Finally - a sportsman is found guilty of rape

Have been following the case of the cricketer Alex Hepburn, who was charged with raping a woman who had had consensual sex with his friend - when the original jury couldn't reach a verdict in January, I felt sure that this would be another case like the Ulster rugby case so I was pleased to see him found guilty of at least one count of rape (although not the other - not sure how that happens).

Similar to the Ulster case in that it involves a vile exchange of WhatsApp messages between Hepburn and his mates which just shows how much contempt some men have for women. It should be unbelievable how much some of them hate us, yet it seems all too familiar really.

Just checked the weather forecast and it turns out that it's snowing in Hell today!

Joking aside, it's great to hear that there will be actual consequences, but also incredibly depressing how unusual it is for rich/famous men to be held accountable for raping women. And the article makes it clear that this is another case of men bonding with each other by shitting on women. I weep for humanity.

It's the second trial, and he was cleared of a second count of rape against the same woman.

I was glad to see this too. I hope he doesn’t get off on appeal, glad to see a custodial sentence is on the cards too. This guy is a menace.

I don't know any women who cry rape, I'm sure they exist but would be a teeny tiny minority. We know he is guilty because he was tried and found guilty. Do you have another justice system we don't know about?

He boohoo'd because he got caught. Tough. Don't start nothing, won't be nothing. I hope he really REALLY enjoys his time 'away'.

I'm hoping the poor woman and any other women who were victims of this 'game' are feeling some closure and relief today. I reserve my sympathy for them rather than men who think women are objects for their gratification.

And maybe other sportsmen will get the message that this isn't acceptable behaviour.

Did you actually read any of the WhatsApp messages, sprot? The ones which use the word "rape" to describe the way he and his mates treat women? Where they admit that their strategy is to get women "blind" and then back to their house? The competition that they set up to see who could have sex with the most women by the end of the season, which included scoring each woman they had sex with out of ten, and noting whether a condom was used or not? The way they lamented that there were only about 150 women in Worcester, and they'd "pumped" all of them?

But I'm sure that's just what lads are like, eh, sprot?

FFS, is the rape culture in this country so ingrained that even a man who demonstrates in every possible way how much he despises women, how little he thinks of them as human beings, is still possibly the innocent victim of a woman crying "rape" (for reasons completely obscure to me but no doubt blindingly obvious to sprot)?

It's truly, utterly pathetic the lengths some people will go to to not believe in rape.

By saying that "nobody knows" you are condoning rape. You are saying that no one should believe any woman when they say what happened to them. You want to shrug your shoulders and say, well only the two people involved know what went on, so shut up about it being rape.

Do you apply the same insight to other crimes? Or is it another case of rape being different for some reason?

Do you question murder convictions on the same basis?

Ok I will not have my own point of view any longer I will just follow everyone else’s opinions cause obviously if you dare to disagree it becomes a fucking witch hunt of yourself.
So much for empowering women to speak up for themselves,I guess that’s ok as long as they agree with the fucking majority 🗣
