Nothing says 2019 Guardian more than:

"Rev Hicks, 31, is a gender queer Sister of Perpetual Indulgence who created a family of clown nuns".

To think I used to buy that rag.

Dear God, the shame.

S1naidSucks · 20/06/2019 18:26

Oh dear Galia! They might as well change Pride to ‘ME ME ME! LOOK AT ME I’M SPECIAL’. There’s still less letters in it, by the time you add that lot onto the LGB! I’m actually embarrassed for some of them.

S1naidSucks · 20/06/2019 18:27

Mind you, I bet most LGB people are thanking their lucky stars they’ve left out if that lot!

OrchidInTheSun · 20/06/2019 18:29

How fucking tedious these people are.

SomeDyke · 20/06/2019 18:30

Homosexuality, the love that dare not speak it's name (because being queer is so much more inclusive.............).

I refuse to be included in a term that disappears me. I'll stick with the bulldykes, the sapphists, and the lezzers. We're still at the front of the LGB+ nonsense. Since sex is binary, sexual orientation, well homo, hetero, or bi, simple 2x2 logic ain't it, with the off-diagonal elements identified (which is the only sensible usage of identified I'll permit!).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 18:33

These are just exhibitionists. This is part of LGB how exactly?

Back in the day they would do this in the comfort of their own homes, and not try to make our they were gifted and a higher species.

SpeckofStardust · 20/06/2019 18:36

"Rev Hicks, 31, is a gender queer Sister of Perpetual Indulgence who created a family of clown nuns".

They just fucking have to be trolling everyone, surely?

As for the rest of the "I'm so different and special" crowd in that article, I rolled my eyes so hard I think I broke something in there.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 18:40

Clowns are scary and I still remember the spooky nun ghosty from tales of the unexpected (rocking chair, red eyes...)

Clown nuns/nun clowns would scare the beejeezus out of me.

AlwaysComingHome · 20/06/2019 18:44

I think the creepy nun in the rocking chair is from Armchair Thriller.

DpWm · 20/06/2019 18:48

Good lord. The people are supposed to be grown adults Confused

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 18:55

Creepy rocking chair nun was mid-1970s and I believe in in the attic. Glowing red eyes. Still gives me the willies.

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 18:59

My fave is Fresh Lev who is friends with a married couple.

Erm, that's it. That's what makes Lev special apparently.

And that merits a swooning piece in The Guardian.

jennymanara · 20/06/2019 18:59

Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have been around for decades.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/06/2019 19:00

I just keep hearing the line from father ted in my head:
‘You’re all lovely girls...’

BroomstickOfLove · 20/06/2019 19:06

The sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have been doing activism and fundraising while dressed as drag nuns since the 1970s. It's not a new thing.

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 19:12

The clown nun thing must be a new twist.

jennymanara · 20/06/2019 19:14

No not a new twist.
Honestly this just seems like a bunch of people on this thread who know nothing of the history they are criticising.

littlecabbage · 20/06/2019 19:15

FFS. Are you sure this isn't a fake article? I can't quite believe the ridiculousness, even for The Guardian Confused

littlecabbage · 20/06/2019 19:17

Honestly this just seems like a bunch of people on this thread who know nothing of the history they are criticising.

Do enlighten us about the history of clown nuns....

jennymanara · 20/06/2019 19:19

People are talking about Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as if they are a new thing, they are not. Criticise them if you want for being men in drag or mocking religion, but at least have some bloody clue about what you are being critical of.

Popchyk · 20/06/2019 19:21

I'm all ears about the clown nun thing.

jennymanara · 20/06/2019 19:23

This is an article about them that a 2 second google found. There have been criticisms of them for decades for mocking nuns in what they do. They also have a long history of fundraising and activism in issues such as Aids and same sex marriage.

TurboTeddy · 20/06/2019 19:24

I am weak, I clicked the link but I blame Popchyk for including this quote in their post,

Rev Hicks, 31, is a gender queer Sister of Perpetual Indulgence who created a family of clown nuns

WTELF! How can anyone take this seriously.

PreseaCombatir · 20/06/2019 19:29

jenny this is not the same group.
This is their own ‘branch’.
It blatantly says this is the first sisters of perpetual indulgence that has taken off, after six attempts. After they added the ‘clown’ elements I’m assuming.
