Thanks for starting this thread as I've been looking at the predictible harrassment Emily is getting on Twitter, which I blame Penis News for.

NellieEllie · 06/12/2019 17:33

Her tweet seems to specifically state that she is NOT talking about trans people as a danger, but predatory people taking advantage of self Id. Can’t some people actually READ?

HandsOffMyRights · 06/12/2019 17:33

Tom Harwood piled on, pointed the finger and branded her (wait for it, you'll be shocked) a TE*F.

Jesus wept. Children are being drugged and mutilated and stripped of their fertility and THIS is what outrageous society? A woman saying "no, we don't want predatory males in our spaces."

NellieEllie · 06/12/2019 17:34

I’ve been suspended from twitter for saying similar....so haven’t seen the original tweet.

Waterandlemonjuice · 06/12/2019 17:36

Good for her, go Emily.

NellieEllie · 06/12/2019 17:36

Emily Maitlis was just being really clear about what self Id means.
It’s just ridiculous that it’s called “scare mongering” It’s not. It’s just actually quite scary.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 17:38

Penis News continue with their "everyone agrees with us but those witches" stance despite their own poll showing that in reality almost nobody does.

BettyFilous · 06/12/2019 17:45

I’m even more glad I put a card in the post to Emily today. If you happen across this thread Emily, keep it up and don’t let the bastards grind you down. 💪

Also, if the BBC continues disciplining female staff about this (as they did with Jenni Murray) it’ll start looking an awful lot like discrimination. I’d be happy to do some digging if the BBC’s GC female journalists need a hand.

Also, WTF is Pink News on? If there’s bias it’s in completely the other direction. Its about the time there was some balance in this debate.

Pink News identifies as a serious news source.

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 17:53

Pink News - such bollocks.

They couldn't report the news if they tripped over it.

SarahTancredi · 06/12/2019 17:54

Someones scared...

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/12/2019 17:55

Good for Emily!

Glad GNC Ben has pointed out what's happening over there.

I notice someone's trying to 'educate' her by directing her to stonewall 🙄

nauticant · 06/12/2019 17:57

Setting the dogs on Emily Maitlis is not necessarily going to make her shut the fuck up and reset everything back to a cosy TWAW consensus.

(Does anyone else automatically complete TWAW with a T rather than a W?)

OvaHere · 06/12/2019 17:58

Pretty sure EM is fully educated. She wouldn't have waded into this without all her ducks in a row.

HandsOffMyRights · 06/12/2019 18:01

You are on fire today! Grin Grin

nauticant · 06/12/2019 18:03

I'm very cross HandsOffMyRights!

But it's the weekend which might mellow my mood. Have a good one!

Angryresister · 06/12/2019 18:03

It was a refreshing change to see these programmes, when the bias has been the other way until now. Well done Emily, the tide is definitely turning thanks to brave women like you

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 06/12/2019 18:03

Despicable hatred she's receiving. These people live in lala land.

I am so fucking fed up with the gaslighting.

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 18:05

Her tweet still has an awful more likes than comments...and a lot of those comments are supportive.

Sorry TRAs - your quest to pass this legislation on the quiet, with no debate, has failed.

The more people are finding out about this, the more people don't like it.

TRAs can "accuse" Maitliss of whatever they like - but people can hear what she said themselves, and I think public opinion agrees with her.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 18:05

I suspect it's precisely because she doesn't seem like the type to be easily intimidated that they've come out with all guns blazing.

RedToothBrush · 06/12/2019 18:14

So a journalist doing her job and asking questions is politically biases now?

Critical analysis is politically biased?

Well at least there we have it - straight out of the authoritarian playbook.

A journalists job is to ask difficult questions which might happen to be politically awkward and difficult to get to the heart of an issue and expose what lies beneath.

It's not to agree with lobbyists and to make life easy for them.

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 18:21

Someone on the Maitliss thread (a man) has just opined that Maitliss has got this wrong, because sex segregation is just a tradition, and people object to sex segregation in Mosques, or something.

I mean - how do these men sail through life having no fucking idea WHY women have safe spaces? And will happily give them away on our behalf (they are not yours to give away, random man) and tell women who object to stop being so silly about it. We have these rights in law - and they act like they are nothing, Just tradition. It's just fucking mansplaining on a grand scale.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 18:27

Perhaps the man in question is confused as to what happens in mosques. I can quite confidently inform him that people do not generally strip down to their underpants in the middle of one in order to try on a range of outfits.

(There may well be toilets, and those will indeed be sex segregated. Oh the horrors.)

TheQueef · 06/12/2019 18:32

Who is she biased towards?
No party is an option Confused
