Article on cancel culture. Read the first bit then there was this paragraph:

If you’re focusing only on the tiny number of women who could be at threat from men pretending to be trans, instead of the real threat faced by trans women now, then you’re not fighting for women — you’re fighting against a type of woman you don’t value.’

Want to go to sleep but feeling really angry. So depressing reading this, I feel worse for some reason when this sort of view comes from intelligent young women.

I pointed this out to a Woke friend who said "But we don't live in India". He was really shocked when I pointed out how racist that thinking is.

Who cares that she's dedicated an enormous amount of time and money to supporting and amplifying the voices of marginalised people? Who cares that she chooses to pay her taxes in full

When people were saying the writer was young I thought they meant like 17, not bloody 29! She does come across as very young but she’s nearly the same age as me!

I know, I really think it's time to grow up at 29.

@Theluggage15 I think the reason many young women believe (or say they believe) that transwomen are more oppressed, more vulnerable, more in need of support, than women or any other group is that they think feminism has already achieved its aims. They think the fight for equality is over so they can turn their attention elsewhere. While I never thought that myself, it took having children for me to see how far we still have to go.

I'm now recalling an article by Flora she wrote after her father's death.

She had asked for two of her fathers suits (saville row) and had taken them back to the tailor to have them adapted for her so she could wear them.

So I googled and there is a video.

I’m more concerned about why the DD of AA Gill and Amber Rudd gets the writing gig above other talented journalists. Same old. Same old. It’s the NAME that gets you in! So fed up with this!

I rate Amber Rudd btw. I think she got blasted for windrush that was her predecessors (Theresa May) fault.

Yes I think you’re right HarryHarry. They do think women have equality now, all the battles are over. I feel like some battles are just beginning and I worry far more for my daughter than I do for myself.

The video is revealing. I’m glad to have had the kind of dad that would never have commented on whether I looked amazing or not.

You have to be very naive and sheltered to not see where self-ID will end up.

It won't be a question of "a tiny minority" of men identifying as transwoman to nefariously access women's spaces. It will be every sexual predator that can get away with it, anyone who decides to troll for a laugh, and anyone who wants to take advantage of the space.

And then because of that, you will get husbands, fathers and brothers demanding access to women's facilities in order to protect their wives and daughters while they use the facilities.

In order to keep the situation under control, you'll end up with security guards in women's toilets and changing rooms in shopping centres, for example.

And this is what happens with unisex facilities. The unisex toilets at Fabric back in the day were monitored by security guards inside the toilets who funnelled biological sex to one end or the other, and hurried you in and out because there had been so much trouble in them.

Likewise, other fashionable toilets in trendy restaurants suffered the same problems. It's not just about voyeurism, but people using them to have sex as well.

And that's just toilets. Changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons, refuges are another kettle of fish entirely. Even HCPs and border guards are yet another issue again. Would Flora be okay with a self-ID TW border guard carrying out an intimate search on her at an airport? Does she not see that the vast majority of women would have a serious issue with that?

The practical application of this ideology in the real world would lead to consistent instances of public unrest and disorder. A law such as self-ID would fundamentally create consequences that would undermine and fracture the State. That Flora cannot apparently see this, as a 29 year old from an educated background with a mother in government, is frankly ludicrous.

Going off the point here but I think she looks great in her dad's suits. I've always loved the look of women who can carry off a man's suit - it pains me that I can't do it because my hips are too wide.

We all know that she wouldn't have got the writing gig if it hadn't been for who her parents were. I think she ought to put a bit more effort in, though. When you look at, say, the Corens, even though there is probably nepotism involved, they're still both pretty good writers.

All generations have the same rights and they were achieved when she was still at a posh school somewhere. This assumption that younger people are more moral than any other is really ageist and elitist. That's okay though I suppose.

Bless. She thinks that men have to ‘pretend’ to be women to assert their right to use the facilities where they feel most comfortable.

Not having a go at anyone as I understand why it's said. But I think it's an easy but incorrect answer.

Recent news re sexual assault and rape in private schools and schools doing nothing (same across all schools obv).

These girls/ women still go outside. Around the town, into bars clubs etc. In London irrespective of education the vast majority of people travel on public transport.

There is no way that they have not been exposed (no pun intended) to life enough not to know what men can be like.

Boyfriends push and coerce no matter who you are. CSA in the home does not vanish because of money.

Etc.

I went to private school and my friends and I experienced street harassment, men shouting stuff, flashers, and one a scary attempted rape while walking home.

I have a list of stuff as long as your arm.

It's nice to imagine that it's the reason but I don't buy it.

The depressing fact is they know full well- they've been girls, they will know things that have happened to their friends even if they lucky themselves.

Add in the monumentally entitled sexist attitude that plenty of their male counterparts will have who they will be mixing with if they go to posh balls parties etc. A young man in a black tie getup is still a young man.

Not having a go as I know why it's said but the awful truth is I don't think that's why women like this take this line.

And of course has privileged access to power, influence and the national press in order to promote her dangerous views that will impact on children and their safety. So many young women like her have been ideologically captured and with their privileged background have zero understanding or experience of the real issues that ordinary people have to navigate.
