Royal Astronomical Society calls out TERFs

The diversity arm of the RAS is proudly saying it will not have TERFs giving opinions on its Twitter account.
I am truly shocked and upset that a scientific institution bloke this thinks this is acceptable.

At least someone called it out as hate speech.

I can't quite grasp why people are shocked that something being pushed from the top down is being preached by the top downward, it's like the suprise that grants are coming from Scottish parliament.

I have a niece who loves astronomy. To see women as a sex class treated in this dismissive, contemptuous way breaks my heart.

I've engaged on threads calling RAS_Diversity out for the slur today. I also Tweeted the Royal Soc main account directly, pointing out that T*RF is a slur. I said a Scottish politician who used it was suspended. I also linked them to the terfisaslur.com website.

From their website;

The RAS is committed to creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone is treated fairly, regardless of gender, disability, ethnic origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital status, age, or nationality.

Maybe a few of us could email them to tell them this is incorrect?

Shocked as I am still quite new to this debate and just find it incredible that an institution finds this acceptable to tweet.
I guess I am not normalised to all this stuff yet despite not being able to get out of the rabbit hole.

But they explained back in december that t*rf is not a slur, merely a descriptive acronym, so that's ok then.

All of these organisations that have nothing to do with identity politics are starting to look deranged with their TWAW mantra.

When I get a little time I will be researching the issue and putting in a formal allegation under the code. Please can I beg other users to do the same. This cannot stand.

The twitter biog lists the three people who tweet from the RASDiversity account. At least one of them is retweeting prolifically from various accounts that explicitly call to silence dissent and specifically silence women.

Fucksake. RASDiversity used to be the RAS Women account. But it now apparently hates women, unless they are a) transwomen, or b) actual women, as long as those actual women are prepared to go to the back of the queue, their natural place in the world of science.

I depair.

When we're dealing with a crisis of trust in experts among the public, do you know what's a really GREAT idea? For your scientific organisation to push the single most batshit dogma in recent times and start screaming the new word for 'heretic'. Well done RAS. You muppets.

Fucking hell. I've been to public women in astronomy events there (which were great!) I fucking wouldn't go now, as I would absolutely feel unsafe. Well done, RAS. You could only stomach a hundred years of admitting women into your ranks before you realised it was all a TERRIBLE MISTAKE and you should go back to making sure they felt entirely unwelcome, and prioritising men instead.

What is their definition of trans woman who can apply for the women only funding?

Is it transwomen with a GRC? Is it anyone with a male body who feels like calling themselves a woman?
