Mermaids need more money, apparently. Quite where the rest has gone I can’t imagine.

Aaah so that's where they all are...

See theres a surprise guest in the comments Grin

littlbrowndog · 04/04/2020 14:41

The harrop donated 500£

R0wantrees · 04/04/2020 14:43

So he could be on Mermaids TV?

WootMoggie · 04/04/2020 18:34

Sex Shops and Sex Toys.

Are these really suitable subjects for the guests to be laughing about on Mermaids DigiFest (yes, I've just been watching). And one of the guests has a comedienne friend who's made a great movie about Hazing apparently.

Immediately after making comments about Sex Toys, the guests was asked by Jake and Hannah if they had any advice for "all the kids watching".

At least there were only 332 viewers.

WootMoggie · 04/04/2020 18:37
  • oh, and the list of "recommended channels" down the left hand side were populated with violent video game channels.

Thought these people wanted "safe spaces"?

Datun · 04/04/2020 18:40

Dear god.

Datun · 04/04/2020 18:41

Immediately after making comments about Sex Toys, the guests was asked by Jake and Hannah if they had any advice for "all the kids watching".

Ugh.

It is, sunlight, though.

Although I do think that sometimes even with the curtains wide bloody open, people aren't actually seeing the illumination. But, fortunately, they do in the end.

Sowerehere · 04/04/2020 21:27

A very creepy slothhead person on dividers now - casey something - sounds like an adult?

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 04/04/2020 21:47

Sarah Stuart's thread was up to her usual standards. I don't know how she stands doing the reportage on face to face events like this.

LizzieSiddal · 04/04/2020 22:35

I see mermaids have had to cancel all their training sessions. Every cloud has a silver lining.

That is bloody brilliant news.

I0NA · 04/04/2020 23:05

From Mermaids website

So GNC kids still get to be .....GNC kids. For a few more months anyway.

teawamutu · 04/04/2020 23:09

I don't have twitch and don't propose to start now, but the clips mostly didn't top 100 views. Is that just a web thing and the app did better, or did DigiFest fall flat on its ass?

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 04/04/2020 23:25

Telethons are a dying art form, ain't they? Even Comic Relief and Children in Need are creaking with the effort of filling an entire evening with waffle punctuated by two minute 'special' skits of well known soaps and costume dramas.

Mermaids drumming up excitement for Jeffrey Marsh doing a 'meditation' and then arrogantly talking over a young TM is barely going to register.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 04/04/2020 23:31

They said they raised £11,000
Money raised to target children.

Utterly shameless

teawamutu · 04/04/2020 23:48

Interesting given hbomberwhatsit raised £300k ish.

SarahTancredi · 05/04/2020 00:14

11000 is nothing really. I mean it would be if you were trying to cover court fees or a holiday but not for wide scale work...

Mind u at the same time presumably they have almost zero expenses given they just need a couple of people on a phone/lap top right now.

So what it going on?

SarahTancredi · 05/04/2020 00:17

and 332 views ?

3 of those were harrop susie and MM ...

That cant have been it

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 05/04/2020 00:19

In terms of the afore-mentioned telethons, £11,000 is basically the head of Natwest, Banbury coming on the breakaway local segment with an oversized cardboard cheque and looking awkward before cutting back to London where John Barrowman is waving his cock around again.

Butterymuffin · 05/04/2020 00:23

Hadn't thought about this but yes - all the workplaces they do training for are the kind where staff will now have been sent home to work. Schools are closed. And training like this will not be a high priority when the lockdown ends and companies have to get back on their feet. Indeed a silver lining.

DidoLamenting · 05/04/2020 01:37

I didn't spend any time on it but the little I saw was pretty dull and there didn't seem to be much activity. £11,000 seems a lot.

WootMoggie · 05/04/2020 02:43

Not considering that £4850 of it came from one single anonymous donation (why not £5k on-the-dot? Very odd)

bettybeans · 05/04/2020 04:18

Most training sessions at corporates will be paid for by the company they visit. Travel expenses often included.

£11k pushes them just over the £10k they said they wanted. Modest amount, can't be seen to show a loss on target, especially during captive audience lockdown. Not a chance they'd put that much effort into getting just a few grand. They wanted waaaaay more than that. Oh well.

MrsToddsShortcut · 05/04/2020 07:36

What happened to Russell Tovey? He was the biggest 'name' they originally had on the line up and he abruptly disappeared. His Twitter account still posting yesterday, but no mention of it at all and he disappeared from the line up. But no apologies, no 'sorry won't be appearing as ill' type announcements. Wonder if he had second thoughts?

I0NA · 05/04/2020 07:57

Maybe he did due diligence ?

Butterymuffin · 05/04/2020 10:27

Is there some rule about disclosing donations over £5K that would explain someone giving £4850?
