''A woman, for me, is someone who feels that they are a woman.''

Then somebody asks Sally if she feels like a woman. To which Sally replies

''Well I don’t feel strongly that I’m not so yes.''

And then Vulvamort wins the internet with this.

''So, to recap:
You don't feel like the thing.

But you don't feel strongly that you're not the thing that is a thing because it feels like a thing.

So you've concluded you ARE the thing.

Having earlier said: the thing is anyone that feels they ARE the thing.
Which you don't.''

So a woman is defined as someone who doesn't feel strongly that they are not a woman?? Hmm....

HerFemaleness · 27/03/2019 01:18

No, a woman is someone who feels that they're a woman unless they don't feel like they're not a woman even if they don't feel like they're a woman, in that case they are a woman unless they're not a woman. Clear?

Me:Tries to identify with 'the thing' whilst not being quite like 'the thing' '

Me: Gets back up from puddle of confused 'thingness' to work out what the 'thing' is

Me: Disappears down plughole of identity politics.

Meanwhile 50-ish man - 'hey, I'm a woman!'.

Woke people - yay, get you. You're a woman. And you're also a 'transwoman'. So therefore most oppressed woman of all time. We need to centre your voice in everything 'woman'.

Me: Sitting in puddle. WTF?

“No, a woman is someone who feels that they're a woman unless they don't feel like they're not a woman even if they don't feel like they're a woman, in that case they are a woman unless they're not a woman. Clear?“

Clear?? I feel right now like this is a riddle but I don’t feel like this is a riddle, so does that make me a riddle?

Person A: "I'm a zigbot."

Person B: "What's a zigbot?"

Person A: "A zigbot is anyone who feels like a zigbot"

Person B: "I don't understand. Can you explain further?"

Person A: "how dare you deny I exist?"

Scatobrain · 27/03/2019 06:40

Zigbotphobe!

Vulvamort rocks. Perfectly skewered Sally Hines on her own nonsense.

RepealTheGRA · 27/03/2019 07:28

Surely at this point,Sally Hines has peaktransed everybody, including herself, with the unintelligible shite she’s spouting?

Katvonmythicbiowoman · 27/03/2019 07:36

Okay, now I think we all need help when attempting to underhand our favourite Proff of Bantz and Feels. It's like reading a small child's first attempts at writing and having to fill in the gaps, so to speak.

I think she is saying gender roles are the source of all oppression to womanhood. I think? Is that right? It's how the patriarchy treats anyone in this gender role that causes the damage.

So men can opt into the "oppression" by choosing those gender roles. Sally also chooses her oppression by not feeling like a man.

I feel like a man today. I'm going to tie my hair back and pretend it's short. I feel all strong and farty. Watch out world! No oppression for me! #sexismsorted
Who would have thought it'd be so easy?

I see she has no response to Rebecca Reilly-Cooper’s question:

Why would anyone feel like a woman, unless they believed there was some real entity "woman" that exists and can be described independently of their feelings, and that they meet the definition?

Yes, why? They can never answer this one,

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/03/2019 08:00

OMG is it too early for Gin ?

Man: "I Feel Like A Woman"

AKA the Shania Twain Test

LangCleg · 27/03/2019 08:07

And then we have Jesse Singal. He who comes under sustained attack from extremist transactivists despite forever asserting that he's not like all those Evil TERFs:

twitter.com/jessesingal/status/1110642610174070785

Maybe the first time I've seen someone of any importance Hines is a sociologist actually agree to answer this question. This is progress -- the idea that "feeling like a (wo)man" is a sufficient definition of being one at least gives everyone a substantive claim to debate.

One problem with this is that it would exclude people like me from manhood I don't "feel like a man" at all, except when I'm aware I'm acting in accordance with or against some stereotype but again, at least it's a claim we can now discuss/debate.

JFC, Jesse - you've been involving yourself in this subject for years now. You've been using the TERF slur since forever in order to distance yourself from the nasty feminists. And it's news to you that extremist transactivists provide a circular definition of woman? And you've never paid enough attention to what feminists are saying to know that they've been pointing out that nobody "feels like" a man or woman for past fucking god knows how long?

I'll tell you how I know you're a man, Jesse. You're five years behind the curve and you wouldn't be if your sexist self ever listened to women.

Ereshkigal · 27/03/2019 08:10

What a fool he is.

Whatisthisfuckery · 27/03/2019 08:21

So a woman is not actually anyone who feels like they‘re a woman, it’s in fact anyone who doesn’t feel strongly that they’re not. The definition gets more and more woolly by the second.

This is an academic discipline is it? Lol, sally has got to be trolling. And she receives how much in funding grants again?

RepealTheGRA · 27/03/2019 08:38

She’s just dangerous in so many different ways. When she is presented to the general public as an ‘expert’ they instantly know she’s talking bollocks and dismiss her. Leading to ‘experts’ in general being dismissed by the general public, some of whom really need to be listened to.

It’s also victim blaming on steroids, the end result of this is any women who didn’t want to be sexually objectified every time they leave the house would become a transman, ergo those who don’t are happy with the objectification and are ‘asking for it’.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 27/03/2019 08:50

I’m very fucking confused.

I’m having my second heavy period within 3 weeks, apparently that does not mean I’m a woman... the feeling I have is utter fucking rage, is that what makes me a woman??

I need another bucket of coffee.....

ChattyLion · 27/03/2019 09:18

I think this explains why quite a few not very bright UK academics constantly rely on other very verbose US academics’ decades-old theories from the 90s? (Ie Butler)
Because when they spell out their own interpretation in plain English, they’re just speaking man-pleasing offensive crap that any small child could tell them is totally wrong? And then they get a bit embarrassed because it’s plainly obvious what they are saying actually means for women.. and they believe they are feminists Hmm.... so then they (despite not being trans themselves) go all #nodebate

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2019 09:30

they believe they are feminists

I wonder if their definition of 'feminist' follows the same logic (if that's the right word...) as 'woman'?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/03/2019 09:42

The chair on which I am sitting does not feel strongly it is not a woman. Therefore it is a woman.

The only thing my cat feels strongly about is that his new renal food is complete filth. Therefore he is a woman
