Lamahaha · 06/10/2019 05:58

Two great articles today in the Sunday Mail:

'Pick your own sex' plans are shelved: Equalities minister Liz Truss abandons drive to relax laws around changing gender

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7542003/Equalities-minister-Liz-Truss-abandons-drive-relax-laws-changing-gender.html?fbclid=IwAR3ZOW9Y0raeCTvscZzUkVXmEyDx2t_GkKbDDzsgfzLQFcNWR1PhmnrZmWk

and:
Hundreds of transgender youths who had gender reassignment surgery wish they hadn't and want to transition back, says trans rights champion

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7541679/Hundreds-youths-gender-surgery-wish-hadnt-says-head-advocacy-network.html

In older news, the Times, has an article on the Old Vic loos (possibly already posted!), with a fantastic comments thread, (actually 3 days old, but going viral now on Facebook; I've seen it three times on my feed by various people:

😮

Wow!

Thank you Liz Truss.

And thanks Lamahaha. That’s a wonderful thing to wake up to.

Needmoresleep · 06/10/2019 06:31

You can add this to the list

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7542005/Girls-skipping-school-avoid-sharing-gender-neutral-toilets-boys.html

Written by the very sound Sanchez Manning

Needmoresleep · 06/10/2019 06:36

My guess is that the Tories are gearing up for an election and they will raise the impact of trangenerism on children as an issue.

I think they will stay clear of adults. The idea of transing children is clearcut. Children cant provide informed consent. They will want to avoid more general culture wars and the risk of being dubbed the nasty party.

Toomanytears · 06/10/2019 06:38

I'm sure that some boys become girls and then transition back but most of the time these articles seem to be. Girls who lived as boys and then became comfortable being a woman.

MadamBatty · 06/10/2019 06:47

No boys do not become girls Toomanytears. Sex is immutable.

AnyOldPrion · 06/10/2019 06:49

Sad but true, Needmore. Liz Truss’s statement is perhaps deliberately unclear on the issue of adult legal changes in the longer term.

Nappyvalley15 · 06/10/2019 06:59

Good news. Transing children and taking away single sex provision from women is clearly electoral poison. I hope one day the other parties recognise it too. In the meantime I am pleased that a minister has done this. It should mean that EHRC guidance gets major amendments.

Toomanytears · 06/10/2019 07:15

Sorry madame I was short handing and then my dc distracted me. I am in total agreement that sex can't be changed!

I was going to say that the females transitioning and then detransitioning just highlights how shit the female gender roles is that they don't feel comfortable when in it but find they can't live in a 'man's world's either. Males on the other hand don't want to be alpha so transition and the women are conditioned to be kind and accepting making it easier for them.

I have no proof of this. Just my early morning ramblings that gender roles help no one but we all knew that already!

ForeverFaff · 06/10/2019 07:15

What's that saying? "Keep pulling!!"
I've done my modest bits, as I imagine everyone here has. I think the unstoppable tide of small acts of rebellion have done it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/10/2019 07:17

It's a start! Obviously it doesn't go far enough, but when you consider where Tory policy seemed to be going a year ago this is a major improvement. Maria Miller must be furious.

Lamahaha · 06/10/2019 07:32

I've added several of my own comments to the Times article. There's someone called Jo March there who always has wonderful comments... I suspect she's an MNer!

Re the Old Vic story, someone commented that there should be an organised boycott of Old Vic by women. Like, hundreds of women refusing to go there, and other places (such as we have collected here on a thread on MN) because of the loo issue. I do think it will take something like this to have an impact -- not lots of indivual women in random protests, but an organised and outspoken protest and boycott by women against mixed sex toilets.

mcduffy · 06/10/2019 07:43

I was at the Camden roundhouse recently and it still had its pride banners up in places, the disabled loo was labelled "gender neutral" Hmm

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/10/2019 07:51

Well that's a positive start to a rainy Sunday!
The deliberate targeting of children was always going to be the critical issue imho. It's an arrogant overreach in assuming that children are there to be groomed for the benefit of adult groups and that parents could be bullied into submission by threats of parental alienation. Of course, this has been very successful but at least we are able to identify it. Now the government must to stop it happening - which will be a huge challenge as the civil service are leading the way with the grooming - both in the EHRC and DfE.

Pringlesfortea · 06/10/2019 07:54

I read awhile a while back about a lot of transgender kids being autistic, that they were mixed up and thought their sex was wrong ..my friend is a teacher ,and so many of them are now trans ,she said it’s confusing in class..when you regularly have 3/4 kids in a class of 30 that Are trans ,as a teacher you are bound to get mixed up occasionally

Pringlesfortea · 06/10/2019 07:57

I fail to see how anyone could think shared toilets for children was in girls best interests, when they are just getting used to or approaching mensuration
That’s the point though isn’t it
No one is thinking of the girls best interests

Needmoresleep · 06/10/2019 08:20

Curiously the Liz Truss story no longer appears on MailOnline. Released in error or too early? Push back from somewhere?

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2019 08:28

I can still see it

And on my twitter feed an ad from Labour Party saying they support women and stand beside them and support their rights. Pass it on

Well that is a fucking joke Labour Party.
Only the right sort of women

littlbrowndog · 06/10/2019 08:31

Labour is a party that proudly stands with women and fights with them for their rights. With us? Pass this on.

Having a joke labour 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/10/2019 08:49

Does the ad have tiny text saying "PS we only mean the ones with cocks" at the end?

LizzieSiddal · 06/10/2019 08:52

I’ve commented on the Labour Tweet too. They really have no idea how much they’ve alienated women.

Great to see the Liz Truss News. I can’t stand her but will now not refer to her as Cheese woman, and thank her for pushing Self ID into the long grass.

Also I’m so grateful to the people talking about detransitioning. It’s all starting to unravel isn’t it.
.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/10/2019 08:56

Caroline Criado Perez in today's Sunday Times is a good read about mixed sex toilets:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/women-cant-win-when-it-comes-to-loo-queues-l3szkbxhx?shareToken=69dbb1523800df913fe80e8ffb8a666a

HandsOffMyRights · 06/10/2019 08:58

An excellent collection.
This needs to come out of the shadows, beyond the Twitter bubble and in to the public arena.

The majority of people know that child experimentation is wrong and women just won't tolerate having our spaces removed and invaded by penises.

Happy Sunday!

zanahoria · 06/10/2019 09:24

It's easy to say TWAW for a few woke points but far more difficult to introduce legislation as quite simply the arguments don't add up. They would be pulled apart in the HoC and ridiculed in the media.

The Government are left in a position where they are trying to pretend to Stonewall that they are pursuing this but they both know it ain't happening .

AbsintheFriends · 06/10/2019 10:46

In the detransitioning article, this caught my eye

Data is not currently collected showing how many transgender people come to regret their decision but the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust - which offers gender identity services for children as young as three - says it is 'rarely seen'

Does anyone have any recent information on James Caspian's action against the University of Bath (? was it Bath?) who wouldn't allow him to research exactly this area?
