Does anyone have a local International Women's Day that is not for all 'women'? This is the Derby one.

All genders is fine , but they probably mean any sex.Hmm

Lordfrontpaw · 17/02/2020 19:14

One day. One bloody day. We have LGBT month (which starts in June and goes on until the schools go back) and LGBT history Month. Women want one measly day...

ErrolTheDragon · 17/02/2020 19:22

And the colours look so like the women's suffrage ones - but no. Sad

mindtheclegs · 17/02/2020 19:24

I'm nominating some women for certain 'Women In ' awards atm. I'll be very pissed off if someone other than a woman wins a nomination. Prob would put my career on the line to protest.

DryHeave · 17/02/2020 19:32

I know organisations that are doing nothing for IWD rather than get involved in a potential backlash re: what women are. Women are being cowed into not celebrating IWD.

FemaleAndLearning · 17/02/2020 21:44

LordFrontPaw
I agree just one day for adult human females would be nice.

DryHeave
This is how I feel, I don't want to go and celebrate it.

March is women's history month.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 00:04

Is it? Not so’s you’d know!

Thelnebriati · 18/02/2020 00:29

Its in the US. We could try to make it a thing here.

theflushedzebra · 18/02/2020 00:45

TRAs would never let us have a women's history month to ourselves. They wouldn't let us have an hour to ourselves.

Durgasarrow · 18/02/2020 01:52

I'd even be happy if we could have a "Just tell me what a fucking woman is besides anything that wants to call itself a woman day"

YeahLikeNoThough · 18/02/2020 06:05

No actual extra-woke shenanigans here - but it's not much better:

I'm on a panel on the topic of women in leadership for IWD. Event hosted by my workplace. There's one other woman on there. And then, there are five blokes.

And THAT'S why we still need feminism that actually centres women.

NonnyMouse1337 · 18/02/2020 06:25

TRAs would never let us have a women's history month to ourselves. They wouldn't let us have an hour to ourselves.

Who gives a flying fuck what they think. If enough women are interested in organising and participating, that's all that matters.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 08:07

YeahLikeNoThough - men or male bodies?

nonsenceagain · 18/02/2020 09:01

Women's History Month is a thing here, but it never attracts the banners, money, publicity etc.. that LGBT+ History Month does. Both are important; one more so it appears.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/02/2020 09:05

Where I am I can only find the words women and female. Nothing about inclusivity, gender etc. Even "a punk rock party featuring some of the local music scene's most powerful females." were "Men will be required to pay an additional £1 at the door to demonstrate the gender pay gap." Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 09:23

I know there’s the Woman’s Day (a whole day that we are forced to share anyway). I don’t know why we bother really.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 09:48

I forgot I screen shotted this the other day.

Was that tweet written by a moody teenager? It seems to be a woke strategy that if you repeat a phrase over and over again, you have somehow 'won' the argument and 'silenced' any critics. I don't want debate and discussion around women's rights to be reduced to such juvenile statements.

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 09:57

I assume it’s a play on the ‘T rights and human rights’ (no further questions) mantra of so many these days. To which my response is usually ‘so what are women’s rights then - chopped liver?’

JellySlice · 18/02/2020 10:26

It's true, though. Women's rights are human rights.

Countries where women have protected rights and are treated as equal human beings, generally have better access to justice, better access to healthcare, better access to education, better safeguarding of vulnerable people. We may think things are tough for us, that the NHS/justice system/education system etc are flawed, but think about countries where women are treated as chattels: look at the human rights records in those countries.

March already is Womens History Month here. Well, supposedly - it was only celebrated in 2011 and 2012, according to wikipedia. There's a website, but it's not been updated for ages: womenshistorymonth.org.uk
There's a contact link - you could try that and see if anybody answers.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/02/2020 11:36

Well, I suppose women's history hasn't changed since then - history is so yesterday. Nowadays it's all about Making Women History.Hmm

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 11:41

Maybe the British Library could do something nice for us?
