I know there's loads going on at the moment, and Damian Barr is just one bearded misogynist in an increasingly dystopian world, but he's the one who kicked up a huge self-righteous fuss about Baroness Nicholson and got her ousted from her position at the Booker Prize on the grounds of homophobia and transphobia. Who would have imagined that such a zealous icon of ideological purity would turn out to have said things like this??

Of course he’ll get away with it! It’s only women who have to be nice. Where’s the fun in telling men to choke on a dick? It’s probably worth another airing of the observation that it’s not actual transphobia that really gets the monitors in a tizzy, such as that displayed by Damians vile tweets. It’s women talking about women’s rights that does it. Which is why it’s Mumsnet in the firing line and not datalounge or kiwifarms.

Yes. The distinct lack of care from loud transactivists over this compared to the reaction to JKR's mild tweets is very telling.

They aren't actually interested in transphobia just the ability to attack and erase women and our rights.

1. He's a bloke and they don't go after blokes. Kiwi F, and if course the men in real life who actually attack people.
2. He's on 'their side' so it won't even register
3. Loads of people have said awful stuff. Harrop and Dr thingy agreeing that you can't view children getting married 'over there' the same as you can 'here'. MB and all that stuff about lesbians. Then all the masses of people using threats of sexual violence'against women who step out of line etc etc. They don't care. Why on earth not?

And it's so depressing as we could have been natural allies. Repressive gender roles and male violence are key issues for feminists.

I bet Munroe will forgive him. He’s a gay man and Munroe understands the ‘humour’ and the cruel, cutting, bitchiness that only gay men and drag queens can get away with. Munroe spoke like him once (hairy, barren dyke anyone?) But women saying stuff like that and it’s all suddenly so hurtful and bullying because women are bitches. Except Munroe isn’t. They are a glowing, beautiful Goddess who ‘protects trans children’. The rest of us are supremacist hags always banging on about our wombs and vaginas like they’re an important part of being a woman - how utterly ridiculous!

I’ve met Damian Barr and read Maggie and Me and loved it and liked him. He’s funny and witty and I was disappointed to hear him say what he did. I sort of understood, as I’ve said before, how a gay man would be against a Tory who voted against gay marriage. These Tweets will cause him major discomfort.
