Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Won’t somebody think of the poor, scared trans women?

A mediocre journalist who “still lives as a man, but has begun the male-to-female gender transition that will eventually result in becoming a woman” currently has his own column in The Telegraph. Can’t imagine how he got given that gig Hmm.

And this week’s bullshit contribution: Why using the women’s toilets is far scarier for trans women than it is for us.

From the article-

However frightened women may be by our presence, we are way, way more petrified by having to be there.

My first thought being, well they don’t have to be there, do they? They’re bloody well choosing to!

This is the bit I really cannot get my head around with this bloke:

“still lives as a man, but has begun the male-to-female gender transition that will eventually result in becoming a woman”

What does that even mean? "Still lives as a man" - is he talking about clothes, hair, interests - none of which (as we all know only too well) are what makes a person a woman.

Does it mean he's started taking hormones, but as (in his words) he's still wearing what h perceives as men's clothes, etc, that means he's still "living as a man"?

I know I'm asking nothing at all new, but this bloke really does show the gender nonsense for what it is.

BretonDinosaur · 07/06/2019 12:10

God the Telegraph are really trying to alienate their readership aren’t they. FFS him talking about the assault of the child in Kirkcaldy as if it’s an acceptable casualty in order for men to act out their fetishes in public is disgusting. I can’t imagine the retired colonels of the Home Counties will be particularly pleased about their grandchildren being put at risk by these men.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 07/06/2019 12:18

This man is a mystery to me. He has lived his whole life as a man marrying and having children. He will never be mistaken for a woman in a million years no matter how much surgery he has or hormones he takes. Despite thinking he has a female personality (????) he seems to have managed perfectly well for six decades as a man. This is a male delusion of what being a woman is.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/06/2019 12:19

‘Our presence’? So he is using women’s toilets even though living as a man?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 07/06/2019 12:24

So about the spider thing. In the UK spiders are harmless and very much smaller than children. It is Ok to reassure children that they won't be harmed and to use the phrase "they are more frightened than you" for perspective.

The majority of TW however, are not smaller than women, and we don't know if they are harmless or not.

So no, I won't be telling my Daughters that it's OK, "the TW is far more scared of you than you are of them".

eurochick · 07/06/2019 12:47

No dude. Given the huge percentage of women that have experienced unwanted sexual contact or assault, we are legitimately far more scared by finding a man in what should be a safe space for us.

OvaHere · 07/06/2019 12:54

Zero empathy. If he really thought like a woman or had a woman's brain or whatever else he's convinced is going on in his head he'd realise how far from the truth this is.

When he talks about scary from his perspective what he means is a fear of being challenged or ridiculed. To his mind this is the worst possible outcome for him in female spaces.

The women in those spaces fear violence, sexual assault or murder when they encounter a lurking male stranger.

It's the old adage played out - men are afraid women will laugh at them, women are afraid men will kill them.

tobee · 07/06/2019 12:57

Frightened of what though? It'll be being laughed at.

We know what women are frightened of .

Sorry X posted with above.

Moneybegreen · 07/06/2019 13:16

Frightened of what?

How many men/people with penises get raped in the ladies toilets/safe spaces?

Penis = mens toilets.

OldCrone · 07/06/2019 13:32

The Telegraph readers don't seem very impressed with this person. (You can read the comments without being a subscriber.)

I suspect The Telegraph is using him as outrage clickbait as it's the readership least likely to empathise with this man's self quest. I almost wonder if he is in on it.

R0wantrees · 07/06/2019 14:38

However frightened women may be by our presence, we are way, way more petrified by having to be there.

This is either fantasy or delusion.
Not a clue or care for women & girls.

DanaPhoenix · 07/06/2019 14:45

Let me play the worlds smallest violin.

Stay the eff out then. One of the most obvious examples of DARVO I've ever seen.

RoyalCorgi · 07/06/2019 14:59

Oh gosh, I've just realised who this guy is. Years and years ago there was a journalist called David Thomas (pretty common name, I know) who wrote a book called "Not Guilty: In Defence of the Modern Man" which was an awful whiny thing (I didn't read it, but I read excerpts at the time) about how hard done by men are and how terrible feminists are. It's the same man. Review here:

isabellerossignol · 07/06/2019 15:13

I wonder will there be calls all over Twitter for the Daily Telegraph to be shut down due to transphobia, the way there are for mumsnet.

No, I doubt it too.

It's come to something when I find I have more in common with the viewpoints of the readers of The Telegraph than other mainstream newspapers...

OvaHere · 07/06/2019 15:18

That explains why this is in the Telegraph then Corgi. He is a right wing type straight from the Caitlyn Jenner mold.

AryaStarkWolf · 07/06/2019 15:26

So he is using women’s toilets even though living as a man?

maybe that's how his transition is beginning, using the womens loos Hmm

oh yeah he sounds like he knows exactly what it's like to be a woman then

SingingLily · 07/06/2019 15:30

For those unable to read the whole article, here is why he is so "petrified" about using women's toilets.

"I’m scared of being spotted and embarrassed in what seems like a space where I won’t be welcome. "^
^
Far, far scarier than women and girls being forced to share the same space with men who claim to identify as women then. About a month ago, he wrote that he dreamed of the moment when he would be able to stand in the queue for the ladies and the woman next to him would look over and think, "Nice handbag".

Coz, yeah, that's exactly what I would be thinking.

littlebillie · 07/06/2019 15:31

The Telegraph is woke now Hmm

dancingcamper · 07/06/2019 15:33

Brilliant - I am more likely to be wondering if the queue will move fast enough for my bladder, what I am doing later on, have I completed all my tasks that day etc etc

It's almost as if he has no idea about women.

JackyHolyoake · 07/06/2019 15:33

However frightened women may be by our presence, we are way, way more petrified by having to be there.

How does this man know this? He doesn't!

As usual, he is building the myth! This is a man who thinks he knows what the lives of girls and women are like. What arrogance!

AryaStarkWolf · 07/06/2019 15:34

About a month ago, he wrote that he dreamed of the moment when he would be able to stand in the queue for the ladies and the woman next to him would look over and think, "Nice handbag".

Yes us women only ever think about handbags and shoes

RoyalCorgi · 07/06/2019 15:39

He is a right wing type straight from the Caitlyn Jenner mold.

Yup. He's that very particular type of trans woman who has benefited all his life from male privilege and decides to transition very late in the day because he gets some weird kick out of it. He doesn't like women and he loathes feminists.

I note, however, that the Telegraph commenters are having none of it. In fact, I'm hard pushed to think of any newspaper where the below-the-line comments on trans issues are other than 90% sceptical.
