Have just seen this on facebook and am totally taken aback. She is listed as a speaker here www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/womens-liberation-at-50-tickets-75905313837

Everyone of the other speaker if they go ahead and dont protest should be totally ashamed of themselves.

This is her tweet twitter.com/selina_todd/status/1233456777057964035

Some of the women speaking are those I have told I should and I do admire.

This sickness that is dividing women is so upsetting.

Not sure where or how we can show our disgust at this and make sure they know they do not speak for women.

There's a non official video here:

In which you can here the audience members properly. Julie Bindel is one of the objectors, but hearteningly there are others.

JulesJules · 29/02/2020 17:07

These bits are from Julie Bindel's twitter

X-post!

littlbrowndog · 29/02/2020 17:27

Cheers Julie

That erm pack of drivel from Lola . Blah blah blah

Just shows how far away and how elitist these women are
Not a fucking clue about the lives of ordinary women. Not a fucking clue when they can write stuff like that.

Bringbacklang · 29/02/2020 17:34

Just watched it. What a bunch of lying cowards.

Bringbacklang · 29/02/2020 17:37

It makes the organisers look really bad. Well done to the women who spoke up.

SunsetBeetch · 29/02/2020 17:44

Noami Wolf weighs in Confused

"Absolutely everyone should stand with Dr Todd and against any deplatforming ever. But UK reporters should ALSO really look into how right wing US lobbyists are funding and promoting dissension between trans women and other feminists in the UK as a tactic to fragment the left."

EverardDigby · 29/02/2020 17:46

Because of course us little ladies can't possibly form an opinion independently on our own Hmm.

GCAcademic · 29/02/2020 17:46

Naomi Wolf is mainly known for playing fast and loose with facts.

littlbrowndog · 29/02/2020 17:47

I just watched it as well

The organisers. Omg.

How do they expect young feminist s when watching this to get involved when they have seen this shit show and cowardly behaviour

EverardDigby · 29/02/2020 17:48

And Lola's statement about us all being white and middle class. AAARGH! Racist and classist. Drives me nuts.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 29/02/2020 17:50

ALSO really look into how right wing US lobbyists are funding and promoting dissension between trans women and other feminists in the UK as a tactic to fragment the left."

Well they must be funding the transwomen then because we’re all doing our own crowdfunding!

Binterested · 29/02/2020 17:51

I am white and middle class. And a woman. Like black women, working class women, German women, disabled women.

I am like all these women in my womanhood.

I am not like a TW.

littlbrowndog · 29/02/2020 17:53

Julie bindel is truly awesome. 🥰🥰🥰

Newuser123123 · 29/02/2020 18:04

They just cut the livestream as they were asking for final comments

aliasundercover · 29/02/2020 18:05

I'm surprised that Naomi Wolf has the nerve to say anything at all in public these days.
If I were her I think I'd keep my head down for at least a decade.

morningtoncrescent62 · 29/02/2020 18:07

Anyone else feel a bit tearful watching and listening to Julie Bindel fighting Selina's corner? Now that's what I call sisterly solidarity.

Binterested · 29/02/2020 18:08

I have a crush on Julie Grin

EverardDigby · 29/02/2020 18:09

The other woman who spoke out was great too, well done to her.

Bringbacklang · 29/02/2020 18:15

I must admit the whole video reminded me of this.

Selina Todd has been disinvited from "Women's Liberation at 50" because of association with WPUK
ThePurported · 29/02/2020 18:19

Naomi can keep her meninism and 'facts'. There is absolutely no need for her to lecture UK journalists, they are already so well trained by TRA lobbyists that they report male crimes as female crimes on the say-so of the criminal, including paedophiles and rapists. If they had any evidence of feminists being funded by US lobbyists, we would know about it.

ReinstateLangCleg · 29/02/2020 18:29

Watching the opening again. It does make a difference to be able to see the audience.

Trying my level best to sympathise this time, not be so critical of other women when they're working in difficult circumstances and trying to organise something....

But fuck me.

This was just SO BAD.

Thank you to the women who could still stomach going in order to speak up for Selina Todd and WPUK. What a hollow "Women's Liberation" conference. I've a very unpleasant taste in my mouth about the whole thing.

pombear · 29/02/2020 18:29

There's a fascinating bit of the day, just before the two women from the Young Women's Music Project are up.

During the break, they don't seem to realise they're mic-ed up and can be heard on the livestream.

Their musings turn to discussing the clothes and the look of the conference attendees:-

  • that tache, that jumper yeah, but at least it's clean
  • mum vibe so many of them have a certain look
  • my Mum should look awful for what she's been through, she should look haggard like her sister, but she doesn't

And how they think they'll be at 60 themselves.

  • I won't start acting any different...I won't start shopping at M & S
  • but some of them look cool

Ironically one of them says someone they're looking at is look, so judgey, looking at everyone else - though I suppose you don't know what's going on in people's heads

It's a fascinating unintended brief window into that common 'othering' between women of different generations which seems particularly heightened right now. They can't quite see themselves as the older women in the room, but will happily group anyone who self-identifies as a woman into their club. Sad

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 29/02/2020 18:37

I just went to look for that bit Pom and they’ve taken it down (usually a live stream becomes a replay able video so they must have purposefully deleted it).

definitelygc · 29/02/2020 18:39

The idea that someone (Lola Olufemi) who has attended one of the most elitist institutions in the world (Cambridge University) thinks they can bash others for being "middle class" blows my mind.

I said to my mum just now "What would you do if you'd organised the conference and those speakers boycotted at the last minute?". She said "I would never have invited people like that in the first place". Well quite. I hope this is a lesson learned for the conference organisers.
