'So my first book is being published by Penguin Press. It’s a political discussion (‘polemic’ sounds too angry) how British trans people are discriminated against in every aspect of life. Sick of the media conversation so starting my own. Stay tuned!'

'This is a monumental work and utterly convincing - crystal clear in its understanding of how the world should be' Judith Butler

Ha ha. What the fuck would Judith Butler know about clarity?

EishetChayil · 22/07/2021 19:59

Judith Butler!

Anything endorsed by her goes straight dans la poubelle.

FemaleAndLearning · 22/07/2021 20:14

I just want plain English. Even the reviews are hard to understand. I get the impression this will be more of a jumble of biographies pasted together. If it does clearly set out what rights trans people want that they don't have that would be good for debate.

SmallPug · 22/07/2021 20:29

What will be galling is seeing bookshops fall over themselves to stock this & prominently promote it, when they get so much crap for having one copy of gender critical books. Marginalised my arse. Prioritised more like.

@mirandayardley

Oh, Shon once wrote me a letter.
That’s nice 😳
Datun · 22/07/2021 20:51

Dear lord. This Shon? Whose advice to women is to enjoy their erasure. And whose advice to teens is to be slutty, suck dick, and 'get tits early'?

For the love of God.

That letter is dreadful. The hateful scrawling of a spiteful bully. It doesn't tempt me to buy the book. I can just imagine the poorly written content. My 11 year old can write better than that. Ignore the hate Miranda, although I'm sure you do. Flowers

Ha, I don't think they'll get rich from their publishing 😂
FloralBunting · 22/07/2021 21:21

Shon's twitter is a masterclass in sneering, self absorbed 'shimmering, glowing star in the transworld firmament' style tedium. Shon is fond of repeating a feminist critique of trans ideology and using a lot of words to just contradict at best, rather than answer.
I anticipate Shon's book will be an overlong exercise in using complicated sentences to say 'Ner, ner, you're wrong' without actually explaining why.

Joe Lycett has highly recommended the book on Instagram. The comments are... Interesting.
Lots of suggestions that women need to educate themselves, reasonable GC questioners being shouted down. A few people have recommended the Helen Joyce book 🙂

I've gone off Lycett. I used to find him funny but he did this routine on Live at the Apollo (Joe Lycett tells a great story of him tricking a woman at work.). I know it's probably completely fictitious, but it was around the time he had his TV programme and it was too close to what he was doing on that. I just thought if I was the 'Carol' of his routine, he would have made me miserable. Haven't been able to find him funny since.

*No 1 Bestseller”

Yes, No 1 in Amazon’s “Civil Liberties and Political Activism” section. That means they’ve probably sold around 5 copies.

FloralBunting · 22/07/2021 22:44

A local ex-Labour councillor got to number 4 in the Amazon supernatural phenomena chart with a cheap looking self published bit of hokum about their spirit guide. It's like getting a participation trophy now.

Now down to 94.
PamDenick · 22/07/2021 23:14

yup, bit disappointed with Joe Lycett...

Lordamighty · 23/07/2021 07:37

Joe Lycett was once on Radio2 breakfast show & was asked to nominate a role model, I can’t remember the context, he chose Munroe Bergdorf for their “activism”. I think it’s safe to assume that he is no feminist ally.

PamDenick · 26/07/2021 17:34

Yup - it's strange - all that work with Esme and Patrick on Sewing Bee. I bet they are feminist allies. At least they know that men and women have different bodies when creating garments (however you CHOOSE to dress your bodies will still be different).
ie. if you are making a wonderful gown for a drag queen you know that you have to make the shoulders accommodating for a male physique.
Those Drag Queens may want to women-face but at least they appreciate that HAVEN'T ACTUALLY MAGICALLY TURNED INTO A WOMEN.
You've let me down, Joe. Listen to Esme. I bet your bottom dollar she, old time friend of David Bowie, appreciates that one can be gender non-conforming but not actually impeach on woman's spaces/sports/awards/dignity/changing rooms.

I wouldn’t ever bank on a random sleb who has never spoken on the subject knowing what a woman is. Remember tv type people are generally desperate to be liked.

ValancyRedfern · 26/07/2021 18:35

I agree. Anyone working in fashion or performing arts is highly likely to be thoroughly twaw unfortunately.

KittenKong · 26/07/2021 19:25

And publishing.

Blackandwhitehorse · 26/07/2021 19:56

The comments on the Joe Lycett page - the same old bs and no coherent argument. But if TWAW then why the need for ‘cis’- they are acknowledging a difference? Or more likely it was invented to tell ‘cos’ women to shut up.

Also on something else I was reading a TRA said pansexual was now transphobic - they can’t even agree amongst themselves. So ludicrous.

GreyhoundG1rl · 26/07/2021 19:58

Seventy quid 😂
