They will not rest until every disobedient woman is purged from society.

Marlon James is calling for public condemnation. I see.

His erasure? Of what? Who even is he? Off to google ...

JemimaShore · 25/06/2020 10:34

and condemn HER

How chilling. "Burn the Witch!!"

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/06/2020 10:45

Marlon James is American. Getting quite tired of American men wading into UK issues and demanding the heads of UK women.

OvaHere · 25/06/2020 10:47

Yes this.

Lamahaha · 25/06/2020 10:48

Thanks Merrymouse. It's all far less confusing now -- the Times quote made no sense. What an extraordinary statement from an author!
Indeed: Burn the Witch!
I never liked Marlon James, what I read of and about him -- there was something extremely misogynistic about him. Seems my instinct was correct.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 10:49

He seems to still have Jamaican nationality, although living in America.

Maybe, like many Americans, he is viewing this from an American point of view and thinks there is an active campaign to end same sex marriage in the UK?

Lamahaha · 25/06/2020 10:49

Marlon James is actually Jamaican and grew up in Jamaica. That's the culture he professes to identify with -- or once did.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/06/2020 10:56

Fuck only knows. His words don't make any sense. Just seems to be random anger, splurged out at any older woman he deems unsatisfactory.

Apollo440 · 25/06/2020 10:57

It's quite clear that by cancelling her on this issue they can disregard her entirely from all other issues. They will point to this and say it is unacceptable to deal with a known homophobe and as if by magic all the criticism of self id and puberty blockers can be ignored. Cancel culture at its most sinister.

Part of a review of Marlon James' work from a self-confessed fanboy.

This is how they've been trying to frame it I think. Rather than what it actually is - a Baroness taking part in a democratic vote in the House of Lords - along with many others - many years ago.

It's another campaign of misinformation.

Are they going to root out every Lord who voted against it? No of course they're not.

ZarkingBell · 25/06/2020 11:00

Baroness Nicholson only had the role because she was married to the boss. Hardly something she had achieved through her greatness in publishing.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 11:01

For comparison, look how politely Lord Faulkner, Lord Cashman and the Bishop of Chelmsford discussed same sex marriage exemptions and the C of E, just last year.

AbsintheFriends · 25/06/2020 11:02

I am finding it hard to see through the red mist on this one. It's my industry and I'm sickened by the pandering and the virtue-signalling hypocrisy, and my own inability to say anything.

To be openly ageist and sexist seems to be the new way of signalling wokeness.

It's shameful and disturbing.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 11:03

So remove her for that reason, not because of twatter.

Oh, gosh, who would have thought it. Sounds lovely and definitely makes sense. This is a man who denounces as a 'hate monger' a woman who has spent a lifetime working for the assistance of women and children.
ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/06/2020 11:09

Absinthe, I hear you. My industry too, or used to be. It's horrible watching it dismantle itself like this. It's almost like somebody had planned the best way to quell freedom of thought and speech.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 11:10

From the Guardian:

"Barr, a novelist, memoirist and host of the Literary Salon, learned of her association with the prize earlier this week, after Munroe Bergdorf, the model and transgender activist, said she was referring Nicholson to the Parliamentary Standards Conduct Commissioner over Nicholson’s posts on social media about the trans community. The peer also drew fire earlier this month over her views on same-sex marriage.

Barr immediately challenged the Booker on Twitter, writing that “as a gay writer I feel very concerned that a person who is actively and publicly propagating homophobic views holds a position of such power & prestige in your rightly esteemed organisation”.

There isn't even a pretence of understanding the wider issues.

Damian Barr reads a tweet and the witch hunt starts.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 11:13

Am I right in thinking that this all happened over the space of 2 or 3 days?

OvaHere · 25/06/2020 11:14

They can't actually cancel her though. Sure they can get a few orgs like The Booker to distance themselves but ultimately she's a life peer so they're stuck with her.

Now maybe a concerted effort will be launched to do away with the HoL. A lot of people don't agree with the system.

I'm okay with that too because it means we'd also lose the new Baroness Hunt.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 25/06/2020 11:14

It's Witch of the Week!

Who will be put to the flames this time?

All prior words, thoughts and deeds to be scrupulously examined and if anything can possibly be misconstrued and used against you, better watch out, ladies! You will be publically condemned by order of men who know better than you!

All in all, best stay indoors and stay quiet, eh? 'Shut mouth, open purse', wasn't it?

Good girl.

Collidascope · 25/06/2020 11:18

For God's sake, Patrick Gale too. Another gay man and one of the few male authors I liked, but he decided to stick the boot into JK Rowling when she first tweeted, and here he is again now.

This is how it is now. Mass pile ons organised through twitter and complaints everywhere until women are removed, deplatformed, unemployed etc. And their voices silenced on twitter which is where all this crap starts. Time to move off twitter. Get on to parler. It supports free speech, women can talk and organise, and the power these individuals have through the backing of twitter will diminish. Hopefully as parler takes off twitter will be a thing of the past.

RoyalCorgi · 25/06/2020 11:24

I used to like Patrick Gale too. Oh well. It's become less and less surprising to me that men I previously thought were liberal-minded and progressive turn out to be raging misogynists.
