Talk on IWD at DDs school celebrating a transgender woman....

OK, I haven't put this in AIBU because I'm not brave enough, but it shoudl maybe be there as the question I want to ask is "AIBU that on IWD, an all girls school should be celebrating women, not transwomen" She can't remember who they were talking about (!), but the school had an assembly for IWD, and the biggest section was to celebrate ''women who have faced many struggles to gain acceptance'' and the only woman mentioned was a transgender woman. FFS, surely there are enough women in the world who could be celebrated for that, rather than a transwoman on today of all days? Any other day of the year, I probably wouldn't have cared less.......

Tell the school that International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31, but IWD is for women.

Agree good advice and a great point Fleetsum. If they want to talk about transwomen this much- have a day for it,
Like with IWD they will talk about women’s issues, let’s use IDTV to talk about the issues for trans people:

the very strong popular narrative of transitioned people as living ‘happily ever after’ and the reality of what we know about that- also about girls faring particularly badly on blockers and hormones, why is it there has been a huge increase in girls wanting to medically and surgically transition, talk about the clash of rights, the experiences of detranisitioned people etc.

Just to add that I saw various tweets around though yesterday saying Happy International Women’s and Cis Women’s Day. Hmm

Happy International Women’s and Cis Women’s Day.

Shock bonkers. What on earth are they on about?? How offensive to the billions of adult human females for whom woman actually means something.

Well I suggest if you don’t want to elevate your bloody pressure avoids amnesty international US twitter account. Even on IWD it’s all about the boyz. They are getting some flack though which is funny (and sad).

Amnesty in the UK have that obnoxious, boundary- erasing campaign around this, ‘I am who I say I am’

Example T-shirt in the pic here:

It's so sad what has happened to Amnesty. Like many of us on here I campaigned, wrote letters and supported them. Now I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Me too dragoning. That recent report that revealed a toxic and bullying culture within the organisation just put the tin hat on it. Tragic. Such important work but the organisation itself now seems entirely corrupt.
