Gender Recognition Act consultation results "later this year"

Well that's according to pink news who seem to have their own hotline to the Women and Equalities Committee.

"Minister for Women and Equalities Penny Mordaunt said that the LGBT Policy Team would publish its response to the GRA “shortly,” alongside findings on a Call for Evidence on issues faced by people with variations in sex characteristics.

It will also report on its research into the number of young trans people in the UK, and on how it will end conversion therapy."

www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/07/04/government-response-gender-recognition-later-this-year/

I've tried searching to .gov.uk site but cant find any statement about this.

Although lost at the end of the LGBT Action Plan Annual Report is this comment:

"We will publish our response to the findings of the Gender Recognition Act consultation. The Government Equalities Office is analysing the results and intends to respond to the consultation this year. We will also publish the findings of the variations in sex characteristics and non-binary Calls for Evidence this year."

Which of course just confirms that women's issues are just subsumed within everyone else's.

Maybe someone else can find some more overt statement.

I suspect that will get the same analysists as the Corporation of London and anyone who queried the misuse of the word gender for sex will have all their responses binned. Angry

Yes we can't stop this as it's what the government want.
But reminding people they are allowed to think and explaining what is happening will mean more and more of the public won't follow.

OrchidInTheSun · 05/07/2019 18:28

Yes well Mordaunt also said she was going to mount an investigation into ROGD which she has never mentioned again.

With a PM (and therefore Mordaunt's job) hanging in the balance, I doubt she is in a position to make any assurances.

Satterthwaite · 05/07/2019 18:29

Isn't Penny Maudaunt the Defence
Secretary? Or does she still have this portfolio as well?

stumbledin · 05/07/2019 18:36

Yes Penny Maudaunt is the current Women and Equalities Minister. I think there have been 3 in less than 3 years. And continues as Minister for Defence.

I know see that Pink News got the info as they had a party at the House of Commons and of course all the woke MPs turned up www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/07/04/mps-lgbt-rights-pinknews-reception-westminster/

I had a response to my email from Mordaunt's office which says the same. I don't trust them but I'm keen to know what they are going to come up with.

DpWm · 05/07/2019 19:35

Will it be treated in the same way as the city of London "consultation" where they bin the replies they don't like I wonder

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/07/2019 19:49

There is no question that it will.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 05/07/2019 20:35

"We will also publish the findings of the variations in sex characteristics and non-binary Calls for Evidence this year"

They mixed "non-binary" in with DSDs? Shock

R0wantrees · 05/07/2019 20:43

Worth seeing what the Women&Equalities dept has been tweeting out today.

Their letter about the census is breathtakingly ill-informed:

Gah! That was NOT what Penny was supposed to be researching. There is no increase in young trans people, there is an increase in girls who believe that they are boys (and vice versa to a lesser extent). We need research into why so many girls are transitioning, not a study which assumes as it's start point that they really are actually boys ffs. And "end conversion therapy"? You mean, "any attempt to give therapy to the vulnerable children who have been groomed to believe they are the opposite sex"? Absolutely fucking mental. Penny needs to gtfo with this shit.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/07/2019 21:26

Penny needs to gtfo with this shit.

Do yuo honestly the next person will do anything different.

She is a puppet.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 05/07/2019 22:52

Yup, and whichever gov we get next will be even worse. It's so depressing.

BatShite · 06/07/2019 02:00

It will also report on its research into the number of young trans people in the UK, and on how it will end conversion therapy.

I hate how they use conversian therapy in this way. 'Trans conversion therapy' is nothing like gay conversion therapy, not at all. The trans version is basically..trying to help kids to be happy with the bodies they have and/or work through any issues that may be causing/contributing to causing dysphoria, before shoving them onto irreversible drugs that are not needed. How PN, or anyon, see this as a bad thing I will nevr understand Hmm

BatShite · 06/07/2019 02:05

Their letter about the census is breathtakingly ill-informed

Yeah I am sure its about intersex people who wish to identify themselves as something other than male or female Hmm

I am not opposed to the adding of gender and sexuality boxes really. But the wanting more than 2 sex options, or a way to add in your own sex which is not male/female is just daft. Also again, tries to conflate sex with gender, despite already acknowledging that a different part will already be there for gender, which is not sex. Ugh.

