Talk on IWD at DDs school celebrating a transgender woman....

OK, I haven't put this in AIBU because I'm not brave enough, but it shoudl maybe be there as the question I want to ask is "AIBU that on IWD, an all girls school should be celebrating women, not transwomen" She can't remember who they were talking about (!), but the school had an assembly for IWD, and the biggest section was to celebrate ''women who have faced many struggles to gain acceptance'' and the only woman mentioned was a transgender woman. FFS, surely there are enough women in the world who could be celebrated for that, rather than a transwoman on today of all days? Any other day of the year, I probably wouldn't have cared less.......

That's disgraceful. YANBU.

Thesuzle · 08/03/2019 18:03

Jesus Christ, I so sick of this transgender crap

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 08/03/2019 18:03

That would really annoy me.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:06

I would put a list together of inspiring women - WOMEN - and supply this to the school. Don’t let them allow men to take over women’s day - it’s about women. Let us have one bloody day, just ONE.

Isn’t there a whole month of lgbT coming up anyway? And if they talk about trans then (which they will) please please god they discuss the early transsexuals (who took the leap and had surgery when it was potentially fatal) and the fact that gender is a load of crap.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 08/03/2019 18:06

Whaaaat! That’s not acceptable at all - can you —give them a good shake— speak to the school

Panicmode1 · 08/03/2019 18:06

Glad it's not just me!!

WaddIelikeapenguin · 08/03/2019 18:07

My strike through don’t work anymore Confused

RepealTheGRA · 08/03/2019 18:13

That’s utterly shit. Trying to work out if it’s more or less shit than my kids school not celebrating it at all Sad

WSPU · 08/03/2019 18:16

No that is shit. Please write to the governors. I am one and know we’d pay attention.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:21

Ok girls - happy international woman’s day.
We are now going to talk about our male overlords because one trans is better that millions of women. Suck it up, buttercups.

And now a talk from Madame Sadie st Whiplash on how prostitution is soooooo empowering for women, with a pole dancing demonstration from Tits McGee of Sleazy Leary’s lapdancing club. Oh and Janie Smiths mum from 1D will tell us something about her little job. She does something or other at CERN... lasers or summit...

Panicmode1 · 08/03/2019 18:22

@WSPU - will they not just think I'm one of 'those' parents? I genuinely wouldn't have had a problem with it on any other day of the year, because I know that being a minority sucks and makes life harder and acceptance more difficult etc etc etc, but I just think that women should be able to have ONE sodding day without it being about a man!!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:25

No - they might think that the SMT at the school has lost its collective marbles.

So in Black History Month - who will speak then? Jim Davidson? The Black and White mistrals? That bonkers white German woman who has decided she is black?

Panicmode1 · 08/03/2019 18:28

Yes, put like that, it is utterly appalling. I am sharpening my pencil (well keyboard Grin )

OP posts:
WSPU · 08/03/2019 18:30

They might. I don’t know what your school is like. But parents don’t tend to write direct to governors much at all so when they do, we pay attention. Also, make sure you make specific points supported with stats about the experiences of actual girls in schools. They need support and encouragement. And make the point, I’d you want to, that what you’re really concerned about is the fact that this has happened on IWD. If they’re about diversity, surely they should include women as well? And be absolutely sure to refer to the Equality Act. Governors are really careful about statutory and legal guidance.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:31

Women and girls deserve a space where they can discuss issues pertinent to - women and girls. Why does every bloody conversation have to revolve around men these days?

Shame the girls didnt get to ask ‘what makes them a woman’ ‘what is a woman?’ ‘Did they have a period?’ ‘Did they have a penis?’ ‘If they had a penis and had woman partners - how does that work then?’...

RepealTheGRA · 08/03/2019 18:32

will they not just think I'm one of 'those' parents?

Who cares? That’s your female socialisation talking! This shit needs to be called out every, single, time. Nothing is going to improve until we all start doing that.

TakenForSlanted · 08/03/2019 18:32

Meanwhile, in the real world, women get to listen to men pontificating about IWD on IWD and, should they be belligerous enough to challenge one of them that totally wasn't me, I really do know better will get feminism mansplained to them on the grounds that "it's hard for men when we don't know whether chivalry is now also harassment" (his actual words).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:36

Christ they might get the Bunce in for a ikkle chat about lipstick or the person in a dress (the clue is on there) - who was on a ‘top 100 women’ or something - who came to DSs school to talk about the trials and tribulations of being a female in business and gender equality.🙄

VickyEadie · 08/03/2019 19:19

OP, I'd be pleased to assist with your letter if you want help (have lots of very relevant experience).

WokerThanWoke · 08/03/2019 19:52

FFS. That’s appalling. And also unbelievably stupid.

Panicmode1 · 08/03/2019 19:54

ARGH. Started rolling my tanks onto the school lawn by drafting something and DD says, actually I think it was yesterday's assembly!! So I shall stand down (but glad I wasn't the only one who would have been outraged if it HAD been today)

OP posts:
LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 20:05

Still if it was about women, not trans women...

FleetsumNJetsum · 08/03/2019 20:08

Tell the school that International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31, but IWD is for women.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 20:27

And on ITDV there will be woman who say they are women because they are women presenting I assume?

plattercake · 09/03/2019 08:00

Sadly would not be a surprise.

I did wonder if your DD is just saying that it was the previous day because she is doing that thing where they don't want parents to make a fuss. If it was on IWD though, it needs a big fuss though. Sorry panicmodeDD, you will thank your mum one day!
