Not sure what you're trying to say.

mabelmylove · 10/06/2019 21:47

Oh, just leave people be fgs.

DancingRaven · 10/06/2019 21:50

"The older I get, the more I think that I’m nonbinary — I’m gender nonconforming. Like, some days I feel like a man, but then other days I feel like a woman. I don’t really — I think my energies are really all over the place. Any opportunity I have to break down stereotypes of the binary, I am down for it, I’m here for it. I think that a lot of times gender is used to separate and divide. It’s this social construct that I don’t really feel like I fit into the way I used to. I always used to think “Oh, I’m like a gay man,” but I think any way I can let little boys and little girls know that they can express themselves and they can like be — like, making iconic partnerships with brands like essie no matter now they present is really important and exciting."

This is how I understand non binary, he explains it well

Caucho · 10/06/2019 21:50

To be fair the interview reads better than the headline but what’s wrong with being fem gay guy rather than all this non binary shite?

OP posts:
Haworthia · 10/06/2019 21:53

I knew this was coming.

I was hoping JVN would just be an extremely camp gay man. A feminine, gender non-conforming man. A man with a beard and a love of heels and “women’s” clothing. Broadening the definition of what it is to be a man.

But no... non-binary. Shame 🤷‍♀️

DpWm · 10/06/2019 21:55

This is how I understand non binary, he explains it well
He's still a male person though

Caucho · 10/06/2019 21:56

I don’t mind his definition of non binary being honest but that is not reflective of the what the label has now come to be known as

OP posts:
DpWm · 10/06/2019 21:57

Honestly, people can express themselves however the fuck they like
Oh, just leave people be fgs
Yes, quite.
Just get on with it. Don't make me use weird pronouns specifically for you and make me pretend you're not a man anymore because you've put on some eyeliner.

Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:01

I think I’ve been a bit harsh if he’s trying to reclaim the label for a more sensible version which means people don’t have to conform to gender stereotypes. I doubt he insists on being called a woman or what’s to use the ladies loos.

The headlines of him ‘coming out as non binary’ however aren’t the best but he’s probably not responsible for the journos.

He does not fit the somewhat now new non binary definition though

OP posts:
IlluminatiConfirmed · 10/06/2019 22:04

And what has this label come to be known as Caucho?

Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:15

I don’t know to be honest. Whatever spin someone wants to put on it. What I’ve come to take it to mean is someone who doesn’t consider themselves to be neither a man or a woman

OP posts:
Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:19

Gender fluid I thought meant people can consider themselves to be men or women but are able to switch between the two there and back. I don’t know to be honest though. It’s a learning experience for me and I find it difficult to keep up with what’s in fashion

OP posts:
Popchyk · 10/06/2019 22:24

It is just someone who spies an opportunity. Nothing wrong with that of course.

Coming out as non-binary just when you have nail polish to hawk?

Colour me shocked.

IlluminatiConfirmed · 10/06/2019 22:25

Why the contempt then, the swearing? You can be who you need to be (straight single man or whatever) but not at the expense of others.

Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:30

Freddie Mercury must have been non binary. Well all of Queen going off the video I want to break free

OP posts:
Barracker · 10/06/2019 22:32

other days I feel like a woman.
He feels like he has ovaries and fallopian tubes and a feeling of belonging to the group that is expected to wipe arses and scrub floors, as Glosswitch puts it?
No, he doesn't mean that.
He means he embodies the wommanylaydee stereotypes he pretends he's breaking down.

How do these 'woman' days manifest, exactly? With period pains? Or with a desire to read chick lit and watch romcoms and have pillowfights?

Men this daft should just shush. Or go and read a book. Just anything but talk about having 'woman' days.

Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:33

I know writing shite might technically be swearing but it really is tame for Mumsnet. I can think what I want thank you very much but there does remain the possibility that the police might track me down and drag me away for re-education

OP posts:
Caucho · 10/06/2019 22:36

There are a significant amount of people in the world who believe the earth to be flat and I’ll happily say I think they’re talk shite as well

OP posts:
DancingRaven · 11/06/2019 08:50

Jonathan is not demanding people use pronouns, he isn't demanding access to sexed facilities, he is just wanting to express himself in what ever way he wishes without believing all the other guff.

I think he could be important, bringing this non binary silliness to an end. Back to men and women expressing themselves how they wish without lobbying for changes to safeguarding policies.

I'm a fan of Jonathan, he expresses himself well, is intelligent and unafraid to push silly boundaries.

OrchidInTheSun · 11/06/2019 08:57

This non-binary shit is pervasive dangerous nonsense. It confuses personality traits with gender.

He's a gay man who likes nail varnish. Who gives a shit

Haworthia · 11/06/2019 09:14

I does think this goes anywhere near bringing this “non-binary” bollocks to an end though - it’s perpetuating the myth that a gender non-conforming man isn’t really a man and shouldn’t call themselves a man.

DancingRaven · 11/06/2019 09:41

I read it as challenging it. His insistence that he doesn't really feel like a woman reads as though he thinks it's a nonsense.

Only my perception of course. I'm biased because I like him

Popchyk · 11/06/2019 09:52

"Like, some days I feel like a man, but then other days I feel like a woman"

My frustration is that we never get an explanation of what this statement means.

Feeling like a woman seems to mean liking sparkly glittery shallow shit apparently. And we're never told what feeling like a man actually is.

It seems to enforce the binary; not challenge it.

"Like, some days I feel white, but then other days I feel black". Imagine someone saying this and nobody asking any questions about what feeling white or black actually entails.

I'd love to see an interview with someone who said. "Like, some days I feel like a man, but then other days I feel like a woman and what I mean by that is ......

EweSurname · 11/06/2019 10:19

If gender is a spectrum then we're all non-binary by default
