I'm getting the impression that he may have been a sexual abuser. Is this so?

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/02/2020 14:40

What has given you this impression?

The man died - show some respect to his family - funny how all that comes out as soon as the persons gone and can't defend themselves

notangelinajolie · 06/02/2020 14:59

FFS show a little bit of respect. The man has just died and his family loved him. Whatever may or may not come out of the cobwebs should surely be left for one day at lest.

WeHaveSnowdrops · 06/02/2020 15:03

He was a brilliant actor, much under rated. There is more to him than his sexual history, which is awful.

Dylan Thomas beat his wife and was a drunk. I still love his poetry.

Let him without sin ... is my motto. None of us is perfect and the evil we do does not outweigh the good, imo.

WomanBornNotWorn · 06/02/2020 15:04

Check out #NatalieWood which is trending on Twitter.

TheSpottedZebra · 06/02/2020 15:08

How many days should we leave it until it is OK to mention that the recently dead (allegedly?) violently raped a child? 1? 3? 10?

theflushedzebra · 06/02/2020 17:03

funny how all that comes out as soon as the persons gone and can't defend themselves

It's been talked about on MN fo years - that was how I found out about it.

I’m 35 and have known about the allegations since I was a teenager. The allegations predate the internet and were already rife at the time of Wood’s death in 1981.

KD’s own autobiography is pretty disgusting. There’s a disturbing passage about him having sex with a woman he suspected of being an anti Semite (seemingly because she was wearing a crucifix Hmm). When he climaxed he yelled at her.

Here is some of it in his own words;

“When it came to sex, Douglas admits he looked at it as if he were on a big game safari in Africa.

“I looked at something and BANG! I had total control. I enjoyed [killing]; the Masai gave me a shield and a spear and called me Killer Douglas.”

In fact, he said he once used sex to punish a woman he knew was an anti-Semite.

He said he took the woman to bed, keeping the fact he was Jewish a secret until the climatic moment, when he screamed:

“I am a Jew! You are being f— by a Jew!”

Even taking the Woods allegations out of it, he had a pretty horrible attitude towards women and sex.

CunningOperative · 06/02/2020 17:11

I’m going to show rapists the same respect they showed their victims. None.

Natalie, I believe you, rest in peace.

NameChange84 · 06/02/2020 17:16

Let him without sin ... is my motto. None of us is perfect and the evil we do does not outweigh the good, imo.

Really? So it’s ok to be a child rapist? We can just blot out a man in his 30s raping a teenage girl for hours, calling her names, threatening her life and her career, spitting on her, slapping and beating her, causing her to be hospitalised because she couldn’t stop bleeding and leaving her traumatised for the rest of her life?

There is NO DOUBT that someone did that to Natalie Wood. And whoever that person is, KD or not, no amount of “good” can ever outweigh that level of evil.

Would you say such things if you was you or your loved one that was so brutally raped and beaten? “Oh well, he did some good too!”

None of us are without sin but thankfully the majority of us are not rapists, abusers or murderers.

Dervel · 06/02/2020 17:30

I felt this with the Kobe Bryant scenario, we can’t go around venerating rapists. I don’t care how good an actor you are or how good at getting balls in hoops rape is rape.

See I wouldn’t know about about either Kirk nor Kobe were it not for people raising it. I’m glad they did.

NeighbourPooNameChange · 06/02/2020 17:31

notangelina this has been known about for decades. Some media outlets are reporting this as fact. Natalie Wood was hospitalised after her rape. This isn’t anything new and I think all his fans should know about it.

puds11 · 06/02/2020 17:34

Wow. Some of the attitudes on this thread are vomit inducing. Also the allegations have been around for ages. Personally I’d rather support the victims of violent rapists than the violent rapists themselves, irrespective of how good their fucking acting is Hmm

Have a word.

