - protecting TRANS rights.

By which I mean - I am willing to defend a trans woman's right to fight for her rights as a trans woman. Just not as a woman.

I can only see the photo and nothing written under it. And another link with so done calling Hathaway out for not crediting someone and, instead of just crediting them, apologising by giving them her insta.

So I stand by my previous posts. No capitulation will ever be enough.
