When I have commented on the pressure on lesbians to accept penis before in the Times I got told not to be ridiculous, that would never happen. That is quite some time ago. I wonder if the perception of the readers has shifted since then,

There was a Twitter thread of 300 tweets demonstrating the pressure lesbians are under, though I can't remember who from. It would be good to comment under the article with it, I can do that if someone finds it.

I'm still reeling from James Kirkup's article in the Speccy last week.

That penultimate sentence was razor sharp in its intent. He is articulate, in the extreme.

I actually signed up to a subscription to The Spectator, off the back of it, so I could share the article with friends.

And I could also read Janice's stuff all day; she's an excellent writer.

it won't raise the outrage it should (cos it's only about lesbians - imagine if it was about gay men), but it's still brilliant

DD is shocked at the amount and openness of anti-lesbian bigotry at University, often from affluent middle class kids whose own parents would presumably be more liberal. She is straight, but when she tells others she plays sport a common response is "so, you are a dyke" and lesbian peers get far worse.

What is needed presumably is an organisation to protect gay rights...ahhh, we have one, but they seem too busy reinforcing gender stereotypes.

Thanks Janice. The treatment of lesbians in 2019 is chilling. The National Theatre incident was awful and yet where was little OJ or Tatchell or Fry calling out this regressive homophobia?

Yet men who claim to be women (and then decide to also call themselves women) are celebrated as Janice astutely points out.

This certainly exposes that this is a men's demands cult founded in misogyny.

Got a real talent for knitting elements of a story together.

One of the things that has really taken me aback in all of this is the utter contempt and white-hot anger that some gay men have demonstrated towards lesbians who assert their right to same-sex attraction and relationships. Misogyny. But never casual, always vicious. How dare lesbians even think that they are entitled to say no to men? These gay men line up to stick the boot into lesbians and then pat themselves and each other on the back for their brave strike for inclusion and kindness.

Simon Fanshawe, Jonny Best, James Dreyfus, Marilyn are brave exceptions.

This is nothing new - forty years ago I listened in shock to the dislike and contempt for lesbians voiced by my male gay friends. It was verging on pure hatred.

Not when you ignore their sexuality and just consider that they're men, it isn't. Gay men have had most of their oppression stripped away and so now they're just behaving like men.
