I know there's loads going on at the moment, and Damian Barr is just one bearded misogynist in an increasingly dystopian world, but he's the one who kicked up a huge self-righteous fuss about Baroness Nicholson and got her ousted from her position at the Booker Prize on the grounds of homophobia and transphobia. Who would have imagined that such a zealous icon of ideological purity would turn out to have said things like this??

Barr doesn't hold any position with the Booker Prize. He's had associations with them in the past but I don't think there's been more than that.

It's so incredibly transparent that this is just a crusade against women. They aren't even pretending to give a shit about this guy's transphobia. With the likes of Shon Faye I was honestly expecting something along the lines of 'he's disappointing' or 'this transphobic language is unacceptable.' But no! Because this dude is a friend, he's being defended to the hilt. The weird thing is that Shon is framing this as an attack by transphobes on poor sweet Damian. Suddenly the TRAS are overflowing vessels of forgiveness and understanding - it was completely fine to use this slur seven years ago. In fact the 'transphobes' are the evil ones for trying to 'shame' Damian! (Although I highly doubt that seven years ago it was acceptable to make fun of someone trying to commit suicide. When I was growing up, it was women are 'slags' - men are studs.