Not that it all matters anyway really. The militant TRA types will just identify themselves as female anyway no doubt. And see absolutely no problem with doing so, as bloody usual.

ChattyLion · 06/07/2019 07:28

I think a lot of people know that self ID is a ridiculous, misogynistic, lesbophobic, homophobic, dangerous idea and an offensive and ludicrous thing for a government to seriously spend our public money to consult on. But that said, the government do have to respond to the consultation once it’s happened as part of the consultation process.

But- It totally depends who gets into power, who the future PM is and which ministers are in charge of this whether and how this gets followed up and none of that is possible to know right now. The government don’t have to follow this up with any actual Parliamentary action to draft legislation and to vote to change the law- only if they want to. Then enough MPs have to be convinced to support it.

So like any political campaign this is a long game, we know we have public opinion and moral fairness on our side, let’s carry on articulating all that to our MPs so they understand these are not their rights for them to be voting away. They’re our rights. Women’s safety, privacy, dignity are not a political bargaining chip to appease a vociferous, institutionally backed lobby.

MPs also need to understand that if they open up self ID snd GRA system for debate- there are a hell of a lot of people who don’t agree with what we already have got there and who will be campaigning for repeal of that Act. Given the original justification for bringing it in has gone because we now have same sex marriage and we now have equal pension rights, we want there to be an honest debate about what the need to retain this legislation is.

A lot of organisations aren’t going to come out of that debate looking like they are working in good faith. More children will have been known to have been drugged and surgeries without sufficient psychological support and exploration as the first line response. More male crime will be reported. More mega charities with agendas that make donors’ hair curl will be exposed.

Truth and sunlight and time will reveal a lot so kicking this into the long grass may seem like the best political compromise to a new government. So for the foreseeable years, we need to keep talking to people on and off this board, keep writing to our MPs and journalists and keep making a very public stink every time an organisation tries to ‘get ahead of the law’.

Lumene · 06/07/2019 07:51

Penny Mordaunt isn’t in charge of Tory party policy and the GEO can’t just do what it wants.

MPs read the Times and Spectator and the wider picture has been very clearly spelled out.

Lumene · 06/07/2019 07:54

Do yuo honestly the next person will do anything different. She is a puppet.

A puppet to who? Do you mean she was lobbied by TRAs and is their puppet or something else?

Kilbranan · 06/07/2019 07:58

Great post chatty. It’s helped stall things in Scotland which is a surprise. It shows with enough people speaking up the trans juggernaut can be slowed at least. We all need to keep talking about the damage this pro affirmation and self id approach is having on vulnerable children and on women as a whole

AnyOldPrion · 06/07/2019 08:14

But- It totally depends who gets into power, who the future PM is

Speaking of which... does anyone know whether either of our glorious candidates for PM has ever commented on their opinion of what women are?

ChattyLion · 06/07/2019 08:27

So happy to see what’s happening in Scotland! Flowers A real boost- I filled out that godawful ‘consultation’ feeling dread at what would happen.

TorchesTorches · 06/07/2019 15:52

I wonder if the results will be published on 1st November, which might be a good day to 'bury bad news', or its equivalent.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 06/07/2019 16:48

I was just going to post the same torches. It's certainly what "later this year" made me think of.

4/7/2019 Pink News:

"Penny Mordaunt: Gender Recognition Act reform plans will be ‘out the door in the next few weeks"

(extract)
Speaking at the PinkNews summer reception at Church House in Westminster, London, on July 4, Mordaunt said that not only would the government announce the results of the public consultation, which received over 100,000 responses, but that she hoped they would also announce what they planned to do following the results.

“I’m hopeful that we will be able to get both the response to the consultation and what we’re planning on doing out there before the summer recess,” Mordaunt told PinkNews.

“We’re working to get it out the door as soon as possible. I’m sorry it’s taken so long, but we needed to do a proper job on it.”

The public consultation ran from 3 July 2018 to 22 October 2018.

“I’m really hoping we’ll be able to get that out the door in the next few weeks,” Mordaunt told PinkNews." (continues)

Parliamentary recess seems to start on the 26th July

InsulatedCup · 06/07/2019 20:22

I am probably not the only person wondering what "doing a proper job on it" means
