Andre Patterson was sent to prison the day after his 17th birthday for shooting two people. He killed his cellmate, Kimani Muhammad, in December 2016

Patterson, now 29, has another 32 years in prison to serve and has now been sent to women's prison.

It's interesting firstly that in the US someone so young can have the 'key thrown away' at such a young age, and not surprising you might want out of your current cage and into a different one.

FFS. The poor women.

ApplesinmyPocket · 20/02/2020 09:02

I see a very transphobic 'his penis' in this topic. This vulnerable young murderer/rapist does not deserve to have their feelz hurt in such a cruel manner. It is "HER penis." Get on the right side of history, peeps!

Hmm Angry

Lordamighty · 20/02/2020 09:02

I suspect it’s only the lawsuits that are going to stop this irresponsible madness. Money talks.

CharlieParley · 20/02/2020 09:51

Astonishing that the fact of several complaints of sexual assault have been summarily dismissed as transphobia. And although the rape was seemingly bad enough that the victim ended up in the prison infirmary immediately afterwards, it's definitely not a problem.

In the Paris Green case in Scotland the prisoner was moved back to the male estate after and because of pursuing sexual relations with female prisoners incarcerated with Green. It was clearly seen as unacceptable behaviour, regardless of consent.

(Not that the Scottish Prison Service has been consistent about considering interactions of a sexual nature between male and female inmates as undesirable conduct that results in a transfer back to the male estate.)

But still, how the fuck did we get to a place where everything everything we know to do to keep women safe is thrown out the window?

I mean it's not that common to kill your cell mate, it's not even that common to kill another prisoner. So how can they bang on about the safety of this extremely violent male, without sparing a thought for the women? Especially given the much lower safety requirements (and therefore arrangements) in the female estate?

Aesopfable · 20/02/2020 10:00

How long before John Worboys decides he is female?

CharlieParley · 20/02/2020 10:00

According to US Bureau of Justice statistics, suicide is about three times more common than homicide as a cause of death, so they must know what effect this will have on vulnerable women.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 10:31

🚩🚩🚩 📢 THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT WOMEN 📢 🚩🚩🚩

CharlieParley · 20/02/2020 11:52

Oh I know Lordfrontpaw, I know. In a way that I have never known it before am I now aware that we are the Other. Those who must be mindful of men's feelings but whose own feelings must not even be vocalised. Whose needs must not be discussed.

If I wasn't actively engaged fighting this in real life and seeing the change we are making - slow as it may be - I would be wholly despondent.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/02/2020 11:56

Sometimes this murderer potential rapist acts in an 'uneffeminate' way, prison officers said, and were chastised for being sexist.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/02/2020 11:57

Sorry, 'non-effeminate'.

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2020 12:05

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
someone needs to damn well LISTEN

OvaHere · 20/02/2020 12:10

This is so dystopian. A shockingly obvious outcome that anybody could see a mile off. I have to assume at this point they know but they don't care.

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2020 12:21

What next, locking women up with tigers? Who identify as human women obviously, we're not barbarians here.

Deathraystare · 20/02/2020 12:40

“We are glad that Janiah has been moved to a prison where she has a chance to be safe,” Uptown People’s Law Center Executive Director Alan Mills said in a statement. “We look forward to the day when every prisoner can feel safe in all of Illinois’ prisons.”

Well clearly that day won't happen any time soon for incarcerated women in Illinois as a direct result of moving this violent inmate murderer into a woman's prison. You couldn't even make this shit up.

You really couldn't, could you?! Sadly most of the population have no idea that this goes on!

Needmoresleep · 20/02/2020 12:45

Judging from his statement, Uptown People’s Law Center Executive Director, Alan Mills appears to have an agenda. I wonder what is? It does not seem to be safeguarding women.

wellbehavedwomen · 20/02/2020 13:03

This whole business has been such an eye opener, yes. It's shown precisely how worthless women are regarded as being - how disposable. And sadly, how many women try to identify out of that not by claiming to be trans or non-binary, but by being good little intersectional feminists.

Those women subjected to the extreme violence of this foul man, enabled and abetted by the male-ruled system, are being abysmally failed at every level.

soloula · 20/02/2020 13:20

It doesn't happen. Except when it does and they still don't listen.

FFS. The poor woman.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 13:22

Which one 🤨

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/02/2020 13:27

Yes. It's like he's trolling women Angry

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 20/02/2020 13:50

There are now some very insightful comments on the original story in the thread.

Beyond angry on behalf of the woman who has been violated and every still locked in with this rapist/murderer.

Kantastic · 20/02/2020 14:14

Mills said his client has faced similar accusations of sexual harassment since she was moved to Logan last April, though this was the first he was aware of to include a specific allegation of rape. He said the other cases have similarly been unfounded and claimed Monroe has been targeted due to transphobia.

There are no words.

Lordfrontpaw · 20/02/2020 14:15

Crap. Utter hogwash.

OvaHere · 20/02/2020 14:34

What next, locking women up with tigers? Who identify as human women obviously, we're not barbarians here.

To quote someone else (sorry can't remember who)

It's like throwing sharks into the toddler pool.

Just evil.

There must be some way to tackle this via Human Rights/UN treaties. My knowledge of the law isn't good but I believe there are overarching articles and policies which pertain to humane treatment of prisoners and torture whilst incarcerated.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 20/02/2020 15:22

It seems like this prisoner is either incredibly unfortunate or - somehow - untouchable.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/02/2020 23:12

Fucking hell what have I just read ?
I feel sick
