discussing the issue of fairness in sport

she very cleverly clarifies the Caster Semenya 46xy issue and also discusses Dr Rachel Mckinnon ( Dr philosophy)

She stands her ground and expresses her points well

I've just posted about this on another thread! Woke up to it on my clock radio.

I was cheering for Sharon! SS put her under a lot of pressure and she was hugely impressive with her responses I thought.

Needmoresleep · 20/05/2019 07:16

Wow!

She was very good indeed.

ImGenderfree · 20/05/2019 08:11

That was fantastic - SS was great but Sharon was awesome. She made her points well and didn’t let her message be misinterpreted. Love the bit ‘Dr of philosophy not a medical doctor’.

FannyCann · 20/05/2019 08:12

Well done Sharon. She was spot on with every fact, stood her ground, didn't let SS slip anything past, pointed out Rachel McKinnon is doctor of philosophy not medical, is not a world class cyclist - masters in older age group and would be at age 70 plus level among men, and really fought to get SS to say what XY means which he dodged.
She was brilliant.

Needmoresleep · 20/05/2019 08:28

There also seemed to be quite subtle theme running through the conversation about what you can get away with when you work for the BBC. I don't know if that was deliberate.

SS asks SD why she did not question the sudden improved performance of an Irish swimmer, and SD's response was that that she did. However during the post race interview all she should do is ask why the performance had improved. This also comes up earlier. Why didn't she complain about the East Germans. She and her father/coach did and apparently as a result her dad was never appointed as a National coach.

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 20/05/2019 08:39

Sharon was amazing - she got all her points over and was articulate.

LangCleg · 20/05/2019 08:43

Gosh. Agree with PPs - Sharron did brilliantly. Forthright, direct, wouldn't be derailed.

And so sad about her father.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/05/2019 08:47

Thanks OP, I'm going to listen to this now.

Genderfreelass · 20/05/2019 08:50

Well done to Sharon for standing her ground and getting a cross lots of good points.

andyoldlabour · 20/05/2019 08:53

Sharon was absolutely brilliant and SS is a disingenuous POS, trying to lead Sharon into making a "transphobic" statement.
SS would not even admit to the biology, would not say 46 XY which is what CS has.
SS brings up the subject of SS, but then doesn't want to discuss it.
SS says "Caster Semenya is one of the greatest athletes of our time" - really???
No SS, CS is not, they are a mediocre athlete with mainly male attributes.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 20/05/2019 09:10

She nailed it.

She's amazing.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/05/2019 09:30

She had all the facts at her fingertips, so well prepared. Good lack of female socialisation too, fought back when chappie constantly tried to speak over her

I bloody love Sharron. The discipline and dedication that she brought to swimming is clearly showing here too

Outofexcuses · 20/05/2019 09:32

That was a really good interview - what an intelligent articulate woman.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 20/05/2019 09:57

What a star 🌟 she was brilliant!

Cuntysnark · 20/05/2019 09:58

That was fab. Well done and thank you Sharron.

SarahTancredi · 20/05/2019 10:15

Wow.

The presenter really had nothing did he. Well researched truthful scientific answers from sharron and he had to resort to lying about what her tweets said and talking over her in order to even be able to attempt to make her look bad.

He failed! He looked an idiot. Typical man talking over a woman when he knows fuck all about the subject.

Nice try.

Sharron you nailed it!

Needmoresleep · 20/05/2019 10:22

A campaign to save Sharron from the red button? She is surely too good to only pop up poolside once ever four years. I hope Sky and others were listening.

AlunWynsKnee · 20/05/2019 10:27

I recorded this last night so I shall watch it later.

Datun · 20/05/2019 10:34

Damn that was good. I'm not familiar with the interviewer. But he was either deliberately provocative, or just couldn't stop himself patronising a woman.

And Sharron Davies was standing up every step of the way. You suddenly see exactly why she is a world-class champion. Gritty, forthright, composed and not bloody having it.

She absolutely owned that interview. And there was a lot more in her arsenal that she didn't have time to use.

Excellent.

Imnobody4 · 20/05/2019 10:43

Sounds a very different interview to the one with Ruth Hunt recently. Looking forward to watching it.

NonnyMouse1337 · 20/05/2019 10:46

Excellent interview. Sharron really held her own and pushed her points across even though the host was trying to trip her up. She was really well prepared. :)

AnyFucker · 20/05/2019 10:49

Marking to listen to later

thenightsky · 20/05/2019 10:55

God that interviewer was dreadful... constantly trying to talk over her Angry

Sharon was brilliant!

Callmejudith · 20/05/2019 11:13

Bloody hell Sharron you are a LEGEND. Absolutely brilliant.

MrsSnippyPants · 20/05/2019 11:25

If anybody wants to watch the interview, rather than just listen to it, it is on the BBC News channel at half past midnight tonight.
