Miriam Margolyes being a massive transphobe

She's criticising JKR - calling her conservative. Then she says, 'If you seriously want to be a woman you should be allowed to'. I think she imagines she can decide who 'seriously' wants to be a woman, rather than having to accept anyone who wants to identify.

Miriam Margolyes is a twat anyway. I don’t know why these actors think the world needs to listen to their ridiculous bleatings.

mintkoala · 13/07/2020 13:30

It's transphobic because she's suggesting that a transwoman can become a woman under certain conditions, and the trans rights position is that they become a woman because they say so. She is implying that she, as a woman, can gatekeep womanhood.

Disappointed when women who are old enough to get it, don't.
Same with Shirley Manson.

nauticant · 13/07/2020 13:31

Every single actor in the UK can come of and loudly declared their allegiance to Mermaids and I'll still be wholly opposed to putting children on a medical pathway to sterilisation and little to no sexual function and allowing intact males into women's prisons.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:33

How often do mermaids get to RT the comments of anyone with actual respect in the field? I don't follow them but do they rt evidence and statistics?

I mean, Jesus, relying on semi famous actors and comic has beans isn't exactly a pr boost for the charity.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/07/2020 13:34

So as a lesbian, is she ok that lesbians are frequently told to accept males as sexual partners?

bishopgiggles · 13/07/2020 13:34

She didn't say that in the quote in your op though, just the bit you went on to "imagine"! Her quote is very much twaw!

I think Jim Davidson would be a perfect patron for Mermaids. He is one of the bitterest men I have ever come across.

He was caught cheating on his wife, so she left him. He takes no responsibility for his own actions here - but blames the Newspapers who reported it. He's still be married if it wasn't for those papers reporting it...

And of course, when it comes to taking sides - natal males "wanting" to be women will always have Jim's vote - over actual women who say, well, fine, wear dresses & makeup if you like, but you're not really women though, are you. See also: Billy Bragg, Owen Jones, beardy woke-bros.

These are women in the entertainment business. Handle ‘general public’ mixing with us ordinary folks on our ordinary worlds.
NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:38

I swear the woman posting the Jim Davidson is a clever troll...!

Fanthorpe · 13/07/2020 13:39

Jim was also a bit handy with his fists as well, only towards women though I think?

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:41

After checking, Sadly, she's not.

How ironic that she rt the post by MB about JK not being a scientist and then offers up Jim Davidson 🤣

bishopgiggles · 13/07/2020 13:42

(It's notable that she misgenders this 'darling man' who was 'always meant to be a woman' throughout, revealing that she doesn't for a second think of him as female. Tut tut, such transphobia.)

Yes, that's a much more notable example!

nauticant · 13/07/2020 13:42

Miriam Margolyes was interviewed recently by Louis Theroux and in this very filthy interview (I'd never heard the like on Radio 4) you can hear that she is unconventional in many ways:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08g4wm2

The interview did not have much from her in the way of common sense. It is though highly entertaining assuming you're happy with a fair bit of filth.

lady69 · 13/07/2020 13:43

She is a gobshite.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:44

I was musing over that other rubbish Scottish male comedian and his misogynistic rape jokes.

I swear that misogynists/Mra are using the twaw thing as a cloak of invisibility; "look I'm not a misogynist! I stand up for 'women!'"

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:45

How filthy Nauticant? Grin

SerenityNowwwww · 13/07/2020 13:45

It does seem to be a ‘type’ doesn’t it? Loud, offensive, obnoxious, self obsessed...

mintkoala · 13/07/2020 13:49

bishop -

She says 'if you seriously want to become a woman'. She thinks that if she thought a transwoman's motivation 'wasn't serious', she wouldn't have to recognise them as a woman. That 'if' is transphobic.

OP posts:
Pudmyboy · 13/07/2020 13:49

It just sounds to me like rambling comments which have been pounced on as support for trans in the same vein as the statement from the Hogwarts backstabbers (in my view) did. And note that the article joins all the other bits on. No mention yet anywhere of the person who set up one of them (think Mugglenet?) saying JKR wasn't a transphobe. Don't know why I keep being disappointed by the media and so-called celebrities; and as said by nauticant, still should make NO difference to the application of such a procedure on young (or even older) people/kids

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/07/2020 13:51

She says 'if you seriously want to become a woman'

It's like training for the marines or something.

Yes under many peoples definition of transphobia, her comments are transphobic.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/07/2020 13:52

Does she think that any women seriously want to become a man (and would she, lady bountiful like, allow this?)

mintkoala · 13/07/2020 13:59

training for the marines - Grin

PennyNotSoWise · 13/07/2020 14:01

😂 Jim Davidson. I think I'd need to take a good, hard look at myself if I found out he agreed with me on something. I certainly wouldn't be bragging about it.

Impatiens · 13/07/2020 14:11

I like her, so i'm very disappointed she's taken such a thoughtless tack on such a crucial issue. I think a lot of these people are under the impression that a transwoman is someone who has had their male genitalia removed.

Every single actor in the UK can come of and loudly declared their allegiance to Mermaids and I'll still be wholly opposed to putting children on a medical pathway to sterilisation and little to no sexual function and allowing intact males into women's prisons.

That's where I stand.
