Bristol uni promoting the idea of a 'girl brain'

See their Instagram page. They're putting up guest posts from someone with the handle 'girl brain boy body'. They also have training talks for staff by the same person with the same title. Such regressive sexist BS.

Why doesn't that surprise me? I'm a student there currently. During the 'housekeeping' part of my first week of lectures, we were told that if there was a fire alarm with a female voice giving instructions, then we could just ignore it. If there was an alarm with a male voice then we needed to pay attention because it wasn't a drill. I was Shock

I just think it says so much that they chose a male voice to be the 'serious' one.

As an aside, we had a lecture on the effect of 'gender' on the coronary artery disease. I asked a question about whether transwomen have an increased risk if they take oestrogen. The lecturer (and my fellow students) were Hmm They all think I'm a bit of a weirdo one way and another Grin

To be fair it's to do with different zones and where any fire is. There's something similar where I work, just less sexist!

Have commented on the Instagram post to be told I'm 'thinking too much' (with my stupid lady brain) and that the 'girl brain' handle has 'nothing to do with sexism'. So gaslighty and patronising.

Wouldn’t want anyone to die in a fire out of sheer sympathy with non-binary folk.

On the fire thing, we had a similar setup in the hospital I used to work in. The ‘female voice’ message warned you to be alert because an incident had been reported somewhere in the hospital, but not close enough for you to need to evacuate. The male voice message meant the incident was near and you needed to move zones (along/down) until you got to an area with the female voice. I’m not saying it’s not sexist! But two-tier zoned evacuation per se does make a lot of sense for large buildings like hospitals.
