Interesting guest list!

I'm quite pissed off about this. I was looking forward to seeing Hayden speak here. I see Debbie Hayton offered themselves up as a spokesperson instead. Debbie's always on. Time to step aside and let some of these other characters speak Debbie. You're not the only transperson and I wanted to see one of the more controversial characters speak. Trying to get them deplatformed is very poor.

zanahoria · 01/03/2020 11:10

I had forgotten how much I hated this programme but Nicky Campbell's intro was a quick reminder

zanahoria · 01/03/2020 11:13

Spiked are good on trans issues but generally just contrarian and tedious, the BBC seem to have them on speed dial to provide an 'alternative' view

SoldiersinPetticoats · 01/03/2020 11:15

Nice one Rosa for saying sex pay gap rather than gender pay gap 👏🏼

Helmetbymidnight · 01/03/2020 11:16

why are they saying 'gender pay gap' i dont get it?

god ol rosa- fluent and consistently makes sense.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:17

Hilarious editing decision then - quick! She mentioned black peoples underepresentation! Cut to a section of the audience where a group of black women are listening thoughtfully!

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/03/2020 11:21

Sorry I'm a bit dim this weekend as we've had a pox ridden house hold.

Why was the flying lawyer invited on this programme about homelessness anyway?

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:21

Who is Sarah with her what-about-the-menz? Claiming abortion is infanticide?

Helmetbymidnight · 01/03/2020 11:22

its about all sorts of random stuff i think- never seen it before

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/03/2020 11:22

Oh right sorry it's their 'specialism.'

Who'd a thunk it.

EwwSprouts · 01/03/2020 11:22

HelenPankhurst - great-grandaughter of Emmeline. I don’t know if she has expressed a public opinion on whether she believes TWAW and I think tends to be wheeled out to talk more about legacy and heritage more than anything else.

Went to a talk by her last year. She's definitely up to date and advocating on a range of current issues.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/03/2020 11:23

yes helen pankhurst is very good.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:24

Thanks Sprouts. I’ve only ever seen her asked about centenaries and commemorations and references to her family. But like I said bought her book and not read it yet :-)

zanahoria · 01/03/2020 11:24

this programme always seems to be a bunch of random views with Nicky Campbell sticking his oar in with his 'reasonable man' routine whenever anyone says anything mildly controversial, not a good look when it is about women's rights.

zanahoria · 01/03/2020 11:26

God has shown up now

Helmetbymidnight · 01/03/2020 11:27

blaming women in the third world for their problems? a weird look nicky.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:27

Oh, ask the only black guest about FGM, Nicky, nice, and blame women for ‘perpetrating’ it as well.

FloralBunting · 01/03/2020 11:28

Just interjecting to say, I'm not watching as Campbell is far too smug for me, and I get irritated with the format, but I am enjoying the commentary here.

Violetparis · 01/03/2020 11:29

Awful debate, just shouting at each other.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:29

Rosa stifling her urge to laugh out loud at Sarah’s ridiculous claims about infanticide again

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 11:31

Lovely to see the camaraderie between Rosa, Shola and the woman from Shelter at the end there whilst the Christian anti-choice woman was still ranting

zanahoria · 01/03/2020 11:35

there is no structure to the debate

Campbell just stirs the pot, people get frustrated then he talks down to them

Strangerthantruth · 01/03/2020 11:40

Quite a good debate actually, bearing in mind the limitations of the format.

Hayden would be completely irrelevant to the discussion for obvious reasons, glad the conversation was not about fucking trans for once, sick of hearing about them, nor does the conversation benefit in any way by having to go down that tedious dead end. The GRA review is dead, it's a relief to not hear about it.

ShiveringCoyote · 01/03/2020 11:43

I just knew the lawyer wouldn't appear. Had a feeling in my waters.

boatyardblues · 01/03/2020 11:46

Shola was impressive and I liked her “taking no prisoners” approach. She and Rosa were great together - so clear and unequivocal about the issues. The “what about the menz” Christian poet was hugely annoying, especially because she kept talking over everyone else but wasn’t making any new points.
