I know there's loads going on at the moment, and Damian Barr is just one bearded misogynist in an increasingly dystopian world, but he's the one who kicked up a huge self-righteous fuss about Baroness Nicholson and got her ousted from her position at the Booker Prize on the grounds of homophobia and transphobia. Who would have imagined that such a zealous icon of ideological purity would turn out to have said things like this??

He is a truly odious person. The lack of self awareness to accuse the Baroness of homophobia, when he himself had done much worse is breathtaking.

Slightly different article and no comments, even though I’ve commented and can see others writing. Hmmmmmmmmm.

No mention inthe Times of his language towards women. It appears to be irrelevent. Also the mocking of a suicide attempt wasn't mentioned. Only his use of the word tr*nny.

This was my message, it got one like and then disappeared. The whole time I was composing it I could see others writing too. Perhaps a glitch or mods checking them?

How odd - some ‘on the fly’ editing going on. There is a very similar article printing yesterday by Marc someone that is still there with 200 comments so maybe some commenters here commented on that one?

There is one comment from the Times saying there may be a delay in comments appearing. Presumably they are being moderated before appearing online?

They took his name off the headline, Serenity? And removed The Savoy? Someone has had a word...

What does their headline for the coverage of the Baroness say?

On the other hand, the first headline suggests it might not have been ‘transphobic’ with the quotes, the second is more definite it was.

When you search on articles re. Damian the original headline is still there to view

Anyway. I hope he - and his buddies - just learns a lesson. Live by the sword etc.

I've been very grateful to the Times commenters over the last couple of weeks, with the coverage of the Booker shitshow particularly. The articles often seem to be good at presenting the facts (and it's great that they get covered - contrast the pitiful Guardian) but it the actual analysis of them, and the logical conclusions, appears in the comments.

No hate. No 'phobia'. Just joining the dots.

The tunes is generally decent about these things. Maybe because they have actual grown up journalists rather than social media brats writing for them?

I love the way his excuse is that his tweets were "flippant, not malicious". Yet somehow he is certain that Baroness Nicholson's tweets were malicious, not flippant.....

All in the eyes if the reader...

He says ‘flippant’, I say insulting, dehumanising and offensive.

Framing the sharing of his own transphobic tweets as being aimed at hurting the trans community is him trying to be Teflon, isn't it?

"Don't blame the source, blame the messenger!"

And nobody seems to be addressing the virulent misogyny and ageism in those tweets.
