AIBU to think you should write to the Body Shop's CEO about their transphobia?

Apparently it makes sense to treat men's skin with targeted grooming products, because "men" have special skin. Also Apparently "Men" have beards which we all know is crazy because TW and non binary people have beards and transmen don't.

It makes sense to treat men's skin with targeted male grooming products. The Body Shop® has developed an extensive range for Men’s skincare specifically designed to help you cleanse, shave and protect. Ingredients include Maca Root, a rich source of skin minerals and nutrients, and community trade Brazil Nut oil

^Look at this, look at it. The bastards.

Even this here which claims beard oil is for men

Anyway if you want to write them about their terrible transphobia or their fucking hypocrisy you can write their CEO here

They've gone bust so why bother?

OvaHere · 14/06/2020 21:42

@DPotter

They've gone bust so why bother?
Have they?
ShinyFootball · 14/06/2020 21:42

Have they gone bust? I can't see anything on Google, do you have a link?

HermionesMom · 14/06/2020 21:43

Links? because Google seems unaware of it

They belong to Natura now but I don’t see anything on their site saying the brand no longer exists.

DPotter · 14/06/2020 21:45

I'd heard they had gone 'into administration'

LockdownLump · 14/06/2020 22:02

Wow. The hypocrisy is sickening.

Have they? Oh dear. What a shame.
Roseburn · 14/06/2020 22:10

actually, I'm pretty sure they haven't.

Voice0fReason · 14/06/2020 22:30

It's such double standards.
They are a misogynistic bunch and I definitely won't be shopping there again.

FreeKitties · 14/06/2020 22:43

I really hope they do go bust, then other businesses might question the wisdom of alienating your main customer base in order to get some likes on twitter.

Also it might make businesses rethink how sexist they actually are.

We spent years campaigning to be recognised as women - capable, clever, creative, funny, inspirational, hard working, and those fuckers (men) have trying to erase all of that. Fuck them we aren’t going anywhere.

(No i don’t normally swear on threads but I’ve had some wine !!)

Nah they got bought up when they went into admin a couple of years ago. www.insider.co.uk/news/body-shop-chain-set-sold-10593493
saveeno · 14/06/2020 23:20

Does anyone really give a flying fuck.

FreeKitties · 15/06/2020 07:19

What an oddly aggressive post. If you don’t agree then why not say why?

TirisfalPumpkin · 15/06/2020 07:26

Nah, this is a common misconception back from when trans activism was still pretending not to be a men’s’ rights movement. Now we have men’s facilities and inclusive facilities, manhood and inclusive womanhood, why not men’s skincare and skincare for everyone?

Aside: anyone know a good dupe for the hemp hand cream? It’s great on my dried up old hag hands but I find myself reluctant to give them any more money.

Lamahaha · 15/06/2020 07:31

Tirisfal I haven't used anything but organic coconut oil on my skin for the last 30 years. It's fantastic, both for face and hands.

Ploppymoodypants · 15/06/2020 07:31

I’m more upset at the founder selling out to proctor and gamble!! Unbelievable.
I’ve never bought anything from them since.

Ferrylass · 15/06/2020 07:42

But men's skin is different from women's so...🤷‍♀️

Yes. But The Body Shop had a go at J K Rowling for saying that biology is a thing. Ergo if they now talk about 'men's' skin, then by their own rules they're being transphobic.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/06/2020 07:55

Yes, they put out an appallingly misplaced smug and patronising tweet aimed at JKR about a self-care package of period products or similar. I saw on Twitter a claim that the words woman, woman's, women's and women no longer show up on a search on The Body Shop website but man, man's, men's and men are all still there. I can't look for myself as I'm keen to keep my eyeballs in their sockets.

HermionesMom · 15/06/2020 08:00

@Ferrylass TBS don't believe that menstruation is female. So how can they say skin and beards are male?

AIBU to think you should write to the Body Shop's CEO about their transphobia?
OP posts:
HermionesMom · 15/06/2020 08:03

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g they do have a "women's" section but it's things like perfume, which actually don't need to be in gender specific groups as anyone of any sex can wear them. So they've basically divided it into "lady smells" and "manly smells" which is fairly trans friendly but to actually say beards are for men. Well, that's another thing entirely.

True story

AIBU to think you should write to the Body Shop's CEO about their transphobia?
Ferrylass · 15/06/2020 08:13

Ah ok, missed that! I'm not on Twitter...it would make me too angry ha!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/06/2020 08:40

It's so obvious what's gone on here, isn't it.

Somebody senior says to whoever does the grunt work of updating the website 'We can't say periods are anything to do with women or female any more. It's transexclusionary. Can you go through and change it all to gender neutral language? People who menstruate, menstruators, that kind thing.'

Grunt: OK, what about shaving products? We've got all of those labelled as men's.

Senior: No problem there. Transmen are men, so all the people with facial hair are men.

Grunt: And perfume? We say that's for women.

Senior: No problem there either. Only people who identify as women wear perfume. Transwomen are women, so that's all fine too. It's body parts that are the problem. Next thing to move onto is products for new mums. Make sure we never say women or female there either. Chestfeeders, birthers, pregnant people, that kind of thing.