Dervel · 06/02/2020 17:45

Douglas never received an Academy Award for an individual film but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him an honorary Oscar in 1996 for his role as a creative and moral force in the industry

Excuse me whilst I throw up in my mouth a little bit.

PostNowToSaveLater · 06/02/2020 18:44

I find it amazing how quickly the comments have been removed from the internet this afternoon about Kirk Douglas and Natalie Wood and his alleged behaviour towards her. It is quite frightening what rich, powerful lawyers and money can do to stamp out freedom of speech.
It's clear his family loved him, and their bereavement is respected. More than one thing can be true simultaneously. Natalie Wood doesn't seem to have been treated well or had justice.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/02/2020 19:21

It's still all over Twitter.

I heard this story more than 30 years ago and having read his autobiography, by his own admission he sounds a deeply unpleasant individual in many ways. Apparently Natalie refused to work with him at a later point, citing "personal reasons ". To the best of my knowledge she never did that with anyone else.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/02/2020 19:24

I'm not sad he died.

GloGirl · 06/02/2020 19:30

Did he seriously brag that he screamed he was Jewish at the point of climax? What element of hate and rage do you keep in your core that an orgasm could be so bitter? Confused

Patsypie · 06/02/2020 19:37

He was a revolting, violent bastard. There's been stuff online about it for years.

Cwenthryth · 06/02/2020 19:44

None of us are perfect, we are more than one act, yadda yadda...... he was still an alleged rapist, his family are well aware of that. Saying he was an alleged rapist is not a personal judgement, it doesn’t have anything to do with respect, it’s a cold hard fact. The people saying it aren’t doing anything wrong - when someone rapes, that is the wrongdoing. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t also a talented actor, beloved by his family etc. Evan Rachel Wood got virtually hounded off Twitter for saying similar, in a really respectful way to be honest, about Kobe Bryant. But it’s true - people are more complex than just one facet or action, yes - but one of Kirk Douglas’ facets was, allegedly, that he brutally raped Natalie Wood when she was 15/16. Obviously that is going to stir up a lot of emotion for many people, and especially on a women’s rights discussion board, I think it’s fair enough we discuss it.

I’m sure there are other RIP threads on the main chat boards, I would like to kindly ask those who find this discussion disrespectful to head there, or start one to their tastes, rather than attempt to censor women’s discussions here. Thankyou.

NameChange84 · 06/02/2020 19:44

More stuff from a review of his Biography which can’t be disputed...

“I’m a sonofabitch, plain and simple,” he once told a biographer. “I’m probably the most disliked actor in Hollywood. And I feel pretty good about it. Because that’s me…. I was born aggressive, and I guess I’ll die aggressive.”

“Co-workers have noted the trait. “He’s a vicious bastard,” says a former associate, “who thinks he’s God and treats everybody else like excrement.” Burt Lancaster, who has made half a dozen pictures with Douglas, once remarked: “Kirk would be the first to tell you that he is a very difficult man. And I would be the second.”
Son Peter calls his father “a driven man, an obsessive man.” He is obsessed with sex, with fitness, with punctuality. When he is involved in something, he is involved totally: He is a passionate collector of pre-Columbian art, and he has learned to speak five languages fluently. By the same token his resentments are fierce and unremitting. He still seethes when he describes how, while an unknown actor, he escorted a pretty actress to a Hollywood party, only to have the lady lured away in a limo by two famous guys named Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda—never mind that the event transpired almost half a century ago.”

DollyDaydream70 · 06/02/2020 19:45

RIP Natalie Wood, used and abused by almost everyone close to her throughout her entire life. Her Mother saw her as a cash cow, KD allegedly violently raped her (her Mother told her to keep quiet about it in order to keep her Hollywood aspirations for her Daughter on track). And lastly, her death was EXTREMELY suspicious.. RW needs to be put back under the microscope IMHO.

siring1 · 06/02/2020 20:23

Oh well if there's stuff on line it has to be true. "The internet only contains verified facts," to quote George Washington.
