Hi Mumsnet, I’m an Independent councillor on LCC. My name is Sarah Field and I’m a huge follower of Mumsnet Feminists.

Anyway am just putting a call out for anyone who still wants to buy a WPUK ticket for this Friday. Venue will be released in the afternoon. Unfortunately I’m not well enough to be on the panel, but would love to see the venue packed to the rafters and looking forward to listening to some amazing women.

Due to a shock cancer diagnosis in early July I’ve had to drop the mantle due to chemotherapy and a rough few months. But slowly I want to get back momentum and take back the fight against Leeds misogyny and its sex trade.

Womenzwork · 22/11/2019 18:10

Sarah, that speech was (is) phenomenal. Thank you for all you have done and I do hope you are feeling better soon. Bastard cancer. I would love to attend these events but my circumstances don't permit it at the moment either. I am sure it will be great tonight.

RagingBall · 22/11/2019 18:12

Hope you're feeling much better soon Sarah, you'll be missed.

I'm on my way, see some of you soo

MadgePickup · 22/11/2019 18:51

I’m at least happy that my ward colleagues and I in Garforth and Swillington were able to make this meeting happen. We sponsored the room (securing it and saving WPUK a lot of money, which councillor sponsorship ensures) and felt it was very important that, a year on from last year’s cancellation, this meeting happened where it should have been.

You are fantastic Sarah. I live in your ward and we know each other, sort of. I can't go tonight because of babysitting, illness and the like.

Hope you are OK xxx

MadgePickup · 22/11/2019 19:15

Oh I’m intrigued now, Clowns!

Thank you xxx

It’s a corker of an event. Inspiring, heartbreaking, encouraging and a call to action for all of us.

HermioneWeasley · 22/11/2019 20:35

Sarah, you’ve been a breath of fresh air, thank you. I’m sorry to hear you’re Ill

MadgePickup · 22/11/2019 20:46

I’m lying in my hospital bed in St James’s, wrapped in my beautiful crocheted blanket lovingly made for me by the Leeds Spinners. I’ve got goosebumps just reading tweets about it. I’d be in bits if I was there.

I'm in Scotland but really looking forward to reading about it.

Thank you Sarah for your incredible work and bravery in standing up for women. I too have a copy of your speech saved on my phone to read when I need inspiration.

I hope your health improves very soon. Flowers

Howzaboutye · 22/11/2019 22:08

Wow Sarah, love the speech. Good luck on your recovery X

Ereshkigal · 22/11/2019 22:40

So sorry you weren't able to go Sarah, take care and look after yourself, you're amazing and Leeds needs you! Flowers

StroppyWoman · 22/11/2019 23:00

awww! I made a few squares for that blanket - I'm so glad you like it.

MoltenLasagne · 22/11/2019 23:47

Sarah, I'm so sorry you weren't able to come. I spoke to a number of women about your wonderful speech after the meeting and we agreed that Leeds is lucky to have you. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Themyscira · 22/11/2019 23:52

All the best wishes for your health, Sarah. You brilliant, brave, powerful woman.

RagingBall · 23/11/2019 00:50

Sarah you were missed ❤️ - thanks so much for making it happen.

It was a great night, some really good talks & thoughts to take away. I know a few of us were live tweeting so you should get a flavour of it at least.

There were a few protestors outside, but they went home 10 minutes after the meeting started because they were cold and wet 🙂

Wurfit · 23/11/2019 11:56

I'm nowhere near Leeds but have been fortunate enough to be able to attend two WPUK events nearer to hom and remember following events in Leeds last year like Shock.
Thank you Sarah and to your colleagues for making last night - it's so important but not at all easy to stand up this way, especially when you have so much else going on x

Wurfit · 23/11/2019 11:57

SisterWendyBuckett · 23/11/2019 12:26

Sarah, I just want to thank you for all you are doing.

I remember reading your speech on here and being completely blown away by the beauty and truth of your words.

I've also kept the speech and read it again whenever I need a shot of courage to keep going.

So thank you Sarah - I hope you know the impact you have had on so many women.

Wishing you health and happiness and hope you're back home with your family soon Thanks

dianebrewster · 23/11/2019 12:45

Thank you for all you've done Sarah, so great to see the Leeds women rising!

I'm a Leeds 9 girl, born in Jimmys, now part of the great missionary movement to teach the South that Christmas cake must only be eaten with cheese.

Sending positive vibes for your full recovery xx
