Roderic O Gorman has a tweet from 2018 showing him looking very happy to be with PT at Dublin Pride. I am writing to my local TD as well as opposition Party members to question his support of such a person.
Any Irish person want to follow suit?

Oh, that's creepy!

MadamBatty · 01/07/2020 06:38

i’m in, I’m not on twitter. Can you provide a link?

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 01/07/2020 07:49

I thought this might not be accurate OP.
But,

I have done a Google check on Peter Tatchell. All that's coming up is MP and human rights campaigner. What am I missing?

Has he wiped clean his MAP history?

Not all wiped, thank god

Safe schools alliance on PT.

In the past he has promoted paedophilia. Said that 9 year olds were capable of enjoying sexual relationships with adults.

gardenbird48 · 01/07/2020 09:09

Try googling his name with PIE - he’s rather a fan of ideas about sex with very young people and published a shocking interview with an obviously very damaged young person describing their sexual abuse as a six year old as an argument for sex with young people. He’s been very open about it. Hope we don’t see any further adverse developments in the laws in Ireland.

gardenbird48 · 01/07/2020 09:13

I stand corrected - it was 9 yr kids - I was mixing up with the 6yr old sex being promoted in the recommended reading by Asda for 11+ in their home learning packs. These have now been updated and the ceo of Asda is hopefully investigating, having apologised that the packs for younger kids also contained a promotional slogan used by PIE previously.

Ugh, I wouldn't be linking anything from politicalirish, they are a really unpleasant racist homophobic site.

Still, it's concerning and worth a letter to your TD and local Green Party reps. I have no idea what credentials Roderic O'Gorman has to be minister for children, but then a ragbag "Ministry for Children, Disability, Equality and Integration" doesn't sound like it places great importance on any of these totally disparate things.

ShiveringCoyote · 01/07/2020 09:55

Sorry I do apologise for posting and disappearing, workplace crisises (crisii? Crisis?) aplenty this morning.
PT has advocated lowering the age of consent and written of 9 year olds having enjoyable relationships with adults. These were not secret or rumoured views of PT.

I agree @irishfeminist, surely people with disabilities deserve their own TD. They have far reaching issues such as employment, education, housing, benefits and healthcare.

PT is on BBC frequently.

While PT has been involved in all kinds of disturbing activism most people are unaware of this.

I was very aware of the attempted infiltration of the LGB rights movement by the PIE but was, for many years, unaware of PT's involvement, largely I think because of my involvement with AIDS activism in which PT was a prominent figure (ACTUP IMMIC)

Also at that time the age of consent for gay men was 21 and for heterosexuals was 16. Many decent people campaigned to lower the age of consent for gay males but were also opposed to paedophiles.

Germaine Greer, for example, has expressed views and even published a book that endorses paedophillia. Most feminists seem unaware of this.

While it is important to identify paedophile networks and prevent their infiltration of statutory bodies and activist groups we have to be extremely careful not to shame people for not knowing everything about everyone they associate with or whose books they read.

teaandtoast123 · 01/07/2020 10:17

Thanks. Looking at that tweet I can only imagine he wasn't aware. Still it is not a good look for a Minister for Children.

OldCrone · 01/07/2020 10:31

PT thinks that a child of 12 having sex with men isn't being abused if the child enjoys it.

I feel nauseous reading that. How is this man still an MP.?And why does Roderic O"Gorman still have that tweet up? He has had 2 years to take it down. Taking it down now would be a CYA move.

Aerielview · 01/07/2020 10:50

@irishfeminist At least they have the guts to highlight it - do you see any newspapers mentioning it??

NotBadConsidering · 01/07/2020 10:55

”The positive nature of some child-adult sexual relationships is not confined to non-Western cultures. Several of my friends - gay and straight, male and female - had sex with adults from the ages of nine to 13. None feel they were abused. All say it was their conscious choice and gave them great joy. While it may be impossible to condone paedophilia, it is time society acknowledged the truth that not all sex involving children is unwanted, abusive and harmful.”

Peter Tatchell, letter to Guardian, 1997.

Please would you link to the title of the book? TIA.

irishfeminist · 01/07/2020 11:03

Aerialview I don't know how much by way of "guts" it takes as they aren't mainstream and face neither praise nor sanction for mentioning it. They're the Irish equivalent of Stormfront. Most posters on that site have horrible views on women and gay people and are deeply racist. The Peter Tatchell link is worth attention but linking to politicalirish is not really the place to be promoting by posting a link to them.

I think this is the book - it's called The Boy...

Aerielview · 01/07/2020 11:24

@irishfeminist I don't endorse their views, never heard of them before. I did a Google search on O' Gorman's link to Tatchell and their article is the only one that came up. Which says something about our media, don't you think?
