Can’t stand Piers Morgan.

Awning10 · 11/03/2020 07:30

Thanks, watching - just switched over from BBC.

frazzled1 · 11/03/2020 07:31

but he asks the questions that others won't. And received the usual 'it's complicated' answer to a simple question. Now asking if a non trans person can play a trans role. (TW playing a woman in a play objecting to a male non trans actor playing a trans role).

Don't have to agree with Piers in everything to appreciate him shining a light.

He's not letting this go which is brilliant. Dr Hilary was very clear about the long term advantages that male bodies have over women even after transition. The sports issue is so clear and the body language of those trying to defend the indefensible is fascinating to watch.

Humphriescushion · 11/03/2020 07:41

Was watching and while i normally cant watch piers morgan, have to thank him for saying it like it is!

I normally lurk on these threads and would like to thank you all for fighting for this.

Kit19 · 11/03/2020 07:42

I can’t stand PM either but he’s right on this & he won’t back down either

definitelygc · 11/03/2020 07:47

Wow Piers Morgan really is going in hard, day after day on this issue. I suspect the main reason is that he's having a fabulous time making all the people who would normally call him an idiot look like idiots.

Kit19 · 11/03/2020 07:49

I might be making no sense with my ramblings but I do wonder sometimes with the sport thing whether the TRA and woke allies are caught in a gender stereotype net of their own making

Women who do sport are often viewed as masculine or butch, not proper women really, all that running about getting sweaty urgh amirite?
TRA see being a woman as pink frilly feminine make up & hair. I mean who wants to transition only to look - gasp - unfeminine?

I think a lot of them didnt see this one coming because the just can’t get their head around the fact women do sport at all

eurochick · 11/03/2020 07:52

Out of all the tv presenters around it seems we are having to rely on Oiers Morgan to publicly take a stand for women's rights. Let that sink in for a moment.

How the hell did we get here?

LizziesTwin · 11/03/2020 07:55

I think a lot of men don’t think of women as being actual living humans with ideas & rights of their own. It sounds ridiculous but why else are we being lectured by men to let men into our spaces?

Languishingfemale · 11/03/2020 07:55

eurochick
Presumably he's both powerful and wealthy enough not to worry about criticism? He's not scared of all the bullies trying to bring him down? And he enjoys a fight.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 11/03/2020 07:58

I don’t care who talks about this subject anymore. Kim Jong Il can stand up and say men shouldn’t play in women’s sports and I would applaud him.
Women have been sold out by every right on fucker in the country. I’m happy to share a platform with Piers or Spiked or anyone. My views and values might divert with them on other things but this is where we are. In times of war, who cares where the soldiers come from.

Babdoc · 11/03/2020 08:03

Very much a case of “My enemy’s enemy is my friend”, eh!
It’s a measure of how much the TRAs have intimidated all the “nice” people into silence, when we have to rely on the few fearless pitbulls to stand up for us and with us.

definitelygc · 11/03/2020 08:04

That might be right but actually the more I talk to TRAs the more I think that they just believe anything that's pro-trans rights and are against anything they are told is anti-trans. I think it's that simple for many of them. Male bodies in women's sports = trans rights. People in masks and hoods shouting fuck terfs = trans rights. Male rapists in women's prisons = trans rights. Then there's a whole load of nonsensical justification and logical leaps to explain how they've arrived at their viewpoint. It really is cult-like thinking. Don't ask, don't question.

Not only that, but the champion of our right to speak for ourselves about this is.......Toby Young.

Strange times indeed.

DickKerrLadies · 11/03/2020 08:22

Piers Morgan was also vocal on gun control in the US - are we allowed to agree with him on that too or should I be signing up for the NRA?

I can't watch it though because I value my TV too much to throw something at it.

NymphadoraBonks · 11/03/2020 08:25

I disagree with PM on some things and agree with him on others and I think he’s fab on this issue.

zanahoria · 11/03/2020 08:38

He knows he has resonance with viewers on this one, he has spotted there is a huge gulf between the opinions of ordinary people and the politic class and he is prepared to beat them with it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/03/2020 08:42

This is where I am with it too.

lucasthecat · 11/03/2020 08:43

Not only was PM pro gun control in the US - he edited the anti Iraq War paper, the mirror, voted remain and said he would have voted Hilary in the last US election - People paint him as a frothing right wing nut job - he clearly isn’t - He has a very blunt no nonsense style - which grates against people who want to give bland non answers and move on. He regularly calls out Boris - for hiding from him in a fridge

AnotherNightWatering · 11/03/2020 09:35

I haven't seen today's one yet, but I was really impressed yesterday that:
a) PM knew his stuff
b) actually heard what Lisa Nandy said, and challenged her "answers" with relevant points - even if he did talk over her
Too often she's been allowed to waffle on unchallenged about her one trans constituent - and I certainly agree on her point that that person needs better mental health care, although not for the reasons that she does.

Danceswithwarthogs · 11/03/2020 12:15

Just wish he would give up his disgusting Megan Markle vendetta... but that’s a WHOLE different thread

Goosefoot · 11/03/2020 12:54

Yes. I have a friend like this (a women as it happens.) Utterly incapable of thinking beyond that level, of seeing a logical contradiction. Utterly incapable of realising that she only accepts facts from organisations that give the facts she likes. Utterly convinced she is on the side of logic, reason, and justice.

zanahoria · 11/03/2020 13:34

I don't like Piers

but I love the questions he asks

Langsdestiny · 11/03/2020 13:43

I think they cant admit to the advantages in sport because then the house of cards starts to fall, if biology matters in sport why wouldn't it also matter in refuges, in prisons, etc. If you admit the problems in sport you are saying that transwomen are somehow different to women, and why are they different? - well the answer to that is problematic for them.
